We don't. And how do we know, that the current chain has the heaviest Proof of Work in existence? We don't know that too. But there are incentives to share blocks, which is why miners do that in the first place. And there are already some incentives, to show publicly the progress of cryptography, and be rewarded directly in BTC for doing just that. If you think, that there is not enough incentive, then again: put more coins in, or invent a better puzzle. What else can be done?

These examples are not related imo.

You are comparing a shadow chain to a tech advancement.

To create a longer secret chain than the existing one, miners need to re-direct their resources to the shadow chain. People will notice it because while the total worldwide electricity consumption is increasing, the hashrate on the known chain won’t increase proportionally. It is also a big gamble. Miners are not gamblers.

Tech on the other hand has always been doing what I have said. The inventors always let us use the beta and never give us the full product till they come up with a better product than what they currently have.

Google has sounded off.

I got to admit things are moving even quicker than I had anticipated.  And if my views of this timeline were viewed as optimistic, and rushed .. well theres a bigger shit storm coming  ,as I said in a different post about jlops proposal , Bitcoins kindof the least of our worries of this stuff keeps moving this fast.

This article is a just a google cloud ad.

"Quantum computers are coming and we are doing it better than anyone and don't use standalone -legacy- systems becuz reasons, use google clawd becuz we need your munney."

Can quantum computers become real, kill btc without giving a warning siren?

Not impossible but unlikely. If it happens suddenly without warnings, think about how much btc you got, think about its weight in your asset portfolio. Then think about the big institutions that hold thousands of btc. If they are not afraid, why should average Joe care?

Just move your funds to a PQ safe blockchain, let's call it BitcoinPQ, and sleep the quantum apocalypse off. No one will care that Satoshi's wallets are broken in 2 seconds since BTC price will have already dropped to 0 long before that happens.

Yall need to get to work on protocol proposals soon.

I dont have a complete solution yet, but its time to seriously consider Taproot upgrades, a new SegWit branch, and double or triple signature signing.

Focus on the lowest common denominator right now.    signatures.

Something like ECDSA + SPHINCS+ + Merkle Tree could be a start but its still just a patch.

Nothing will be secure soon.

nTimelock can buy time temporarily, but this barely scratches the surface.

People are already researching curve collapse functions and log resolution methods.

If youre stuck in infosec field practices and principles its time to get creative and step out of your comfort zone.

Deterministic functions are not truly one way they only feel that way because of current computational limits. Thats temporary.

My 2 Sats FWIW

yea start preparing now so you dont regret it later. developers need to start creating new way for the changes that are to come for sure to protect our money and keep it safe. to be fair nothing online is safe but we know this and we still take the risk everyday. digital signatures is a good idea but soon enough this would also become at risk
