Thailand was posting fake news about how Cambodia has no electricity or gasoline now. And Cambodians are flooding over the border to buy gasoline.
The only affect any of this has had was that they disconnected the direct connection of internet from Thailand to Cambodia and there's a milk shortage until stores all switch to Vietnamese milk since Cambodia doesn't produce much milk. Probably Vietnam. Gasoline is one thing Cambodia imports 100%. Definitely need all this added stress from this situation.

I really hope this doesn’t escalate. We have seen far too many unnecessary civilian deaths in various countries over the last few years. I pray that sense is seen & the people in control deescalate before it goes too far & other countries get involved, making it a bloodbath.

Based on the report, already 16 killed and tens of thousands displaced, coming from the Prime Minister of Thailand. Phumtham Wechayachai, this could escalate to war.
The reason for this is

The outbreak of fighting between the South Asian neighbours follows weeks of tensions which have been brewing since May, when a Cambodian soldier was killed in an armed confrontation on the border. In February, a dispute over Prasat Ta Moan Thon, a Khmer temple close to the border in Thailand, intensified when Thai police stopped Cambodian tourists from singing their national anthem at the contested site.

This is detrimental to Thailand’s flourishing tourist industry and the economies of the two countries, even if the war is ongoing along the border. I hope the Southeast Asian nations will interfere to stop this before it escalates to total war. We will see how strong the negotiating power of the SEA body is to prevent this conflict.

Like it's not enough ongoing conflicts in theworld right now here we go with another conflict. I don't really know reasons behind this conflict - these countries is way too far away from me that I would follow closely what's going there.
But from what I see, I don't expect that it will grow into bigger scale conflict. Few days of escalation before they will reach ceasefire. Something similar like we saw between India and Pakistan during recent escalation.

Every day, more and more countries are inclined to war. Of course, everyone hopes Thailand and Cambodia will soon negotiate a ceasefire, it's heartbreaking to see civilians die. According to reports circulating in various media outlets, the conflict between the two Southeast Asian countries stems from a dispute over a territorial dispute. Both countries have now recalled their respective ambassadors as tensions escalate.

War always indirectly causes suffering and casualties, both in terms of loss of life and economic hardship. So many causes of wars are because of border disagreements, even on the sea, there are disputes like our country, which is facing challenging issues because China wants to occupy part of our area of responsibility in the sea.

Just like the border conflict between India and Pakistan, the Cambodia-Thailand conflict also stems from territorial disputes and this has been going on for the past century, it is not new. Things suddenly became tense and both sides attacked each other when a Cambodian soldier was accidentally killed in May 2025.

And just as you said, the conflict did not develop into a full-scale war. According to the latest news, Trump has stepped in as a mediator and the whole country has agreed to an immediate ceasefire. While there is no official confirmation yet that the two sides have completely stopped firing at each other, this is also a good sign. The conflict will not spread and become serious.

The main gripe with this is that while Thailand has always consistently push for bilateral dialogue, we know it's not going to work well if both sides blamed each other and holds different map. I totally think you need a mediator for this, hence I really support the ICJ thing. Now, Cambodia also don't want to do bilateral means. So, let's just say they force us to do bilateral talks, the next pre-scheduled talk is with JBC in September 2025, and that's full month away. Three days in and some 20-30 people has already died, so yeah similar situation, annoyingly.

I am not quite informed yet on what is going on between those countries, they are literally in the opposite hemisphere of the world from me. So, is all this about a site/temple being taken over my Thailand because it has some recognition by the UNESCO? So far I have read a bit and those countries do not even have mutually agreed to recognize their borders.

The latest news is that they agreed to a ceasefire, but there are accusations against one another of breaking it. Again, Trump is in the headlines for brokering the talks and giving them an alternative, and again Trump gets his way.
All eyes are now on the 4th of August to see if they will ratify a peace agreement, or war will continue to settle this decades-long war that no one refuses to back down from.

Let's say it as a yes because that's what they are fighting for and the name of the temple is Preah Vihear Temple and Thailand has also a name for it which is Wat Phu Khao. So being a UNESCO heritage site, it's a big plus whichever country owns it but the two them claims it. Recently, AFAIK, they've got a ceasefire and then agreed to do that. But then, Cambodia betrayed that deal and they've attacked it. Too many lives are always at stake with these wars and territorial disputes, we can't live in peace with such wars. The world has got a lot of happening and it just adds stress even if you're not from there but how much more the victims and people that are living there and don't want this to happen, right?
