You folks shouldn't make it look like investing in bitcoin and investing in crypto isn't diversification because both assets can be converted into cash, but it is just advisable that we diversify into another asset class, such as real estate or selling of commodities, so that we can reduce volatility in our investments, and at some point we can depend on the money we will generate from real estate or selling of commodities to solve our expenses, and it will allow us to hold our bitcoin investment for a very long time because we will not be in a hurry to sell our bitcoin investments since we have multiple streams of income.
My friend investing in crypto and investing in bitcoin isn’t diversification. The fact that you think they’re different is wrong, bitcoin is a type of crypto and when you say crypto I guess you’re saying altcoins and shitcoins. They’re all in the same class just that bitcoin is more stable and is a store of value, it’s the first, and biggest of all cryptos. So investing in bitcoin and investing in Ethereum or Solana is seen as one kind of investment which is crypto. Diversification comes in when you invest in a different asset class or industries. A totally different kind of investment from the previous one is what is considered a diversification cause the major aim is to reduce risk and increase your potential returns. Alot of people fail to realize that bitcoin is also a cryptocurrency, they seem to think it's different from cryptocurrency, bitcoin is basically the first cryptocurrency and every other altcoin that csme after were attempts to make a different version of it, some were even made to surpass bitcoin but they obviously failed in that endeavour as bitcon is still the biggest cryptocurrency out there, what has really set bitcoin aside from other cryptocurrency is it decentralised nature with no bank or government having any influence over it making it also the most secure cryptocurrency so anyone investing in bitcoin is also investing in cryptocurrency, to diversify would be to invest in other altcoins as well while already investing in bitcoin Please you don’t have to mislead new investors here that Bitcoin is also cryptocurrency, in as much as as bitcoin is also a type of cryptocurrency, it can never be compared. You should understand that Cryptocurrency is more like a general term that enclose many digital currencies, like litecoin, Ripples etc which are called shitcoins or altcoin and most of the coins are correlated with bitcoin prices movement. Also understand that bitcoin being focusing on secure, and decentralized currency, that’s how other coin have their own features, and most of it out there are not to be trusted. So be more specific please, if you’re talking about Bitcoin. You have to correct your statements regarding Bitcoin not been a cryptocurrency because it could mislead Newbies in the house. If I am correct you were trying to emphasize on if Bitcoin is also a cryptocurrency and if that's is it then your correct. Bitcoin was the first decentralized crypto currency that was created by Satoshi Nakamoto. Crypto currency is a generally used name for violatile assets and it could be very confusing sometimes to figure out which of the coins in specific you are talking about because shitcoins are also crypto currency. However Don't used crypto currency in general to defined Bitcoin,if it's Bitcoin then be specific that it's Bitcoin and if it's shitcoins, then specify by mentioning shitcoins so that we can all understand you better. Secondly you're correct for saying Bitcoin cannot be compare to shitcoins or altcoins. Bitcoin has no comparison and cannot be compare to shitcoins because it's has performed more better than all the crypto coins combined over the years and its also the best performing asset in the world till date.Bitcoin is the king of all digital assets. Bitcoin not being a crypto currency is a way of minimising the publicity of the term "cryptocurrency" while fostering the popularity of Bitcoin. Generally, the term Cryptocurrency sounds like scam due to the impression already created by altcoins, shitcoins and Airdrops among many investors especially the newbies who wrongly invested in them. Using the Specific nomenclature Bitcoin" could reduce the phobia among newbies who have been victims of the extreme volatility and crashes of shitcoins. The reputation built by bitcoin is not supposed to be misconceived as other shitcoins which is the point @ZerovinsonN was trying to emphasize. Bitcoin introduction and terms usage greatly matters when information a beginner about bitcoin since a little misconception or can sweep the beginners off the pace leading to increased panic response to bitcoin Volatility should they eventually invest in bitcoin.

