As the title of this thread implies, am just curious to know how often other veterans Bitcoin investors check their holdings, because I observe that I usually check my wallet balance the minimum of four times in a day, even though I never wish to, sometimes it gets me worried especially when the price of Bitcoin decline, but what have kept me to not panic about it is the research I have done and the knowledge I have gathered, so i don't know if I am in this alone, how often do you guys check your holdings?

What will be the need of checking my Bitcoin holdings worth per day, when I know that I am not selling yet. That's the question I keep asking myself.

I hardly check my Bitcoin wallet. The time I know that such thought crosses my mind is when I hear positive or negative speculation about Bitcoin, I can then view the price of Bitcoin on coinmarketcap to know its worth. Any other thing apart from that to be viewing Bitcoin holdings every day, will be least person to do that because it doesn't make a sense

You are probably new to crypto. At the beginning, I used to check my portfolio regularly, but as time went on I could take days or weeks before checking. I mostly use desktop widgets to track the Bitcoin and altcoin prices so if there is any movement, I don't have to check my portfolio app.

Also, if you are HODLing for a long time, then short term fluctuations shouldn't worry you.

If that is holdings for the long term, why would you check your balance from time to time?
Unless if you are a trader, it's normal that you check your portfolio often because it's addicting you want to see your portfolio in positive and panic when it shows negative.

I think what you did was you kept checking the price of BTC, not your wallet balance itself, because if you said you often visit your wallet to check your balance, the reason I think if we often check our balance is for protection, waiting for transactions, or to monitor the balance, but if you are using an app on the phone like Electrum, it notifies you when there are incoming transactions. So you don't need to be worry much about your balance unless if your purpose is to check the price of BTC?

If that's the case, then, like others said, you can use widgets. I use CoinGecko and OKX Widget to show me the updated price of BTC and other altcoins.
I myself am monitoring BTC live in TradingView because I am looking for opportunities for good entries for trading, so I don't check the price often, but I am watching.

This probably means you're invested with amounts you're not comfortable losing. I would've understood more if you were checking the wallet just to make sure the funds are safe...(and even then, a hardware wallet should've fixed that for you) but the price? not really. Just use CMC or some portfolio app to alert you when the price increases or decreases with a certain percentage, and forget about it.
This one!

This is the most accurate answer to this on which at the time that you have invested into the amount that you cant be able to afford to lose then you would definitely be that checking out your balance every now and then on which this isnt necessary specially if you are that trying to hold for long term then there's no point on checking it out too actively because if you are that fond of checking out the markets and seeing your portfolio is going down then there's that high chance that you will be that touching up those holdings and selling it out at the moment that the price drops or simply panic selling because you are afraid to lose or thinking that it would go to zero. Usually newbies are the ones who do have such behavior in regarding into their holdings. For security purposes about checking it out if their coins is still there then you wont be needing up to worry as long you do know that your keys or phrases isnt known by someone or havent seen then it should be just that fine.

Therefore, the best solution to this one is to avoid on seeing the market and any other crypto related sites and just focus on trying out accumulate as much as you could because this is just that intended for long term holds. You will be that disrupting your mind if you do keep yourself being updated on whats the current price and just mentioned that only invest into the amount that you can afford to lose or you are confident about it and doesnt compromise your finances on which this will be that having that confidence and worry free on this case in comparison when you are investing heavily or when you are making up that all in kind of investing on which it will be that making you highly reactive just because you cant be able to afford to lose. Simply ignore those price movements because it is a volatile market after all.

Believe me, even though you aren't meant to panic this way, you end up putting yourself into panic mode.
And yes, the comment above was correct, you're invested in an amount you're afraid to lose, and you tend to feel the pain of potential losses more acutely than the pleasure of gains.  When you see the value drop even slightly, it can trigger anxiety and fear, making you want to avoid further losses.

I suggest checking less frequently and focusing on your overall goals rather than short-term price fluctuations.
This doesn't eliminate risk, but it can help manage the emotional side of investing and prevent panic selling.
Think of it as a long-term investment rather than a short-term profit chase.

After investing, never check the market and set a goal of taking a profit.

I only check when I see the market is red or when there is a sudden panic because the decline will be very deep.

If you check it several times a day, it may be because you are investing more than you can afford to lose and are always plagued by excessive worry.

So you panic when the price dumps? Maybe you’re not really in it for the long-term holding.

Honestly, if you keep checking your balance every day, that’s a sign you’re not really ready to invest yet, it just wastes time and shows you don’t have full control over your emotions. My advice is to learn more about bitcoin so you understand that it’s had a lot of dumps in the past and has always managed to recover. Just knowing that should give you more confidence in your investment.

