Tariffs war halts US beef exports to China as Australia fills the gap

Due to tariff war initiated by new US President, China has halted beef import from USA of worth 2.5 billion USD. Australia will take advantage of this ban and will supply grain-fed beef to China. The beef exporter of USA licences are not renowned by China that's resulting enormous loss to US beef industry. This is just one sector where USA is facing loss due to tariff imposed on China, with time we will see more areas that are affected because of high tariff imposed by USA. The new US government has to realise that US also has exports to China that will be affected due to this high tariff rate.

I see some points in your statement, since U.S is China's biggest customer and with the current increase in tarrif on China by the U.S president, they'll want to take their trade else where are sell more of their products to other top countries across Europe and some third world countries in Africa, they can't just stay without selling their products cause it would affect their economy so bad or force the to agree to Trumps terns on the long run.

Now the U.S would be hit by that approach since most of what they bring into the country comes from China, I don't know if Trump would use this approach am about to mention but I think he could increase the tarrif of nations that would trade with China just so the U.S won't be the only ones feeling the hit on this trade war, Trump is a very stubborn man I bet he'll take drastic measures on China regardless of the outcome.
They "will" sell their products, even if not to USA they will sell to some other nation, but they would have to make some discounts on it. You can't sell something for the same price to Africa that you were selling to USA. What you may sell for 100 bucks and easily at USA, may have to take back to 10-15 bucks at most in Africa, and probably 50-60 in Europe as well.

USA is a powerhouse in economy and while Trump is trying hard to ruin USA, even he himself all alone can't do that, USA will keep being a strong economy and a rich nation because of all the resources they have. China will not be ruined neither, they will just sell to some others, and maybe make some less amounts but they will keep on making some money there is no way they will bankrupt or go into crisis.

I have said this in another thread. Trump thinks the world cannot live without the US, and they must do business with the USA. But think dickhead cannot understand that due to high tariffs, the countries will find alternatives and they will do business with countries like China. China is the most affordable country to do business with. If the USA can live without importing my Garments, I can live without importing their Teslas. My country mostly import Iron and Steel from the US and some machinery for our Garments business. I am pretty sure we have alternatives. The chief advisor already visited China a few days ago and china promised to invest in my country.

Trump is trying to play a smart one trying to give relevance to the country its a good ambition, just that the tariff increase is just just to much and the worst thing is that US don't even produce anything and just because of the conflict with China it will now affect the citizens because they will not have access to some products so what is now the essence of some things. And there plenty countries that can actually cut the united state out because its not as if they have enough product creation. China have the labor they also have the resources that is why they are affordable to do business but not the us wants to push them to the economy war and at the end of the day it will only affect the United state more. And if China is coming to invest in your country then its actually a plus but if  every country should work on there production so there is always need for it but the politicians are so selfish that all they want is for them to be the ones importing instead of bringing the game into there country especially Africa we can not even operate on our own the least that can happen and they will also be able to create job opportunities for people.

This was an excellent example of what I explained in the OP. Thanks for sharing it.

In this particular case the US beef production has to shrink because they will not be able to find a replacement to buy their product. They could use middlemen to "smuggle" their beef into China but it would increase the cost and affects the competitiveness of it.

Meanwhile the beef production in Australia has the potential to grow as they can increase their production capacity since they will have a new customer that is willing to pay for it.

Some argue that he did it like this on purpose to actually create a lot of global economic chaos because he thinks that in that chaos US can benefit. So far that strategy has backfired so hard though and with US being more isolated every day, any possible benefit would be negated easily!

I think in all this I see bullying in action and I don't think this Trump decision will be taking anybody anywhere, though he is been seen as the world president which means any decisions he took may likely affect other part of the world especially the Chinese who produce more the product being consumed in the US, with the look of things, I strongly believe that the same actions will have more effect on the US citizens the more, the tariff increase is very unthinkable, I think there's no one in his right senses will be considering such figure to be an increase, if Trump thinks this is the only path in repaying his country's debt, I don't think that will be achievable in a short while because even though this his decision works if he leaves office tomorrow, the other president may have a different understanding on how to manage this situation instead of indirectly targeting those he feels benefit through selling their goods to USA, I think Trump is also exposing something things, is he trying to say that china produce things morthan the US , may be I was over thinking in that aspect but I feel so too.

