Could XRP (Ripple) Be the Next Bitcoin?I am sure upon seeing the title, you leapt out of your seat and got ready to disprove me. Well that is also my reaction upon seeing the title of this article. I then read the entire article and it gave reasons why xrp can be the next bitcoin. The article starts by introducing the two indicating their current value: Two of the most popular cryptocurrencies right now are Bitcoin and XRP (XRP 1.95%). As of this writing (July 28), Bitcoin's price of roughly $120,000 is hovering near all-time highs. Meanwhile, at only $3, XRP appears much more modest. Looking at the value already, we can say that these two are miles away from each other. But then the article continues to dive into what makes xrp so unique to be compared to bitcoin.... Ripple offers a compelling alternative payments network for cross-border transactions. The Ripple network allows transactions to settle within seconds, and at a much lower cost compared to SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) network. The article then compared the two's supply. Bitcoin has a limit of 21 million while xrp has 100 billion limit. It made me laugh how the article quite explicitly said this about xrp... the scarcity psychology seen with Bitcoin doesn't seem to be present.I think that we can stop reading the article after this one sentence... Ripple holds a portion of the XRP supply, meaning the token itself is not fully decentralized like Bitcoin is.I do not know if anyone ever thought that xrp would be the same as bitcoin or would be the next bitcoin but just by looking at the two, the differences are too noticeable. If you want to ever compare an altcoin (or god forbid a memecoin) to bitcoin, just write it out and notice how foolish you sound. I get where you’re coming from — the comparison between XRP and Bitcoin always feels a bit forced, especially when you break it down technically and philosophically. Bitcoin isn’t just a payment system; it’s a decentralised monetary network with a fixed supply and no controlling entity. XRP, on the other hand, was built for a very specific use case — fast, low-cost cross-border payments — and it does that well, but with trade-offs like centralisation and large pre-mined supply. The moment a project relies on a company (Ripple Labs) to maintain or grow adoption, it automatically drifts away from the “Bitcoin model.” XRP may have use-case potential, especially with banks and remittances, but calling it the “next Bitcoin” feels more like marketing than analysis. If anything, I’d say XRP is more like a specialised fintech token than a store-of-value asset. The two play in totally different leagues — and that’s okay. Not every altcoin needs to be “the next Bitcoin.” That said, it’s interesting how narratives like this still get traction. Maybe that shows how strong Bitcoin’s benchmark status really is.

I see ripple army is back on shilling it. Article that OP linked was dumb. It called XRP a stock and even in the article they stated that: The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now… and XRP wasn’t one of them. I am not even touching on the comments where people think that usdt might "take over" bitcoin. And people who are praising how "cheap" XRP is, i am assuming that you know it's more expensive then SOL or BNB now. And how is the fact that something is high on marketcap is a good thing now? That literally means it has less room to grow, because it can grow only so much. Maybe because they are been hype with latest movement of XRP. Now they are spreading this things to hype XRP and convince people to think about that it might be the next Bitcoin. But I heard this kind of statement or assumption for many times. None of it happen then also it seems like they are just playing the emotion of people and trying to catch on what will be the approach of people if they read or discover this kind of sentiments of people. But I think it will be so hard for XRP to do that since I believe Bitcoin will remain the strongest coin in the market and none of it can replace nor could replicate its dominance.

It is not even that. If they wanted to build something for cross-border payments they didn't need to issue their own token or make their own blockchain, but how else would the stupid founders of XRP get rich? If anything, I’d say XRP is more like a specialised fintech token than a store-of-value asset. The two play in totally different leagues — and that’s okay. Not every altcoin needs to be “the next Bitcoin.”

There's plenty of better solutions that don't involve XRP and it deserves to fade away to irrelevance.

