BTC Dominance Drops - Is Altcoin Season Near

Pull isn't big enough. You need to remember even with big drawdown in 2024 Q3-Q4 if i remember correctly, bitcoin's dominance can still go up out of the blue.
I identified that the problem lies in the fact that institutional investors, the main player that moved bitcoin price aren't rotating their money to puny alts.
Instead they stayed bitcoin maxi. We are in different era, it will be awhile until we see altcoin from my prediction.

Exactly about institutional, we should also all note that 'crypto' is still not 'mainstream' with the true and only exception of Bitcoin.

We don't see any company doing ETFs other than for Bitcoin, I know there's like a few doing ETH but nobody wants that. We don't see small countries buying up ANYTHING other than BTC.

So, believe me, when BTC dominance drops, its only because other alts or stablecoins have increased in supply while BTC price drops. That doesn't mean ETH or whatever shitcoin is going to have a season.

I have been observing the market and I see that BTC dominance is breaking.

Despite the price of BTC is dropping, and I can see that altcoins like solana is holding quite well and just dropped a little.

Could this be the start of altcoin season? Maybe BTC dominance over the market will continue to drop.

Bitcoin dominate may not always be on the rise, we can experience a little decline form it, which does not means at all, because we cant compare that of bitcoin to the altcoins, forget about seeing that some of these altcoins are on the pace to rising, there is nothing like altcoin season being in view for now, all we have is just the bitcoin bullrun and we should be getting ready for all time high before this year goes to an end.

So, believe me, when BTC dominance drops, its only because other alts or stablecoins have increased in supply while BTC price drops. That doesn't mean ETH or whatever shitcoin is going to have a season.

No doubt that there is a lot of money being given for them to create false interest in other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, but it isn't working out as well as they hoped. What users often fail to realize, that the dominance % is actually under-reported because there are many shitcoins with low liquidity but high market caps. Furthermore, stablecoins should not be counted and neither should things that are not cryptocurrency such as Ripple. The real dominance is probably near 90% despite all this printing and money chasing.

The only correct answer is that nobody knows. As so many people continue to make different predictions, someone will be right but don't be fooled that they knew something. It was just pure chance.

Of course Bitcoin can never be dominated by Altcoins, infact no Alts comes close to it so I wonder why anyone would think it would loose it's dominance in the crypto market the Altcoins season doesn't mean that Bitcoin has lost it's position to those other ones it's just a period after the increase in the price of Bitcoin that gives way for other coins to increase too but then no matter how they increase none still comes close to market value of Bitcoin.

 The OP saying that Bitcoin would lose it's value cause of the Altcoins season is very wrong, infact other coin depends on Bitcoin's success to grow, moreover since March when he made that post the price of Bitcoin has increased more than it's decreased.

I think we shouldn't use a concept about bitcoin dominance at all, because apart from bitcoin (and maybe ETH and xrp) everything else is just lottery tickets)

Lately we could see that bitcoin growth no longer causes altcoin growth, because in fact 99% of altcoins have almost no liquidity, they are just nothing, which are used to drive the crowd into a position and then discount them on the highs, selling them to fools.

Bitcoin is the only coin for which there is a real and stable demand, and everything else lives just so that someone can increase their capital at the expense of dump-dump schemes.

I also don't know when DOM will drop and when altcoin season will come but I want to tell you this. In previous cycles, altcoin season always comes in the most unexpected way, when most people no longer believe it will come and most give up, it comes. Many people don't believe there will be an altcoin season, sometimes that's a good thing and a good sign.

Again, be confident in your choice, don't listen to anyone because we are all the same, no crystal ball can predict the future.

People who ask this question and worse repeatedly ask this question many times, actually did not prepare well before starting. Like they did not research about the market, which cryptocurrency is a leader of this market, its market cycle history, and very importantly market psychological cycle. So after entering the market, they nearly instantly become confusing about chance of profit and risk of loss. It's time for them to start asking questions, and repeat those questions when market is bearish and their portfolios are in temporary loss or big loss.

I also don't know when DOM will drop and when altcoin season will come but I want to tell you this. In previous cycles, altcoin season always comes in the most unexpected way, when most people no longer believe it will come and most give up, it comes. Many people don't believe there will be an altcoin season, sometimes that's a good thing and a good sign.