Since Trump assume office as the president of the United States some of his decision has been uncalled for just because he want to show to the rest of the world how powerful his decision could be on them but unfortunately there are also some options for this targeted nations which may affect the US if these countries decide to take the other way.

Also New Zealand  they can take advantage on this situation and US would lost a lot of money due to the decision of China to halt their importation on US beef products. For sure that industry might get affected in that situation if they cannot find alternative markets that will buy their products. China is somehow a big market so there's huge gap that need to fill in.

But look at what Indonesia plan to do, they want to increase their importation to US and lower down their orders to other South East Asian nation to avoid tariff https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/indonesia-says-increase-us-imports-would-divert-orders-elsewhere-2025-04-18/ This is crazy since its like they are tolerating US to bully other nation.

It seems that the only country that fights back is China who continues to fight back Xi Jin Ping that we will continue to negotiate but we will not succumb to the US, I may need to read more but this method is used by Trump to benefit and cover US debt.

But we can observe that the more the US is arbitrary towards other countries, the faster they will be replaced as the world's superpower, some movements are already seen to replace the dominance of the US Dollar, and it will get stronger if Trump continues to do this kind of thing.

The interesting question is, will the US be replaced quickly? Cheesy

Yesterday, or the day before, I saw an image somewhere that China was selling a T-shirt, and there was a message on the T-shirt. The message was Boycott China, and China sold thousands of these T-shirts in the USA. I don't know if it was just a joke or if it was real. But I had to laugh seeing that picture and the post about it.

The USA produces 20% of the world's beef, followed by Brazil and the European Union. Now, the countries facing high tariffs have to do some research and start finding alternatives. The example posted by MusaPK is a good one.

The USA is proud of its defense system, and it can threaten any country. According to CNBC; Amid U.S. President Donald Trump’s escalating tariffs on China, Beijing earlier this month imposed export restrictions on seven rare earth elements used in defense, energy, and automotive technologies.

Trump is acting like a big fat bully who doesn't want to rule only his country, but simultaneously rule other countries of the world by dictating things to them and trying to compel them to do things his way.

Of course there'll be countries that would be willing to succumb to that, but there would definitely be those who would fight back, and that is were things will go wrong for Trump, because the countries that would fight back would embolden other nations, and that could spiral into a host of countries all seeking alternatives which will reduce the domination the U.S. has on the world.

This is just one sector where USA is facing loss due to tariff imposed on China, with time we will see more areas that are affected because of high tariff imposed by USA. The new US government has to realise that US also has exports to China that will be affected due to this high tariff rate.

US exports to China also account for a significant amount, reaching 180-200 billion per year. Of which, key items such as agricultural products account for about 30 billion USD, machinery and equipment about 40 billion USD, energy about 25 billion USD and technology about 20 billion USD...

China's beef import ban was not just a coincidence but a calculated and extremely effective move as farmers are considered Trump's largest constituency. The agricultural industry being hit hard by tariffs would be a major blow to Trump and the Republicans. In addition, China has also completely stopped importing LGN from the US. Soon, American businesses and consumers will also feel the consequences and losses caused by their president's tariff policies.

As Trump and China refuse to blink on tariffs, the biggest consumer splurge in history is over
The most powerful economy in human history — but can you buy a toaster?