I initially drafted the below response, and posted it in the WO thread since this thread was locked. So now, I moved the below response back to this thread. Diversification does not mean just dividing money in multiple places, but rather spreading investments in different and unrelated asset classes from each other, so as to reduce risk. For example, holding Bitcoin, while also investing in land or real estate or selling products or investing in your own business, etc.investing in different businesses means diversification. Investing in Bitcoin does not mean investing in crypto. Because most of the altcoins or shitcoins on the market are scams, fake projects, or extremely volatile, but Bitcoin is different. Bitcoin is the first, safest, and truly decentralized digital asset. If it is called "crypto" along with other coins, newcomers will think that all coins are equally safe, which is not true at all. Bitcoin, which is known as the most reserve and investment asset in the world compared to any other coin so far, should never be compared to Altcoin or sheet coin. Rather, we currently call Bitcoin as digital gold and it has retained that value, so comparing Bitcoin with any other coin would not be right at all. Personally, I don't have any major problem with the use of the term cryptocurrency as long as it is being made clear regularly regarding what it is being referred to, and sometimes people attempt to make comparisons between bitcoin and shitcoins and even try to proclaim that some shitcoins are better than bitcoin.. so then their use of the term crypto is to attempt to put bitcoin and shitcoins on similar levels, as if they were similar things.. which is also misleading... so then it becomes even more necessary to make sure that such use of such term is not misleading people into thinking that bitcoin and shitcoins are similar.. even though technically and even definitionally it may well be true that they all fit within a similar category that could be referred to as cryptocurrencies.... In some sense it seems better to continue to denigrate various shitcoins to offset their ongoing marketing attempts in which they attempt to place themselves as bitcoin equals, so then so many folks get sucked into shitcoins because they consider bitcoin and shitcoins as if they were some kind of equal or similar in such a way that the shitcoins could end up taking market share from bitcoin in any kind of lasting and/or meaningful way... so it can be difficult to get sucked into a process in which we are either having to defend bitcoin or to denigrate shitcoins in order to make the point that many folks should be attempting to learn bitcoin first before they even allow themselves to get sucked into various shitcoins... and yeah sure, there maybe be some folks who might learn quickly, yet even very smart people get sucked into some of the technical rather than sound money aspects of various shitcoins and then end up considering that there might be some value in various shitcoins, and so they end up disproportionately investing time, energy and money into shitcoins that would have had been better to have had been invested into bitcoin. So, sure it may sometimes start to feel dogmatic when bitcoiners are insisting on make it clear that bitcoin remains the one to focus on and figure out first and suggesting that folks try not to get distracted into shitcoins even though surely there are some folks who might be able to sufficiently identify the sound money aspects of bitcoin that should help to make it more clear regarding why involvement in various shitcoins becomes problematic and difficult to ensure not to get overly distracted into them. We cannot really stop people from trying to argue in favor of shitcoins and to want to make comparisons between bitcoin and shitcoins, yet some of the bitcoin threads are not really receptive to that kind of off-topicness, and so in that regard, there tend to be threads in which questions of diversification into shitcoins might be a bit more on topic as compared to a thread like this one that seems to be more focused on bitcoin, even though surely some members might want to know how shitcoins might fit into their bitcoin investment... which I personally think that no more than 10% of your bitcoin value, or time or energy should be allowed to be spent on shitcoins and/or trading (gambling), and surely a person who has more resources might be able to afford to be more distracted. Poor people likely should not be fucking around with any of those things.. yet I understand that some poor people might consider that it is quite difficult for them to earn money in regular ways, and so then they might end up resorting to trading and/or getting involved in shitcoins, which does not seem likely to be a kind of living that a person is able to both live off of and continue to build an investment portfolio, even though there may be a very small percentage who are able to figure out ways to successfully employ their skills (or maybe luck) in that direction.

