That is huge money for real, It is sad for him to end up like this after all the success he made in gambling, but the rules are the rules, he should've kept it for himself or maybe tried at least to do it secretly. I didn't know gambling was illegal in Japan that is new to me, I know that gambling is generally forbidden in a lot of countries, I think people should be aware of the law in their country or even if they gamble from abother country they should always review the rules of the country they reside in before doing anything illegal there.

In my country, gambling is illegal too. Last time I heard that our authorities have started to arrest people due to gambling on 1xbet too it is pretty serious here so people should be very careful.
I gamble too sometimes even though I know that it is forbidden here but I try to do it discreetly in order to not fall into problems like that.

If gambling was illegal in your country, would you still gamble?
Yes, because to forbid gambling is a dumb idea by regulators who want to treat society like mentally challenged individuals who can't take responsability for their own acts and decisons. After all, it's a measure taken by authoritarian countries that side by side with another similar regulations and prohibitions want to have a large impact over citizens' lifestyle, decreasing maximum as possible their autonomy.

Instead of banning gambling, governments should be encouraging educating people, so they would know how gambling works, what the risks involved are, what the chances on long term are, how to play it responsibly and when to quit.

If authorities did it the right way, we wouldn't be seeing so many problem gamblers around.

If you know that your country or your current jurisdiction is quite tight with gambling activities, then, it is your responsibility to check such restrictions. Because you won't get your winnings if in case you are lucky. The repercussions will be on you and not the site itself. So much better to take care of your funds before you get tempted with your desires.

With the case of the Japanese man, the amount of money involved was quite huge. So I don't think he didn't know the gambling protocols in his country. He maybe thought that he can get around it but to no luck, he got arrested. I would say, he's been doing this for quite some time already. It was just this time, his luck ran out.

If gambling was illegal in your country, would you still gamble?
Well that is a huge money he gambled, $194m is quite a huge amount to bet at once knowing that his country forbids gambling. If I where from a country where gambling is prohibited I will stay out of online gambling maybe I could participate in some physical street gambling. Or i may tell a friend outside the country to open an online account with his information (kyc) after which the details will be sent or forwarded to me and I will use VPN to login in my country to place my bet. But if all this strategy doesn't work then I have no option than to quit.
If you have that much money and you are so interested in gambling, wouldn't it be better to simply travel out of the country and find a base in another country where gambling is not banned?

In my other comment, I did said that even in my country where gambling is not banned, an individual who uses $194 million dollars to place a bet all at once will be arrested and invested, most especially for money laundering, it's absolutely crazy how much people spend on gamble, but if I must say what I think, I would say that this arrest wasn't mainly because the dude was gambling from a country where gambling is banned, I think the dude was using betting as a means to launder that money and this is the sole reason for his arrest, this is personal conclusion on this matter, no body in their right sense who spend $194 million dollars on a bet in one go.

It really depends on how the government enforces the law.

If the consequences are serious like actually getting jailed when caught, then I’d rather not gamble at all.

But since that’s rarely the case, I’d probably just find a way to gamble through decentralized platforms. Less protection, but if it satisfies the urge, I’d still go for it.

As for that news, who bets almost $200 million just for fun? I feel like there’s something more serious going on behind the scenes. Could be money laundering, who knows? No signs yet, but once an investigation starts, they might find something.

I just make sure to only bet what I can afford to lose especially if the regulations could become a problem.

If we choose to gamble knowing it’s illegal, the best move is to find a platform that still accepts our bets. But here’s the risky part: if they scam us, we can’t go after them.

That’s why betting huge amounts is like financial suicide, basically burning money. Even with well-known platforms like Polymarket, which handles millions and has a solid reputation, I still wouldn’t fully trust it. You just never know.

He is Japanese, and Japanese authorities are skilled at tracking criminals and illegal platforms, I wonder what made him believe that he was wise enough to avoid getting caught. Now he is an example of the government authorities who defied their laws, even if you are good at hiding your gambling activities, they will catch you.

It's good that gambling is legal in our country, but if it were illegal, I would not think of doing that. You will just waste your winnings, which the authorities are going to confiscate, and of course, the heavy fines or imprisonment that will ruin your life.

You make prohibited thing, you get profit and don`t pay taxes, you are well-known in the internet. How could something go wrong? *sarcasm*
If gambling is my main income and i get such sums - i can change country easily and don`t have problems with any restrictions. It is really silly to risk every day, when you have all opportunities to avoid it.

PS. In my country i have to pay taxes for all profit, including gambling. But casino says that they pay it for me. So i think i don`t have problems with it but i can say, that i woldn`t stop with any restrictions.

Staying a law abiding citizen is way better than having to always look over your shoulders because you think the government is going to come arrest you.
Anything that has been proscribed as illegal in my country, I stay away from it, for my safety and that of those who care about me.

The Japanese man knew that one day, he would be caught and that day came. He is prepared to face the law as well the punishment attached to it.
If gambling is illegal in your country, don't gamble. Find other hobbies that give the same thrill as gambling. And there are very many of them.

At first, I was like what is the illegal part here? Yes he gambled huge amounts of money but there were no signs of money laundering. I was confused until it was mentioned that gambling is illegal in Japan. Gambling is generally banned in Japan with a few exceptions. Chomabayashi also acted as a casino affiliate using his social media accounts to refer users to the casino. He said that he did all of this since he thought that he would never get caught. But he was publicly working for an online casino so I do not know why he would think that he would not be caught by the authorities. Money will talk behind the ban.  Grin
I'm sure there are many cases in some countries where it is forbidden not to gamble and some people still gamble in violation of the country's rules and end up being arrested. But in the end just pay a fine of a certain amount and he is free from prison and back to betting again.