The most daunting military ever — but why are our children's toys so expensive?
Even after he did a last minute U-turn, that's the future facing Americans in the new world of Donald Trump.
As they watched their 401K superannuation funds diminish by the day, the reality of a re-elected Trump was beginning to dawn on Americans.
What Trump was doing, in the words of Australia's former Ambassador to China, Geoff Raby, could be "one of history's greatest acts of self-harm

Americans are currently going through a difficult time, because the prices of all goods are rising very quickly. And Chinese goods have gone beyond the demand of American members, as a result of which this tariff war has created a distance between the two countries and the demand for Chinese goods among the people in the past is now out of reach. As a result of the Americans, Americans will no longer be able to buy any toys or toasters at a low price.
Although Americans are economically independent, Donald Trump has threatened his country with this tariff trade war. When Americans produce a product, their labor costs are the highest, so they have to sell it at a price ten times higher than the production cost, which is a failed attempt to meet the needs of the people.

A new Boeing jet meant for a Chinese airline reportedly returned to the U.S. because of the ongoing trade war

image link

This Boeing plane was supposed to be delivered to a Chinese airline, but due to the conflict between the two countries caused by this tariff trade war, this Boeing plane was returned to the United States. In this, we can see that the United States is suffering the most in various ways because various major trade agreements are being canceled, because Chinese companies have established more trade agreements with other countries even though the products they supply are not under trade agreements with the United States. Because Chinese products are ready to be accepted by all countries cheaply, the Chinese government knows very well that if only the trade agreement with the United States is closed, they will naturally suffer losses, but their agreements with other countries will remain in place.
But the United States is going to be economically devastated due to this tariff trade war between the United States and China, Donald Trump is completely to blame for this. He never disclosed all these agreements and comments before the election. He gave false assurances to the people before the election and his true face has been revealed at the present time.

I see this situation as a clear example of how politics and economics are linked together. The large volume of US export to china consisting of agriculture, machinery, energy and technology shows how vital their relationhip is.

China's beef import ban wasn't just an economic decision, it was a strategic move where they targeted American farmers, one of key supporters of Trump. It sends a strong message about its ability to retaliate effectively in the trade war. The ban also makes the U.S. to rethink its approach as the ripple effects of such a decision can extend to businesses and consumers.

The halt on LNG imports also adds to the tension because it distrupts energy trade and putting pressure on businesses. In the long run, I think those measures will dirculate down to consumers who will feel the affect through higher prices and limited options. It’s a clear reminder of how trade wars can also affect everyday people and industries not just the government.

We live in interconnected world where every single country depends on other countries to meet it's demands like oil, food, pharma, technology and so on. Some countries are oil rich while others have abundant supply of food items and some are surplus in technology exports. All these countries export items they are abundant in to meet the demand of items they don't have in abundance due to different reasons.

New US government is of the view that China and other countries are dependent on USA for economic development or in other words it's the USA that's giving business to the whole world.

Due to this tariff war, we are now getting info about how much business China is giving to USA. There is another area where USA is getting loss due to high tariff imposed on China, China has also cut down it's oil supply from USA to 90% and moved towards Canada to meet it's oil needs. China crude oil import from Canada in March has gone up to 7.3 million barrels while imports of US oil has gone down to 3 million barrels a month from a peak of 29 million in June 2024.

Lets see where all this will end, but how right is it for a president to increase tarrif in such way that it has to have a negative impact on the perceived citizens that he's leading or protecting, even though Trump had in mind of increasing tariff, I think it would've been followed gradually, I think this measure would've not have this negative impact on the citizen so quick, I forsee more protest as time goes by, it is funny to see a president that do things they way Trump does his own things, how smart can this be, he has been a bully even to his own country, this doesnt tell well about him, the economic war is very unnecessary at this time, this would've been done without getting global attention thats if he had think twice before acting, if Americans can no longer afford ordinary things so what positive impact has this tarrif of his got to do with them, in the coming days, he may reach agreement with China but at the end an ordinary citizens of US will suffer it, Soon China may begin to go for more alternatives and we know what that means already.

There are always those who surrender to bullies.

But in my opinion it is more likely that the Indonesian government's understanding is that accepting the unreasonable US demands is the "cheaper" way of pulling themselves away from the actual war that is between US and China. Let them fight it out and then get close to the victor!

Another example of a "gap" that another country can fill. Correct me if I'm wrong but in this case there is at least one alternative to Boeing called Airbus (in Europe) that can fill that gap... I think Russia has produced commercial airplanes as well in which case it can too be an alternative.