1) Self-Custody is a right. Resist being labelled as: "non-custodial" or "un-hosted." 2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized. 3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

Mate I love your write because you didn't argue some fact rather you put a good piece of writing to expatiate further the reason why many Bitcoiners wouldn't want to associate Bitcoin with the cryptocurrency, just imagine as space littered with some sort of shitty coins called shitcoin, memecoin or whatever they are been called, so it really looks like as scam as you said if it not already, I wouldn't want to even talk about airdrop itself because the shit called airdrop has been one of the reason some persons out there don't really trust anything relating to digital currency even Bitcoin itself although thats there business since they don't want to still learn even after going through some mess while doing those time wasting things. I don't like discussinguvh about those unrealistic goal called altcoin and it's sister, so my advise for all newbies is, don't think altcoin way, Bitcoin worth of your investment, start now, no matter how small, you won't regret it later.

It is very necessary that a clear difference between bitcoin and shitcoins is well emphasized when discussing about cryptocurrency as a digital asset. Because it becomes confusing for some newbies misplacing, misinterpreting and equating bitcoin at same level with altcoins. The ignorance in the differentiation for some people emanates from the hypes the shitcoins developers and the lack of personal research to be able to categorize what bitcoin is to cryptocurrency.

Please you don’t have to mislead new investors here that Bitcoin is also cryptocurrency , in as much as as bitcoin is also a type of cryptocurrency, it can never be compared. I think you're the one misleading yourself or confusing yourself rather. Yes bitcoin is also a cryptocurrency, if it's not, what then would you call it? I agree that bitcoin is different from other cryptocurrencies, it is the best cryptocurrency for investment since volatility doesn't hinders investors from buying and hodling it for longer period but bitcoin is still classified under the term cryptocurrency and you're the one who's wrong. Cryptocurrencies are digital currencies that can be operated online through a computer device, while bitcoin is a digital currency that is decentralized and was created to act as an alternative to paper money but operates on blockchain technology, it is more outstanding than others cause it's the first decentralized cryptocurrency and because it has those attributes you mentioned doesn't mean that it shouldn't be classified as cryptocurrency, take note. It would be better if you refer to bitcoin as bitcoin because if you refer to bitcoin as cryptocurrency, you might mislead newbies to believe bitcoin is the same as altcoins or shitcoins and they might invest their money into altcoins or shitcoins, thinking they are investing in bitcoin. So for newbies to avoid such a mistake in their early stage, always refer to bitcoin as bitcoin so that they will know bitcoin is different from cryptocurrency. Don't be deceived; Bitcoin is absolutely different from cryptocurrency, and there's nothing like Bitcoin. And even though Bitcoin isn't the first decentralised digital asset or currency, it would still outperform cryptocurrencies because Bitcoin allows you to send money to anyone in the world without trusting a middleman.

You are totally right. Newbies need to know between Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. We can call any digital currency out there to be a cryptocurrency and by how they perform, they are literally not match to Bitcoin. Bitcoin does wonders, while some so called cryptocurrencies make the digital currency system sucks. Many projects are rug pull, scams, pump and dump, in general we called them shitcoins. And this have made many lose interest in Bitcoin too, tagging them to be all the same. This is the main reason why Bitcoin should not be categorized under cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is Bitcoin so let that sink in.

Since you dont understand I will make it even more clearer now. When I said newbies should understand that Bitcoin is not crypto, I am not telling them to deny the technical definition of what it is. What I want them to understand is that the term cryptocurrency has become so diluted by scam altcoin project in the digital space, rug pulls, and people now see Bitcoin in the same category, making people believe its also a scam whereas Bitcoin protocol contains qualities which no other digital asset can replicate. Just because a plane made with paper and an areophane flies means you can keep them in the same category of air transportation. One is efficient and the other is inefficient.

Yea, Bitcoin is too good to be linked or classified as cryptocurrency as they call it, for me I think Bitcoin stand on its own on a solid ground, Bitcoin do not only wonders, it goes beyond that, why people still trust the system till this moment is because of Bitcoin, many investors would've have abandone anything relating to digital asset if Bitcoin was no where to be found and for that reason reason Bitcoin is worth every penny we invest in it, there's one advertisement they do on our local TV station those days about paints, the buyer we be like am looking for saclux paint and the seller will say I don't have it but there's another one that looks like it, the buyer will say if it not saclux paint am not buying, so my advise to newbies is that Bitcoin has no rival, it can only be Bitcoin, if it is not Bitcoin, no other one like Bitcoin, it is as simple as that.

