Out of curiosity is why I am asking this question.

Which set up would you rather go for?

Four pieces of BitAxe with 1.2Th each (gamma 601 edition) and 17w power draw per miner or

The single NerdQAxe++ with 4.8Th and 72w power draw.

Also is there any advantage running 1TH miner separately or combining all power together on a solo mining pool vs just the single 4.8Th miner?

Solo mining only.

Considering your chances of winning the mining lottery, I see no difference in using 4 BitAxe 1.2Th or 1 NerdQAxe++ 4.8Th.
The only difference is that if NerdQAxe++ breaks, your mining will end, and if 1 BitAxe breaks, you will continue mining on the other devices.

I agree with @FP91G. Although i would also check final price (which include tax, shipping, import and other cost) of buying 1 BitAxe 601 or 4 NerdQAxe++ to consider which one to buy.

Discovering the next block is a game of chance, so whether you use a couple of miners or just a single one, you are going to have to count on chance. It's like throwing a dye and expecting a 6. Someone could get the 6 at the very first attempt while another could fail to get a 6 after 20 attempts

they are a tie if they all work together as they should.

but if the nerd quits you zero out your hash.

while if a gamma quits you still have three working.

i own a gamma it goes down all the time.

personally they are not worth it to solo mine but they are worth it to point to viabtc and simply stack the 20 or 30 cents a day they earn.

For the pennies a day or miniscule chance of hitting a solo block I would go for the NerdQAxe++

Yes if it dies / crashes you stop mining.
The other side is that you are only managing 1 device, not 4. So it's more time and effort and things to go wrong if you have 4 things to deal with.

If they were all throwing off $10 a day it's a different outlook. For that little bit of $ do you want to manage more devices.

yeah my single bitaxe is lucky to run a day in a row.

I still argue point them to viabtc.

about 20 cents a day is 72 usd in a year

set the payout to 0.001 and in 500 days you will get a payout of 0.001 btc.

it is a good dca and hodl method.

set the payout to 0.005 and in 2500 days you have 0.005 btc which could end up being a decent piece of change.

From a hashrate perspective, both setups give you the same 4.8Th/s so in theory, your solo mining chances stay the same.
If you like tinkering, flexibility, and modular setups go for the bitaxe quad.
If you want simplicity and plugandplay grab the nerdQaxe++.
Either way, solo mining is still mostly about luck and uptime.

Personally, I’d pick 4 bitaxe units - just for the redundancy and fun of messing with the firmware.

I would take 4 BitAxe units if their price is not much higher than 1 NerdQAxe.
If the price is significantly higher, maybe the cheaper hershade will be better.
