The "Gazeta" part of your username will always be an association with Italy for me (although it's spelled differently). I know I mentioned this to you before.

True... But Romanian and Italian are "sister languages"... In fact, from all Latin languages, Romanian este the closest one to Latin (excepting Italian, of course, for obvious reasons). This happens because, unlike other Latin conquerings (like the ones from Spain, Portugal, France), when Latins conquered Dacia (the country which existed 2000 years ago on the territory where Romania is located now), they did not only install military camps... They moved here. They remained here... settled... married the locals... And their descendants did not consider themselves Romans anymore, but Romanians.

So, practically, due to this combination of cultures, the Dacians started using Latin more and more... mixing up their language with Latin as well... and the result was Romanian language -- the closest Latin language to the original Latin

So, of course, many Romanian words are very close to Italian ones, including "gazeta" -- which, in Italian, is "gazetta"

I did create a hot wallet just for testing purposes to check the export/import feature, but didn't pair Envoy with a hardware wallet. This means import rather than export.

It may be used after wallet restoring from SEED you know and any BIP-329 comparable file encrypted with this SEED ^{labels are bound to addresses that in turn are bound to SEED}. Just tap the relevant file:


Sorry, I misled you. That "Download" option actually refers to downloading to their server when Magic Backup is turned on. Label importing happens automatically when you're restoring from their servers using Magic Recovery.

Thus, their label exporting/importing functionality is only useful for users of their Magic Recovery service, and not beneficial to others. I'm becoming disillusioned with them.

I thought about tagging @foundationdvcs and sending them a PM to check our conversation and shed some light on all this but I can see that they haven't been online since May. I will get in touch with their customer support again and ask. In the meantime, I will make an update in my OP to mention that label exports only work with Envoy (hot) standalone wallets.

Right, besides, it seems that those exported files can’t be imported into wallets that support the BIP 329 import feature, since the files are encrypted. They can only be used through their Magic Backup service. Looks like they're targeting "pea-gooses" with this approach. BTW, I have uninstalled Envoy from my Android because after upgrading to the latest 2.01 their Magic Backups is always turned on and I can not deactivate it. Looks like a bug form their side.

Perhaps it depends on which of the two options under "Advanced Backups" you choose. "Export Tags & Labels (BIP-329)" or "Download Settings & Metadata." The first should allow you to later import your labels in other BIP-329 supporting wallets, like Sparrow Wallet.

This is what their documentation says:

You can now export your wallet metadata in BIP-329 format! This will save your Notes and Tags in a way that you can easily import them in other software wallets, like Sparrow. Head to Advanced backups under Backups in the app menu to find this option.

I have made small changes to the Foundation Devices and Envoy App part in my OP. I see now that I forgot to make those changes in the post you linked to above. I will do that now. You can see below how it looks in my OP for the moment. This could change again depending on the reply from the Foundation Devices support team. I emailed them yesterday asking for more information about the label export function. I am interested if and when the export feature will be available for users with paired Foundation Devices hardware wallets with Envoy.

Thanks for reporting this. According to them, only some Passport hardware wallet users had issues exporting their labels and notes using the Envoy app. You were one of them.

I contacted them on 26 July asking for more information and if it is possible for users with Passport-paired devices to export their labels. I expected an email but never got it. But when I opened the page you linked to above I saw that they replied via live chat. They say that they identified an issue with BIP-329 exports when using Passport-paired accounts in the Envoy app. The support agent said that they opened a ticket with their engineering team to resolve the problem. I can only assume that it's now fixed. I will ask them again over live chat if that is the case.

But since you've mentioned that their GitHub page isn't active, I bet that the buttons and settings are in the same locations.

A Specter wallet contributor responded to my GitHub issue yesterday and explained how to import and export address labels. He confirmed that the option exists, it has just not been documented properly and isn't something immediately visible in the wallet.

Here are the step-by-step instructions as he wrote them. They seem to be a bit different from what you mentioned previously. Maybe there are multiple ways of doing it or the workflow changed with a recent software update.

Export labels:

Go to your wallet → Settings
Look for "Export" or "Backup" section
When exporting wallet data (JSON), labels are included in the export
Import labels:

Go to your wallet → Settings → "Import Address Labels"
Upload a JSON file with address labels
