Someone pointed this out last week and it continues.  Check bitstamp.  I notice large 5 dollar bid/ask orders.  Is it a bot or something?  What does this mean and will it affect anything?

Do you mean several ~0.01 BTC sells (sometimes buys) in quick succession for minutes? It looks to me like tape-painting to induce panic. Last week it seemed to be extremely useful.