Market DOMs are biased considerably by many new altcoins which are launched very easily with smart contracts. The abundant altcoins and bigger cryptocurrency market cap mean it's harder to pump all altcoins like in previous market cycles that had smaller market caps.

Bitcoin dom can drop, altcoin dom might increase but it does not mean all altcoins will have their parties.

I do not care much about altcoin season nor the dominance drop of BTC. Cryptocurrency market is a free market, anyone can trade anything they want so instead of concerning myself on which one is the dominant, I would rather look at the fundamentals of each cryptocurrency I am interested in.  Besides, in the history of cryptocurrency, the Altcoin season follows after the peak of Bitcoin during its consolidation, and since Bitcoin is now on an uptrend, I do not think we can see an altcoin season anytime soon.  Possibly after the new ATH since that is the normal path of the cryptocurrency market. 

Although Bitcoin and altcoin are in a Bullish trend, Bitcoin outperforming altcoin greatly until it reaches its peak or breaks its ATH.  Then Bitcoin entered consolidation and altcoin market started to outperform the Bitcoin market thus entering the alt season. So with the current Bitcoin market performance, Altcoin season may wait for some months.

I'm not too fond of altcoins, my "portfolio" if you can even call it such, is consisted 98% of Bitcoin, some BNB and some other random altcoins (except Litecoin) I've acquired through Binance launchpools and promotions. I made the mistake of not selling them when I got them and I'm now stuck with them waiting for that altcoin season, which at this point seems pointless.

Bitcoin is currently bullish and that's all it matters now. I personally not going to bother with the altcoin season nor altcoins. Bitcoin is the way to go, a minor drop in Bitcoin's dominance doesn't make much difference.

Since the beginning of May, bitcoin dominance has only decreased by 2%-3% (from 65% to 63%) but many altcoins have increased significantly, especially mid and low cap coins have increased x2, x3 or more, while larger cap altcoins have increased less.

What if Bitcoin's dominance drops significantly? What if Bitcoin's dominance drops to 50% or 40% like in previous cycles? I bet hundreds of altcoins could easily go up 10-20x. 

I know this is a scenario that bitcoin maximalists don't like but it is entirely possible as BTC dominance decline is not the first and the market is not just bitcoin.

That's the dilemma of buying some alts, even if you have bought that from binance launchpad. Most of them decline its value after the early days of their trading. Because if the project has no solid reason to exist and will just capitalize on talk, they would surely go down in the history of crypto.

Just look at coindesk , and you will understand that up until now, the top cryptocurrencies are the same. I would say, if you really want to invest in alts other than btc, maybe consider these top alts in the market as they have very good chance that you can earn something and not losing them overnight. Most of these alts follow the btc's market trend. And I would say, they are considered to be the solid projects in the crypto market. However, it is still your prerogative what particular projects you would want to buy and hold. With what I experienced in most alts, it is better to stick with the solid ones.

Lesson learned I guess. Usually I got rid of them immediately or shortly after they were launched, but I kept a few due to procrastination or because I thought I had nothing important to lose. Now, I'm stuck with a bunch of altcoins that are worth peanuts, the biggest hit was from the Mantra (OM) coin. Lost over $100 within 24 hours, with no chance of recovery.

The truth is that such altcoins aren't to be trusted nor to be held long-term, Bitcoin is the only coin that I've successfully held for such a long time. Altcoins such as those that derive from launchpool are a hit or miss, a gamble and nothing more.

BTC.D has been climbing from march non stop without any proper correction, current correction is pretty normal but I wouldn't easily call it altcoin season. The dominance can climb back up anytime especially when it reached 62% it can have a reversal.

Maybe this happen to keep altcoin from completely dying if bitcoin just keep climbing all the way until 68% and more.

I agree with you, BTC.D will probably rise again and even reach 70% but it won't last forever. When the right time comes, it will enter a major correction phase like what happened in the previous 2 cycles and that is when the altcoin season officially begins.


As I remember, in 2017-2018, BTC dominance peaked at 96% then dropped below 40%, a lot of altcoins increased x100 or x1000 in price during that cycle. 2020-2021: Bitcoin dominance drops from 73% to 39% and the biggest altcoin season has also happened.

Likewise, everything is repeating but with a certain delay due to the impact of macro and makes many people doubt.