China is indeed the cheapest place to buy products because of the low cost of production. Certainly at this time the world urgently needs an alternative to the US. But I have some reservations about the world replacing the US with China. Who knows if a president like Trump can become the leader of China. The world might have to face the same problems caused by these global bullies.

Fortunately, you don't have to tolerate these bullies for a lifetime. They have a certain period. I guess you have to tolerate Stupid Trump for four more years and I hope the next president will solve the problem. So, the alternatives we talk about are not permanent, of course these are temporary solutions. Even if China got a leader like Trump, they won't be in power for long.

The majority number of people in certain countries are not stupid. They won't elect the same bullshit over and over. I think he will be forced to cancel the tariff within the next few months if he is a genius.
Donald Trump lacks leadership skills,he speaks highly of the US as if other countries are less important but today things are now turning around as countries are now pushing the US out of the radar.
China been the major supplier of wide range critical minerals and magnets to the US have halt imports. This materials of magnets are vital for assembling of cars, drones, robots and missiles which will eventually affect military contractors and halt manufacturing of military weapons for the US as China trade war poses threat to US arms firms’ rare earths supply.China is now in an agreement with Canada,to begin importation of Canadian crude oil as an alternative to bypass the US trade war. Mexico and China now strengthen ties to boost production of her raw materials  as large quantities of raw materials and components are been shipped from China to Mexico for production, more Chinese companies are now relocating their business facilities from China to Mexico. I believe more countries will likely abandon the US for China for business, countries are now entering bilateral trade agreements with each other to improve trades amongst themselves . By the time the US will realize all of this and come to her sense, she must have lost a lot of her business allies nations to China and Russia and which will end up resulting to a major catastrophic to her economy that might cause her economy to recession.

Tariffs war halts US beef exports to China as Australia fills the gap

The new US government has to realise that US also has exports to China that will be affected due to this high tariff rate.
To be fair, beef is not something that will decide the future of a nation lol. The worst case, they could just sell it to the nation for cheaper price, if they can do that, which they should be able to, then they won't have nay troubles, or they could just keep working with Australia. Believe me, drop the beef prices by 10-20% and you are going to have a lot more people eating beef, and you won't have enough beef to sell, so this isn't the real problem.

Manufacturing is the real problem and because of that we are not going to see USA get over that problem easily, products that needs to be manufactured cheaper there, and then sold at USA is the real problem, and as long as that stays as a problem, USA will not do well.

The agreement that the US had with China for a long time in the past, but now their arguments are being nullified due to the tariff trade war. Most of the American countries are suffering the most economically. Only Russia can fill the gap due to the return of Boeing aircraft, because the first target is likely to be Russia.
Because various countries are filling this gap, Australia's meat demand is being met, (if Russia can fill the shortage of planes, buses, and other vehicles) then China's trade deficit is not being met by the US. The US shortage remains and the US's most valuable commodity is increasing, the US has suffered the most economically and will face more shortages in the future.

Bitcoin miners in U.S. fear wipeout as 36% tariffs threaten to ‘destroy’ thriving industry
When China cracked down on the crypto industry in 2021, many Bitcoin miners set up shop in the U.S. instead. The move paid off as a mix of cheap energy and deep capital markets saw the U.S. become the world’s leader in Bitcoin production and, following the election of pro-crypto President Donald Trump, American miners’ future seemed brighter than ever. In April, all of that changed.
Most Bitcoin mining machines in the U.S. are produced in Southeast Asia in countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Under Trump’s tariff policy—which was set to go into effect on April 9 but has since been put on a 90-day pause—these countries face tariffs ranging from 24% to 36%. In the meantime, a general 10% rate remains in place.

Source link: https://fortune.com/crypto/2025/04/17/bitcoin-mining-tariffs/

Bitcoin miners are going to face more problems now, as they will face higher taxes next month. They are facing the most problems in this current situation, and more unique businesses are suffering the most.