I think countries that ban gambling will just hunt down the big gamblers and ask for fines. But as a small gambler will never worry to keep gambling even if the country considers it an illegal activity.

Now, because of this, I searched right away and for real, gambling/online gambling is illegal in Japan. But still, their citizens use online casinos based in other countries. The risk in gambling is too much, and to add more, it’s illegal in their country. If I were them, I would think twice before doing online gambling, even after using VPN. I didn’t know Japan, or maybe I forgot, that they have no casino. They only have Pachinko Parlor

If gambling was illegal in your country, would you still gamble?
Why the government should be the one to let me know if I should gamble or not? Luckily for me gambling is legal in my country. In countries that ban gambling, this is what will be the result. There will be some people that will do it illegally. Even in the Japan, there will be illegal gambling there.
You are lucky in your country to have a gambling free life, unlike others just like this case Japan have a lot of restrictions for so many things and gambling is one of them, so I don't know why the guy that was arrested didn't gamble online through a smart device and at the comfort of his home instead of exposing himself, I am sure there are active gamblers innthat country that stilk fine their way to gamble without any issues.
Yes, there are gamblers who have wagered more than him but have not been caught and will not because of how they manage the risk and keep what they do in secret. If i have to gamble despite restrictions then it is nothing and of course i will, some gamblers use VPN to access gambling casinos that their region prohibits, if they get caught in the act won't the casino suspend the account or seize any win. In my country, we don't use our Fintech banks to carry out any crypto transactions, but i do with them. Once you know a way out of restriction, try to do it at its best to avoid future problem.

It is ridiculous to me to be fined just for gambling but if that is the rules of your country.... you would have to follow.

If gambling was illegal in your country, would you still gamble?
When I saw your topic, the first question which I asked myself is if gambling is illegal in Japan, but when I went through your post, and I discovered that gambling is really illegal. Am just surprise to see the amount which the person gambled 9on, gambling with such a big amount of money is so risky, the risk is just too high. The amount which the person gambled with is so much, and I don’t really know how the government gets to know about his gambling activity.

If you are in a country, and maybe you participating in a activity which is illegal in the country, then you will have to stay low, don’t even do things what will make people around you to suspect, because some people that are close to you are still the ones that are going to report you maybe if you are earning more than them. You are suppose to look for possible means thats not going to make the government suspect you.

If a type of gambling is illegal in your location,  the ideal move is to avoid them. It will be a criminal offense if you want to use some privacy tools like VPN to bypass or invade the ban. One day, you might make the mistake of revealing your identity, or someone could report you to the authorities. It will be better to seek other forms of entertainment than to commit a crime because of gambling.

The law is the law and breaking the law knowingly or unknowingly has its consequences and this is one of it that he is facing now. You cannot be working for a casino online and also using your social media online to invite people to the casino and expect that you’ll not be caught. He has not done well even when his case does not involve any illegal act of causing harm to people. The government is above all law and you can’t fight them. If he is so good at gambling and interested in gambling, he should have left to another country to gamble where gambling is accepted and not illegal. This is a deliberate act and I don’t think he’ll be left scot free without being penalized in a law abiding country like Japan.

He clearly know the rules but still chose to violate it. Now he is arrested for going against the rules and using a huge amount of money. Unfortunately it's just the consequence of his action.

If gambling was illegal in your country, would you still gamble?
Physical gambling here in our city is prohibited and violating this rule will make you fine a certain amount. But online casinos are allowed so that's where we play if we want to gamble. However, in different cities they didn't implement such as long as you're going to play in regulated casinos.

I believe this is normal if they have a limit for each individual in Japan, even if you are not aware, the government has the right to arrest you.
Gambling in casinos are illegal in Japan, the only form of gambling that are permitted are those events that are publicly contested like horse and bicycle racing. But that does not mean that people do not follow other backdoors to gamble in casinos. What caught the attention of the authorities in this case is the amount involved and the activities of the gambler who was visible in social media. You can't be violating the law and not take caution, at least basic safety, which is the key mistake of the gambler.

You won't get caught if you use privacy tools along with cryptocurrency, so it should be a VPN plus crypto.
Gambling online is the safest option if you want to gamble, but if your country prohibits it, use these tools.

But why was the gambler arrested in the link provided by the OP?
It's because he was openly promoting gambling on social media, despite knowing that it was strictly prohibited.
It's an idiotic decision.
IMO, if gambling is illegal in a country, it's important to respect those laws, because nothing says ‘responsible adult’ like openly breaking the law for some risky fun!

It is really absurd that countries ban gambling for their own people and make decisions for people. Gambling is a completely personal choice. Instead of banning it, they can try to make people aware, for example, there are many countries that ban it the easy way. It is not acceptable to have only licensed casinos given by the state and completely under state control, in fact, this is what happens in many countries, in the countries I know.

Gambling in Japan is basically illegal.
However, it is legal in special cases
afaik public sports gambling or lottery is legal in Japan. But also all other gambling is not legal. This certainly includes online casinos.

Since it is not legal in Japan, Makoto Chomabayashi was arrested by the Japanese police, ok?
Each country has different rules when it comes to gambling. We should definitely respect the rules and regulations of each country.

You know that wagering is most common in America. Here too, gambling is illegal in some states. Utah and Hawaii are among them. Also, gambling is legal in several other states, subject to certain conditions.