I don't understand what you mean by newbies need to know the difference between bitcoin and cryptocurrency, you're making it seem like bitcoin is not a cryptocurrency whereas it is, regardless of what you think or how any newbie wants to feel it won't change the fact that bitcoin falls under the category of a cryptocurrency infact all digital currencies are cryptocurrencies. You've already contradict yourself by saying we can refer to all digital currencies as cryptocurrency then you're saying bitcoin is not a cryptocurrency, how is it not when bitcoin is said to be a digital currency? Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency, no other cryptocurrencies can match bitcoin, it supercedes all, those are very correct but newbies should understand that Bitcoin still fall under the category of a cryptocurrency. Using the term cryptocurrency might be some kind of confusing since there are many other coin untrustworthy coin in cryptocurrency that's why it's be emphasis to use the term Bitcoin since the topic we are discussing is regarding to Bitcoin so using cryptocurrency is like taking us to a different topic which can be seen as off topic so instead of using cryptocurrency you are either say shitcoins or Bitcoin depending on the one you want to talk about so I don't see what is there that you can't understand. Although Bitcoin is a digital currency the trust among investors in it has increased to such an extent that most investors feel more comfortable calling this valuable investment medium Bitcoin. In reality just as we get used to using conventional fiat and it leads us to become more involved in life Bitcoin accumulation can have much more potential for investors than fiat savings. Just as ordinary fiat is affected by the effects of inflation, the value of the country's assets also tends to decrease. In that situation, the value of your real assets may decrease due to the effects of inflation. Bitcoin investment is an easy system for any investor to build an alternative financial security system. The wording cryptocurrency may be confusing for new investors, but this is correctable over time as awareness will be created among investors and they will continue to become more knowledgeable about the fundamentals of Bitcoin and will learn to distinguish it from other altcoins. Those investors will become more aware of Bitcoin importance and will start calling the store of value (Bitcoin) by different adjectives.

Yes.. many of us likely realize that technically bitcoin fits within the category of cryptocurrency.. yet at the same time, there are so many shitcoin pumpers and bitcoin naysayers who use such term of cryptocurrency in order to either conflate the differences or to engage in affinity scams that try to suggest that there are shitcoins that are equally good as bitcoin or better than bitcoin, yet at the same time, such affinity scams are merely either to pump up some undeserving shitcoin in order to scam people out of money or to denigrate or create confusion about bitcoin., and surely there are many folks who want to beat up on bitcoin and keep bitcoin down because they either don’t understand bitcoin or they feel threatened by bitcoin.. Bitcoin has been and will likely continue to disrupt and disintermediate various status quo rich institutions, governments and/or individuals, and instead of joining bitcoin, they prefer to fight bitcoin through whatever means that they can, including but not limited to disinformation and/or the creation of confusion.. and the promotion and use of the term crypto currency is one of those disinformation tools..

Exactly. I mean, come on... SOB isn't categorizing Bitcoin with Crypto accidentally, its either he is doing it to run distractions, or him and some folks in the same shoes are too deep in their belief to admit Bitcoin is operating on a different level. In reality, Bitcoin is the reason why other altcoins exist, and if they are people thinks altcoins are scams it threatens the very existence of Bitcoin. It is true that the The word cryptocurrency can confuse new people because it puts Bitcoin and all other coins in the same group. But with time and learning, people begin to understand that Bitcoin is very different from the rest......As they gain more knowledge, they see that Bitcoin has a special purpose, like being a store of value or a form of digital money that is not controlled by anyone, has massive utility which most other Altcoins or shitcoin probably lack........ Over time, they even start calling it things like digital gold because they realize it is not just another coin. So yes, with the right awareness, people will learn to separate Bitcoin from the crowd.....

