There are some times gamblers don't talk about their losses; maybe at the time, they are struggling financially, and people around them really do not expect them to gamble with the little they have. But unfortunately they have and have experienced loss, so it will be an embarrassment to them, so they often choose to keep it private.
Some do it to make people believe they aren't addicted to gambling. While some lie that they have been robbed or maybe lost it in other pitiful ways, most especially when the money does not belong to them, to avoid being blamed for your recklessness. Perhaps it's an unhealthy habit.

Yeah I’ve definitely done that before. Back when I was deep into gambling I would downplay the amount I lost or make up little stories just so nobody would question me. I remember telling my girlfriend I only lost like fifty bucks when it was really closer to five hundred. Other times I’d say I had to help a buddy out with cash when in reality I blew it at the slots. It becomes second nature after a while because you’re so embarrassed and you don’t want people to see how bad it’s gotten. Looking back now the lying was almost worse than the losing because it eats at your relationships and your self respect.

There could be a hundred and one reasons why a gambler could possibly lie about their gambling losses, some of those reasons could actually be reasonable and some might not. but the main point is that, inasmuch it's pointless to always consider other's POV about your gambling activinties (except it's a constructive criticism) gamblers should also try as much as they can to avoid indulging in gambling activities that would result to them having to lie to others about their gambling activities. for instance, if a gambler gambles with little money that they can actually afford to lose, and maybe they eventually lose that money to the casino, there would be absolutely no point having to lie to others about that lose because it's a minor loss that antone can experience.

There could be a hundred and one reasons why a gambler could possibly lie about their gambling losses, some of those reasons could actually be reasonable and some might not.

It's true, some people choose to lie because they've lost control while gambling, leaving them with no savings. This is a common mistake. The worst part is when they got money from their lying drama, and end up using it to gamble again instead of covering the expenses they were supposed to meet because they used the money for gambling. So he looked for the closest person from one person to another to lie to cover up. Not all person like this, but we can easy to find person like this in our life.

That's true. Well, as long as you don't owe money to anybody then it's fine to keep it a secret especially if their words can't help you to move on.

for instance, if a gambler gambles with little money that they can actually afford to lose, and maybe they eventually lose that money to the casino, there would be absolutely no point having to lie to others about that lose because it's a minor loss that antone can experience.
There are people who don't like to expose themselves as a gambler and be criticize for being one. So regardless of the amount of losses, they just keep mum to avoid judgement from others. I think it depends on the situation because there are scenario wherein lying is the best option to avoid further problem.

I think that's the worst part of gambling addiction, that fact you tend to do things that you are not proud of like lying, stealing, cheating and so on. People do all of these for the temporary gain which is to get money to gamble forgetting that it can ruin their mental health, relationship, career and a lot of things that are good. If you have made a change there's no need to look back at the past anymore , just move on

For some whom I have encountered they believe people are too quick to judge them so lies are the only way to comfort themselves and feel that they are okay instead of telling themselves the truth that they made mistakes. And from your perspective it's not even a good idea to attempt to gamble with an amount that your not willing to give up on.

Just know that addiction as I have experience is build up with lies around to cover the real truth and that's the only thing that comforts them.
