The staking mechanism should've increased demand for ETH in the long run. After all, it incentivizes "hodlers" to never leave coins out of their wallet. The more ETH staked, the greater the profits. ETH failed because other chains had greater transaction capacity and a stronger marketing/PR strategy (like Solana, for instance). People these days are looking for convenience (not true decentralization), so they will choose the coin that's faster and cheaper for them.
Solana, despite being unreliable, is fast and cheap enough for "De-Fi" and ordinary transactions. Recently, ETH devs rolled out a network upgrade (Pectra) meant to address some scaling issues on the main chain. The hype made a comeback, but it could quickly fade away if ETH turns sluggish and expensive to use again. Like I've said before, ETH is NOT dead but rather "dormant". I hope that with subsequent network upgrades, ETH will retain its position as the second-largest crypto by market cap. Otherwise, Solana will "eat its cake". Let's see what happens within 5-10 years from now.
That PR is the thing that made others do a lot better, and because of that I am not 100% sure if we are going to make that much money neither, because SOL ends up could make some good return. If we could gather some good return then we could probably start with a lot better, so it is going to get a good return eventually, so we can't get a huge price because ETH is not getting the full staking at the moment and should be a lot better return with time, because if they do, then they are going to mean something.
So with this new update, if whales all jump into making money with this staking then the price will get a ton of better results. Right now, we should not make a ton of news just yet, not down, not up, just wait for it to get better.