I actually don't look at the balance of my wallet, but rather the charts on trading view and I do that more than 5x a day, as you see most of the traders or holders doesn't care about their balances (maybe if you're in leverage) but most people who just buy asset and place them somewhere safe doesn't need to check the price of their coin/balance but would rather check the charts of the coin to see if it pumps or drops, it's more like an update for me on what's the current price of my holdings. I'm pretty sure many of us here do check markets/balances from time to time and it's not new.

But if it wakes you up in the middle of the night just to check to see if your balance is okay, I think you need to assess yourself as it happened to me before when I trade with high leverage before  Grin

This probably means you're invested with amounts you're not comfortable losing. Just use CMC or some portfolio app to alert you when the price increases or decreases with a certain percentage, and forget about it.

To be fair, even when I was doing the daily checking, and even when I had small amounts I was 'comfortable' losing I couldn't help checking it all the time every day, every hour etc. EVEN when a 10% difference was $10 I was doing it, and feeling the unreasonable regret of not selling 20% higher or whatever.

I guess it was a sign that I wasn't a good trader, and I tell people the same. If you're always checking, you're probably not a good trader.

Same applies for stocks, forex etc. Smiley

I only check it once a day and sometimes I don't check it at all in one day even though the Bitcoin price is increasing in the market. Moreover, when the Bitcoin price is decreasing, it actually makes me very lazy to open my wallet even just to see the balance that is already in it. And in my place, some people who often check the balance in their own wallet are people who have never had a large balance or have never had a balance at all. So stay calm in anything, including checking the balance in your own wallet because for me checking it once a day is more than enough.

It seems like you're not the only one experiencing this. Because to be honest, at the beginning I was accumulating Bitcoin for long-term investment, that's when I started checking my wallet diligently. Especially when I also hold several altcoins in my wallet. At that time I always checked it, almost every few hours.

But that only happened when I first got to know crypto and when I first started holding crypto coins. But here I personally rarely check my wallet except maybe at night before going to bed or in the morning after waking up. Apart from that, I rarely check my wallet. Because I feel like it's useless to check it too often. Because what I want is long term so I don't need to check it too often.

By your actions, you are putting yourself in a place where you will easily be affected to respond or react emotionally. You will not feel happy when you see your investment reducing in value; the temptation to sell or quit investing in bitcoins will be higher for you.

Save yourself that stress and tension; invest and keep investing. It is not bad to check your wallet balance; it can be bad to keep checking.

Anyone who has spent few years in Bitcoin can figure out that real benefit is only if you are willing to invest for long term. It's of little to no use to check your wallet frequently like on daily basis or weekly basis. If you have invested while price of Bitcoin is 50k$ then it will be worth checking your wallet only if price of Bitcoin makes it to 100k$.

how often do you guys check your holdings?

I login to my wallet once in 15 days to make sure my coins are there. Since I follow DCA to accumulate Bitcoin's, I check balance of my wallet after every two to three months. My aim is to continue accumulation for at least 5 years and and I half way around my journey.

Because I feel like it's useless to check it too often. Because what I want is long term so I don't need to check it too often.

You cannot get over the panic that comes with investing in Altcoins. Holding Altcoins are pure gamble because any market dip is going to cause a big bleed in your portfolio in such a way that a dip might even make your portfolio to die off, reason been that not all altcoins survives the bearish periods. But investing into bitcoin comes with the extra comfort and less panic than Altcoins because you’re certain that after a dip there is going to be a pump later most especially if you’re holding for a long term, you will only be scared or panic when you invest into bitcoin for short term.

One of the things to do to avoid checking your wallet every time is to set up a portfolio tracker on platforms like CoinGecko where you can input the total number of coins you hold and their proportion and then it will automatically calculate their worth in fiat currency of your choice and also gives you notifications during dips and pumps

This is the reason why it is highly recommended to invest using money that you can afford to lose, when you have adopted this strategy, whatever happens in the market will not affect your mentality. As a long-term investor, you don't need to check your balance four times a day, but if you're only investing for the short term, this is a very common practice to prevent greater losses.
I don't know exactly why you check your balance every day, but as a Crypto asset investor, you need to choose a wallet that has a higher level of security than usual, this can prevent unwanted things from happening to your assets.

If you invest in a trusted currency like Bitcoin and have a long-term plan, there is no need to check your wallet repeatedly every day. Those who trade can check the wallet repeatedly every day. Now I don't check my holding so often, yes I check too but not to see the price, I don't get disappointed when the price of Bitcoin falls, but try to increase the holding. So if you have a long-term plan, don't despair if the price falls, because if you hold your investment for a long time, you can expect profit.

Like everyone else, I also want to say the same thing. That you invest as much as you will not regret if you lose. But if you hold Bitcoin for the long term, then I would say there is no need to check so often. But if you invest in altcoin or memecoin, then of course you can check your balance twice or more times a day. Because people invest in memecoin for the short term. So that quick profit can be generated and there can be loss.
