I’m currently working on building a custom social media platform with a forum-like structure—something loosely comparable to Reddit, but fundamentally different in vision and execution.

While Reddit could be seen as a close competitor, here are a few core ways my platform will stand apart:

---

1. Revenue Sharing with Users
One major difference is our monetization model. I plan to introduce a revenue-sharing system where active users get rewarded. Whether your post is brand new or years old, if it's generating views, you’ll earn something. The exact percentage is still under consideration, but the goal is simple: everyone who contributes should get a share of the value they help create.

---

2. Seamless Multilingual Experience
The platform will be fully multilingual without fragmenting the user base. A Chinese user can receive a DM from a Spanish speaker, and it’ll appear instantly in their own language—same for comments and posts. Users can engage globally without language barriers, and you might not even notice the original language unless you check the user's profile.

---

3. True Social Media Feel
The home page will feel alive—full of trending videos, images, and posts from across the community. Not just a list of threads, but a dynamic, visually rich feed that mirrors the energy of modern social platforms.

---

4. Built-in Marketplace with Escrow Option
Given the diversity of the user base, the platform will include a marketplace where people can buy and sell products or services. An optional escrow feature will protect both buyers and sellers—adding a layer of trust and safety to every transaction.

---

5. Fair & Affordable Advertising
Unlike today’s overpriced and greedy ad ecosystems, this platform will offer advertisers real value. Ads will be placed where they perform best and at fair rates—benefiting both the advertiser and the user experience.

---

I'm building this project solo for now and aiming to launch before bringing on partners. It’s a big undertaking, but I’m fully committed.

If you have any tips, questions, or suggestions that could help shape the vision further, please drop them here—your input could make a huge difference.

Whether your post is brand new or years old, if it's generating views, you’ll earn something.
This is great, but how are you planning to deal with fake views?

A Chinese user can receive a DM from a Spanish speaker, and it’ll appear instantly in their own language—same for comments and posts.
Not sure which translation tool will be used on your platform, but there'll always be the issue of something getting lost in translation [unfortunately].

The home page will feel alive—full of trending videos, images, and posts from across the community.
Although this is something that younger generations would prefer, I think it'd be nice to also have an option to turn them off.

An optional escrow feature will protect both buyers and sellers—adding a layer of trust and safety to every transaction.
Would you mind giving us an in-depth explanation concerning how the escrow system will work?

What programming languages will your platform be built on?

Would your servers be AWS (amazon web services) based or /other?

Which country would you be based in?

Are there plans to incorporate blockchain technology in the platforms design?

Will there be crypto based support for your marketplace and which coins would be supported if so?

Hi. its a great vision!
I’ve worked with an AI to brainstorm ideas to set it apart from competitors,
and we’ve come up with Decentralized Identity (DID) as a key concept.
(One of many and this is much shortened, but this looked the most significant to me)
The AI explains from hereon

Yes, Its a proposal for DID—built on blockchain technology—as a game-changer. By 2035, centralized data control will likely be outdated due to privacy concerns and regulatory demands. DID lets users control their data via digital wallets, deciding what to share, while your platform acts as a secure facilitator. Pairing this with privacy-preserving AI for personalization (e.g., tailored feeds) without storing raw data centrally builds trust.
Loyalty and Relevance: Position your platform as a safe haven with a tagline like ‘Your data, your rules,’ resonating with future users. Tie DID to revenue-sharing with bonus earnings for adopters, creating loyalty. It also ensures resilience against stricter data laws, unlike competitors with legacy systems.
Tech Trends: DID aligns with Web3, IoT, and VR/AR by 2035, enabling secure identities for marketplace transactions or virtual meetups, positioning you at the forefront of digital ecosystems.
Implementation: As a solo developer, pilot DID with a beta group using open-source frameworks (e.g., W3C) or partners like uPort. Start with basic authentication, expand to multilingual and marketplace features. Use intuitive onboarding for user education and ensure interoperability.
Post-launch, collaborate with Web3 partners to scale. This makes your platform unique, embedding user empowerment from the start, and ([maybe?]) future-proofs against tech disruptions like quantum computing.
Your project has immense potential, and it will be interesting to see how this could shape its future!