You might be thinking that Bitcoin and other altcoins are the same thing. Yes, Bitcoin and altcoins live in the same crypto world. But one of them is king and the other is subject. Bitcoin is called the king of crypto because it is the only currency we have that is digital but a dream of the future. Bitcoin is used by people for freedom, privacy and asset protection. It is decentralized, so there is no fear of regulation and fraud. Since Bitcoin is very volatile, it sometimes scares people a little. But in the long run, it definitely benefits investors. This is why everyone invests in Bitcoin in the long run. Investing in other currencies most of the time leads to losses. So Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are not the same. We need to understand this. We need to understand and convey the right knowledge to others.

Bitcoin is in a world of its own, and no cryptocurrency can be compared to Bitcoin. It doesn't make sense if you classify Bitcoin as cryptocurrency because there are so many cryptocurrencies that have rendered some investors useless and made some investors commit suicide because of the money they lost in cryptocurrency investments. So for newbies not to see Bitcoin as a coin that's not free from scam, rug pull, and pump and dump and become skeptical of investing in Bitcoin, it would be good if you refer to Bitcoin as Bitcoin anytime you are discussing Bitcoin so that newbies will know there is a big difference between Bitcoin and cryptocurrency, which will help them invest in Bitcoin without being skeptical.

It is surprising how you've been on this forum for one year and still hasn't understood the reason behind not referring to bitcoin directly as cryptocurrency, maybe you've had a long time off or you've been on the wrong threads. Everyone knows that Bitcoin is a crypto currency, but the advent of many altcoins and shitcoins has soiled that term as scam. In other to maintain the originality and authenticity of bitcoin, investors are choosing it's name, 'Bitcoin' over the family name cryptocurrency', With emphasis on bitcoin. Bitcoin is completely different from what people know as cryptocurrency in recent world where every altcoins and shitcoins are aimed at scamming people of their hard earned money. Yeah.. it is unclear if SOB is actually ignorant or he is just acting ignorant when he is arguing technicalities in regards to trying to suggest that there is some kind of smartness to lump bitcoin in with other cryptocurrencies or to suggest that there is some value in using such a vague, ambiguous and misleading term. Yes.. many of us likely realize that technically bitcoin fits within the category of cryptocurrency.. yet at the same time, there are so many shitcoin pumpers and bitcoin naysayers who use such term of cryptocurrency in order to either conflate the differences or to engage in affinity scams that try to suggest that there are shitcoins that are equally good as bitcoin or better than bitcoin, yet at the same time, such affinity scams are merely either to pump up some undeserving shitcoin in order to scam people out of money or to denigrate or create confusion about bitcoin., and surely there are many folks who want to beat up on bitcoin and keep bitcoin down because they either don’t understand bitcoin or they feel threatened by bitcoin.. I think that SOB is yet to realize that bitcoin is in a world of its own and that’s why SOB is still comparing Bitcoin to other shitcoins. Bitcoin possess a different kind of value when compared to other shitcoins and at such it should be accord that regard it deserves. Most people who had previously attempted to invest in bitcoin and other shitcoins can really attest to this attribute. I previously made an attempt on investing in one shitcoin years ago, let’s say 3-4 years back and I can tell you that even upto this moment I can’t even find where this coin is listed, I’ve made several attempts to find it but no results and someone advised I should just forget about it that the coin is worthless and my money is gone. Now imagine if I had invested such money in bitcoin 4 years ago, (of which I did) it would have been a different story for me as I would be rejoicing by now. I’m sure I’m not the only one who might have had such experience even SOB can not deny it too that in one way or the other he hasn’t lost money in shitcoins. Bitcoin over the years have proven to be the most valuable asset, not just valuable but equally reliable and secured. I’m not trying to say that bitcoin will make you rich over night, but it is capable of that. And if you invest in bitcoin for the long term goal then you’re already winning, there’s no two ways about it. If you like invest in shitcoins for 20 years, the results won’t be the same as bitcoin and if you’re not careful, Your shitcoin will go missing and that’s the end of it. These and many more really separate Bitcoin from other cryptocurrencies and make bitcoin stand out in a world of its own.
