The question is not how, but when

Having a teacher is not bad but you have to choose a teacher by considering all these factors like how good the teacher is or how much knowledge he has. Because out of all the teachers we see in the crypto world or those whom everyone considers as teachers, about 80% are scammers. The job of these scammers is to encourage everyone to invest in fraudulent coins by lying and making everyone buy these few coins.

You cannot always depend on the teacher, but rather, research everything the teacher has taught from other places and see how effective or good what your teacher has taught can be for you. At the moment, always keeping an eye on Bitcoin is the best decision and I myself always keep an eye on Bitcoin and try to keep myself away from all other coins.

You are right though. That is why the students also have their own role to play, which is to do their own research to confirm what their teachers said, like you highlighted, so that they won't make any costly mistakes. Relying solely on teachers because they are more experienced could lead the students to make costly mistakes, as no one is perfect in this world. So taking the necessary steps helps prevent unnecessary losses or damage. Also, in crypto one has to be smart and patient, otherwise they may get scammed.
Students or the learner at times feels like their mentors or teachers are 100% right , so there's no need for them to make research on their own. Instead rely solely on what their mentors teaches them. In the Crypto ecosystem alot of mentors are just desperate to make money off their students through payments for courses and private mentorship without even passing out good information to them. I remember when I first learnt about crypto, the guy I and my friends paid money to teach us, was just a fake guy disguising as a Crypto guru. That guy told us that if we invest our money into crypto today(especially in Altcoins/ memes), we will see massive profit, he showed us screenshots of his wallet and so many things then. We were naive to believe, which made us to lose money but that alone has taught me a great lesson to always teach yourself even after learning from someone, because it's not eveytime that they are right.

Many people have experienced something similar to your story, and yet some still won't learn, as they will blindly follow their mentor. Not that it's a bad idea for them to trust their mentor, but not in everything, because they are not always right and some of them mislead their students by lying. But if their mindset is centered on researching and making a habit of always confirming what their mentor says or teaches them, this will save them from constant losses and it will also help them in the future.

During the apprenticeship, a student has to choose a teacher to learn from, if that teacher teaches something wrong, the students may not have the ability to catch their mistakes. Class teachers can play an important role in gaining knowledge outside the textbook for students, but still we trust those teachers because our children study there. It is good to choose a mentor to learn about crypto investment, but it would not be right to depend on him.
As you said in your crypto experience, I have not really been dependent on anyone or gone to anyone for advice. I took advice from experienced friends among friends and verified the knowledge gained online and then made a decision. Literally, none of us have the same income and expenses as others. Applying our own knowledge is the best in investment decisions.

So do not completely trust your mentors that you ignore research, especially mentors that have no personal relationship with you.
I think as adults, there are certain things we don't have to be told again and I can understand talking about it helps but doing your own research is basically the first thing any good mentor would tell you. In fact it is from where your research stops then you start having conversations with the mentor, I think that's how it should work because doing your research is a way of showing commitment and it only after then your mentor should start advising because even sef you will have questions. If you do proper research, you will for sure have questions, so the mentoring will even be easier and straightforward and if you happen to stumble on something your mentor doesn't know, well, when you get there, you cross the bridge.

Some people might agree to teach you, but will never tell you everything because they don't want you to be greater than them or reach their level. And besides, even if your mentor is willing to see you grow to any extent, he is bound to make mistakes, and that's what makes him human. Doing your own research is going to help in many aspects, and you will be able to know when your mentor made any mistake, so that will be an opportunity for you to avoid that route for your own good, and also correct your mentor for his mistakes. That's how to go about learning, learning is all about sharing ideas and experiences.

Nowadays it is hard to identify which mentors actually know or understand what they are doing and those that are just pretending and hiding under the disguise of other people's knowledge pretending that they are actually good traders. It is important not to completely trust mentors because they cannot really teach you about everything that you ned to know about the market, you must also put in effort to make your own research because this is what you are actually going to rely on in the long run, personal research is very important.

I agree with you, mentor may have be experienced but that doesn’t mean that every app that he recommended to you must be the best for you. Some mentor may have benefits from the platform that they’re recommending, so it’s good to engage in your research before we trust any application.
So for me, mentor is suppose to protect you but you still need to verify information by yourself. It’s not entirely everything that someone tells you that you must accept immediately, most especially when money is at stake.
No matter how experienced or knowledgeable the advisor is, their advice will not bring 100% success in your life, because their strategy and awareness of risk and their skills and time were enough only in their case, it is not right to make decisions based on human nature that will work properly in your case, what can help you the most is your research or knowledge.

There is no problem in taking advice from others about any subject, but to gain the right knowledge or experience about a subject, it is very important to do your own research. The more research we do on a subject, the deeper we will understand the specific subject, the easi it will be to achieve success by following our way or adopting the ideals.

