I have been using a website that provides virtual messages for OTP. Mainly I use them for creating telegrams for clients when they need it. But there I can receive only one message, and that is OTP only. I can't read any other user's messages at all. So there is no chance to receive such a message. But in case I see something like this, then I will consider it's just a scam trap.

Ina case like this, mostly greed is what causes the victims to get scammed. Basically the victims would mostly want to visit the website so they can check and move any remaining funds there.

Someone who's greedy and stupid, seeing the message, would think the previous user had such an amount on the exchange and would want to move it, not knowing it was a bait. I wanted to create this topic because a friend asked me about the legitimacy of something he came across. This friend usually uses websites that provide virtual phone numbers which can be used to receive text messages, and these messages are usually visible to everyone. He encountered this first message, which everyone who used this virtual number would see,, stating that a large amount of USDT had been withdrawn through one of the websites. The visitor also sees login credentials for the account.

Now, everyone should be cautious: this is a phishing message that was intentionally sent to this virtual number to lure users into visiting a phishing website that impersonates the well-known platform OKX.


From this situation, we must learn the following:

1. Do not use websites that offer virtual numbers and receive temporary SMS services to confirm personal and important accounts.. Always create emails through trusted and official email providers.

2. Never open random websites you come across, whether on receive-SMS platforms or any other sites,, as many phishing sites impersonate famous platforms. You should always do the necessary research, bookmark only official links, and stick to using them.

Its quite funny how scammers never relent in their effort to do ill to any victim who isn't vigilant enough to read twice any re-read any suspicious links or respond to suspicious messages before falling victims to their ploy.
The reality of some of these scammers facing the wrath of the law if being caught isn't a scare anymore and that why i take it personally upon myself to increase my knowledge of their new schemes by reading such posts anywhere i find them and also keep track of any of my financial portfolio inorder not to fall prey to such false and misleading messages from anyone of suspicious looking numbers.

Thanks for this enlightening post and i must very well remind myself often and on, that using a short cut to help my situation may be detrimental as such is the case of using virtual numbers that have no strong root and origin because these scammers seem to get wet from using free access to these inferior sites because they either created them and it isn't under any regulations or control from the government.

There is nothing wrong in using a temporary virtual number, there are a lot of reasons why people use them, either for OTP verification or for businesses that use dedicated virtual numbers. That said, if you are using a shared temporary number, you don't want to use it for anything sensitive at all, just for throwaway stuff, and if you see stuff like the one in the OP, don't allow your greed to get the better of you, and you're fine.

Maybe the person who created CEX with a virtual number did not want to link his personal number or other reasons where they use CEX a lot so they use a virtual number as one of them. It could be that he was careless so that it resulted in a loss because I see from the OP picture that the amount is large, if we are sane about important accounts then it is impossible to use a virtual number that is used by many people.

Yeah, they're lazy as f and they shouldn't do this since it involves their money. I use these virtual numbers if I am going for games that I wanna try out that recently has just come and it won't hurt me mentally if something happens to that account. And if someone usually checks them out and these websites try to lure them with the phishing websites that they have come with, it's better not to be curious about it. I don't understand these people who uses virtual numbers for their personal exchange accounts, or if there is any that's really doing this. Because if someone believes that there are people like that, they are likely to fall for this scam attempt.

I'm also confused, the only reason i can think of is doing something shady or probably when you are not from that region or country. Virtual number are not safe, companies that lends out the numbers do have control over your informations. The providers are the ones handling your data, they have every right to restrict you from the network or force pass through your verification.

Can any exchange accept the use of virtual numbers when passing verification, i don't think the providers will allow the use of the number for every purpose.

The question is if they will be able to know its a virtual number unless you are saying that they have a way of finding out its a virtual number.

Like you said, I don't know why people use virtual numbers  as I have not tried it before, instead I use my real number and do have not head a problem before. Using virtual numbers seems like boycotting due process and protocols in oder to achieve what you want

Sometimes ago before i joined the crypto journey I've used one of those virtual numbers for my Whatsapp communication but along the lines I got cut off and every access of the generated virtual phone number was denied.
Honestly I feared that my datas and privacies has been compromised whereas, the site developers has logged me out and take accessible position of my data's.

I literally don't know how it happened but there was duplicate of my Facebook page where the malicious one was sending friend requests to my friends whom I've already been friends with the original or primary account if I must say. A lot of data and lost of my Privacies become a serious threat but at the end my device data's were still intact while I lost the WhatsApp number. Maybe if I've wallets or any source of the scammers targets I'd had been victim because I was of zero knowledge about how phishing the internet could be with those unpopular scamming tricks.

Scanners are getting wiser always, they making more researches than everyone just to make sure they provide an new way of scamming people that will not be fully recognized and on time, and because this, we need to be very careful always and make sure we always use the right channels.

In all honesty, the issues of scammers is becoming worse every day.  As a result of their persistent search, on how they can easily figure out how to hack people’s assets.  The reason for this is that the more those scammers are caught, the more they continue to look for a way on their own.  In order to scammers, it is imperative that we learn the following.

You are correct some newbies fall victim to scams by clicking on unnecessary links they see online because they are frustrated by FOMO, especially when the links include an offer. Newbies should know that if something seems too good to be true, it is probably a scam because the link may take you to a fraudulent website where they can steal your personal information or financial details, and it may also download malware onto their device. I have also received such a type of message before, which I did not treat seriously because their first mistake was the message popping into the SIM, which I have not linked to any exchange account before.

Secondly, it's been long since I used the exchange, and I'm pretty much aware that I also don't have a single dollar left in that account, so it's totally equal to a waste of time for them.

Many persons makes this mistake of having to use these services in verifying financial and important documentations simply because, they want to stay private and not really tied to it meanwhile, you are out there dealing with a lump sum that you would regret loosing.
It’s never ideal for sure and if you don’t want to lose everything in any eventuality, it’s always best you use a mailing service that you trust and phone numbers you are solely in charge of.
