Using Real Personal Emails vs. Invalid Emails: Should I Switch?

I want to ask about are you using real personal email address on bitcointalk or invalid - temporary emails?

I'm using an email that is specifically for forums.

Should I also change to invalid one? For safety reason.

Ideas?

Like others have already said, if you are using a personal email, change it to a new one, but do not use an invalid email, instead, use an email that you will use for this forum.

Get it right, since the forum respect for your privacy, they don't very the email address you used at the point of registration, however, when your account got comprised, then you may need the usefulness of the same email to recover it, i will advise that you should use your own personal email and also go to your profile under forum information and edited it by checking on the button that allows your email hidden to the public, using a fake email may cost you now or later, but you can always create an email address for that as well if the address is not taken already.

As a newbie it's necessary to ask to know, but I sense that what makes you to as of this kind of question is because you thought that bitcointalk is an illegal, and that's the reason why you wants to know if it's necessary to use a valid email to link with your bitcointalk account

At first, I want you to know that using invalid email to email link to your forum account it has a lot of disadvantages, such as if someone is trying to change your password of your bitcointalk account you will not be notified, secondly if forum decides to move users to new forum if your email is not valid you will not be aware

For it's necessary to use a valid email to register in bitcointalk or if you do not register with a valid email you can make changes of email so that you will notify when theirs a positive/ negative things in the forum.

Why do you want to make use of invalid gmail for forum? Does it even make any sense? The best thing which I will recommend is just to have a separate gmail for the forum, or make use of the gmail which you don’t use anyhow.

If you make use of an invalid gmail, what if anything happens to your forum account, and you want to change your password, how are you going to do that? I don’t know if bitcointalk is illegal in any country, but I don’t really think so, if bitcointalk is not illegal in your country, then why are you going to make use of invalid gmail? Are you sacred or what? I don’t know maybe am the only one that do always protect my forum account, so why will I even think of making use of invalid gmail.

It's everyone's choice what email to use, but personally I wouldn't use invalid email. As already said above, mostly because of account recovery reasons. If your accouint will get compromised, it will be impossible, or very complicated to recover your account.
If you don't want to use your main email address for Bitcointalk, you can use secondary email for it. Many people have multiple email addresses for multiple reasons.

Good for you. I prefer to use different passwords on different platforms, so, I often struggle to remember it. Like now I don't even know my Bitcointalk password because here I have enabled option to always stay logged in. Also, it's advised to change t change your passwords time from time.

You actually need a valid email address linked to your Bitcointalk account for security reasons tomorrow. And most importantly, hide it from public view and not use it for any activity here on this forum. Because if eventually you might have wrongly registered your account with a temporal invalid email address, then it's advisable to go make a re-change on it now by using a valid email address, whereby you will be receiving notifications. So that in case of an issue tomorrow or suspicious activity, you will be able to have access to it.
However, I noticed that if you used both valid and invalid email address while opening account on this forum, it works, since it doesn't usually requires verification. But yet, I will still recommend people using a valid email address.

There are advantages of Bitcoin users and Bitcointalk forum members, as with Bitcoin private keys and non custodial wallets, they can sign a Bitcoin message to show that they still own the private keys. It's one of evidence to prove account ownership but of course there are other evidences like PGP key if possible and also other proofs.

Not recommended to use a personal email, its be good that you separate your personal matters with the forum matters, yes its convenient to use your personal email because you will immediately received a notification but once your email get compromise beside with your banks you will get risk with your account in forum. Use a spare email at least so its more organized.

Yes, you are absolutely right, and in such scenario, that's a more reason why it's also good for people wanting to register an amount on this forum to use a reputable email hosting provider such as Google or Yahoo mail (i.e for people living in areas where access to Google or Yahoo isn't prohibited).

It's your choice to use any mail but due to privacy reason you have to create another mail that is not in any way look like the original mail to maintain your privacies. For me I created an email that is not in anyway correlate with my home mail and I don't involved such to forum or any other social platform. You should use another mail to change it for your account so that you could be secured the account and you needs a functional mail so that it would also helps you to restore your account when either stolen or hacked from you.

I recommend not to use invalid one, if you forgot the password then you need email to reset the password if I remember it correctly and sure there's an alternative to go through with staked bitcoin address and signing in a message to prove the ownership in case you can't remember the password and you have been logged out but it can be a long process.

I am using an email that I will have access to all the time but it's not the primary email that I use for the personal use.

In that way even if there were a data leaks in the future, you email wouldn't have any personal information, since it was only associated with this forum.

And to be honest, if you staked your btc address, email wouldn't be an issue. AFAIK, it is only used to communicate with the support in cases of account recovery. And if you lost it somehow, you can just create another account, namely "Skjadoon_recovery" then sign a message, send message from recovery account to the team. If everything checks out to be ok, you'll get back original account.

This is a pretty self-confident statement. You know, everything that human memory can remember (I will not talk about those emergencies when people simply lose it) is quite easy to hack. You probably know that passwords to all our accounts, for our safety, must be different and complex, which should include not only letters and numbers with different registers but also several symbols, and the length of these passwords should be long enough. Remembering all the passwords is quite difficult, assuming that you have several accounts, and you understand that you cannot have one password for all accounts.

Don’t be so sure. I used a random email address when I created my account but later changed it to a valid one because I understood the value of my forum account and the risks of using a fake email. I suggest you create a email address specifically for bitcointalk.

I think one should always prioritize having original email intact before proceeding to signing a message, this way you can always fall back to the available ones when the time comes.

I've kept my personal email account for over 2 decades, not sure I can keep hold of a single Bitcoin wallet for that long.

Bitcoin private keys stay with you and you can use them for signing Bitcoin messages anytime.
Emails don't stay with you forever and companies provide email service to you can shut down their services, platforms anytime. You don't control your emails forever and it's not a safe account recovery method.

In Bitcoin forum, your Bitcoin private keys, and Bitcoin signed messages are most important things for account recovery.

There is PGP key and PGP signature but not all people can use them properly.

Email is a centralised thing. Nobody owns it. What if your email provider decides to block/ban/disable your email? I mean this isn't anything impossible. For me, I use google as my email provider. And I have heard many times that people got their disabled for suspicious activity or no reason at all! So No! That is not the best method to secure your account.

Just as notocactus described, Bitcoin signing message, PGP these are more priotized in Bitcoin forum. Because you can have full control over these. Although it is also true that not all can use these or these may seem a little complex, specially for the newbies...