Absolutely true no matter how much we learn from others we should never stop doing our own research and thinking for ourselves. A good mentor should guide you and lead to the right way, you also have to be willing to learn from their own experience, mistakes and failures. So nobody know Everything even the best mentor can make mistake at times and their mistakes can teach you know what to do so at the end of the day learning is about sharing experiences and knowledge, we ask which other questions, correcting each other also and we grow together.

Trust is a every expensive commodity and should not be allowed to sleep off the hand of people who don't have value for it.
Come to think of it for me to learn from someone I need to trust him and follow the thinks he offering me even if I have to learn that several times before I grab it.
When it come to finance and business one needs to be careful no matter who or who the mentor is to us, because even the best trusted person can make one crie or try to sti from the person because they know what the other person doesn't know.

Of course completely trusting your master or mentor (a human even if angel) is not a good idea, doing that is one of the problem in the world even in the religion area of life. Here in Bitcoin, cross examination of what you are learning from others is not because they might have told you lies but because you really need to have understanding of what is being discussed mostly when it's an idea that you will put  into practical. Some mentors intentional put their followers into unnecessary condition because of selfishness or jealousy even. There's that need to check and recheck, search and research these ideas being sold to you whether for free or not to avoid some expensive mistakes.

Off course there are some people who doesn't have knowledge yet they claim to do so they can make some money from people who will be ignorant not to observe that, though sometimes you can not actually tell for certain but one thing I can use to find out is the result of the person because result always speak out. And again, there are some people who are very good I mean they have the knowledge but they are not good in imparting to others. Lastly, it will be insane to believe your mentor will teach you everything, as matter of fact that mindset alone will make one not to grow.

In 2026 people still do mentorship?  Embarrassed

I'm totally embarrassed that people are following mentors in 2026. The internet is filled with crazy people who come up with different ideologies and meanings of life. Their life is not ours to live. People have to stop this mentor bullshit early because their mentor will rip them off of everything they own.

Having a tutor or a coach is fine by me. If you see anything related to mentorship, exclude me from the list

I was having a discussion yesterday with a person I consider more skilled in trading than I am and the purpose of my discussion was to learn a bit from his experience about his journey so far in cryptocurrency trading to at least gather some motivation from it. While discussing he was recommending some of the applications that he had used all through his trading journey to where he is now and then it hit me suddenly that most times different people are exposed to different applications and depending on whom you are learning something from, or asking a question, it is not just their approach that they teach you, but they also refer you to applications that they make use of. Now I am not saying all the applications they refer us to are bad, but it is important and very necessary that we do our own research about the applications we are referred to. A mentor may be referring us to an application that they have an affiliation with or will have some benefit from without even considering that that application is not the best out there for the purpose you want it for.
So do not completely trust your mentors that you ignore research, especially mentors that have no personal relationship with you.

You’re on point mate, I have seen people who use referral when trying to teach people and each time I see something like this I always ask, what exactly is this person profiting for this platform or application that they are referring to other. It doesn’t just end with mentors, sometimes you see most influencers whom you regard with great esteem also doing the same and the truth is just that, regardless the fact that this people are your mentor, they can still be selfish in terms of not giving you the complete picture of why they choose those applications over the other apps or product.

So many times, I have seen people being mislead by their mentors. Sometimes is not that it's intentional, but coincidencely it just happened like that. So in other to prevent situations like this from occuring, making our own research is very important, not that maybe you didn't trust your mentor or something like that but to be ensure of your decision and not to do what you will start regretting later.

The main job of a mentor is to inspire you and help you do your research. Sometimes a mentor also gives you direction, he/she tries to give the right direction, but it is natural for people to make mistakes. A mentor can also make mistakes. No matter how much you trust your mentor, always do your research before following your path and decide what kind of steps you will take after researching.

You have to think about your life and understand the good and bad of your life. If you are on the right path, then you will enjoy its benefits, if you are on the wrong path, then you will have to suffer the punishment. A mentor cannot enjoy your life, so it is never wise to blindly trust a mentor.

Just as the saying goes “NO ONE IS ABOVE MISTAKE”. Our mentors are human like us so they can make mistakes too because no one is perfect. Mentors are meant to guide us and lead us through the right path of what we have no idea about, they serves as a guardian for us even if some of them might be after their own personal benefits but they are meant to guide us through the path we choose to follow because they know more and have more experienced towards that path before.

However we shouldn’t put much hope and trust on our mentors because we don’t know their intentions for us and how far they want us to go. Instead we can make things more easier for ourselves and making research by ourselves and trying to learn some things to stay more informed and be aware if whether this is actually what we want for ourselves or not. Is this truly what we desire?

The thing is that, it’s not making sense to call someone your mentor when you’re yet to achieve something meaningful and gainful from the said mentor. Having someone as a mentor is not really a bad thing but before such person should be called a mentor then he needs to earn it through good mentorship ideas which is passed from the mentor to his mentee. Most mentors can pretend to be good at the initial stages but as time goes on they start showing their real self, and that’s why it’s necessary to make careful observations of who you want to make a mentor before following their directions.