Can i ask you how would you then solve the issue of cross border payments? what will be the counter party risk free asset to use in between for example GBP and USD ? you need a neutral assett and thats what XRP is and it works well with XRPL which has built in AMM. If anything, I’d say XRP is more like a specialized fintech token than a store-of-value asset. The two play in totally different leagues — and that’s okay. Not every altcoin needs to be “the next Bitcoin.” whats bit[Suspicious link removed]d for ? nothing you can use it for payments because it slower then snail and you cant do tokenization, XRP can be excellent store of value

While the hype for XRP lasted a while, it is long gone and nothing special about it is going on right now, it just moves up and down with the market. There was a moment, when the lawsuit dropped, they ended it and they claimed they "won" (they still had to pay in tune of millions punishment) and it went up right afterwards, skyrocketed even, but that was it, one time thing, nothing more.
It dropped for a reason after that, and it will do it again, every few years they make this a hyped coin but then everyone sees it's just a centralized thing where one company gets rich off, and everyone else gets the short end of the stick, so investors will leave, but that will happen on course of many years, then they will probably find another reason to hype themselves.

BTC has its own league xrp does have a solid use case especially in cross border transactions but it simply can not be compared to Bitcoin as soon as i saw the headline of your article i was surprised but after reading it i understood where it was coming from that said while xrp use case is strong ethereum offers far more in terms of utility and ecosystem so if there’s ever a contender to rival BTc it would more likely be ethereum...

Nothing compares to Bitcoin. I don't know how anyone can compare anything to Bitcoin. Ripple was once considered a shit coin but now they have developed themselves a lot and are in a good position in the market. ETH is the top 2 coin and has a huge market cap but still it can never be compared to Bitcoin so how can anyone compare Ripple to Bitcoin. Suddenly creating a big hype and moving to a good position in the market, it is not called Bitcoin.

In no way, shape or form is XRP the next Bitcoin. Just because it’s cheap & people would love to get rich by buying a coin low & seeing it ride to $100,000 it doesn’t mean it’s going to. The sheer size of the coin supply means it will never match Bitcoin. You can make money investing in it but it’ll never be the next Bitcoin.

There's nothing we can do about people who believe in that kind of thing, because there are some with narrow understanding and some with broad understanding. It seems so simple to grasp. For example, if you put an eaglet with baby chicks, that eaglet will still grow up to be an eagle. And do others really think that if Bitcoin wasn't created, XRP would have been? What I mean is, XRP wouldn't have been created if Bitcoin hadn't been invented. In a sense, what was created and the reason it was created—what was created can never surpass the reason for its creation.

XRP is not a cryptocurrency like Bitcoin and as such they would have created a version of it even without Bitcoin's existence. You can blame Coinmarketcap and Coingecko for listing it on their websites.

I think payment system and monetary network are the same. We can rather say that BTC is also an asset apart from it but that is also due to its fixed supply. Even though XRP is like that, we are still free to use it on other use cases that we like, like for example for trading or investing. It still can work well though because there is still some volatility on its value. Those who say that this or that coin might be the next Bitcoin is not even a company or individual from the same team, so I won't say it is like a marketing ploy. Yeah, it is surely fine if whatever we think a coin may like be. At the end of the day, what matters are only ourselves and the not the others.

When will these people give up hope. I mean it makes no sense for people to keep having this high trust towards XRP after all they have done in the past 10 years, and for some reason they still do. This is why it's a very big deal that we are going to see this, so it is not that complicated to end up with anything good. If we can see the reality then we will know that XRP is just a shitcoin with a good PR, nothing more.
People are trusting it for some reason and I have no idea why, because I have seen what it is about for the past ten years and I can say that it has never been a good project and yet somehow still managed to convince people that it is better than it really is. I am going to end up seeing this being a very important part of us.

In this day and age people have no morals or honor. As long as there is a money giver, they will obey him even if it means letting him f*ck you in the ass for 10 bucks. Ripple is sending out a lot of money in many directions for paid campaigns. Besides that, there is plenty of stupid people that you can catch by casting a very wide net. I don't think there is a chance to exhaust this type of people, there are simply too many in the world.

Well I do not think there will be a other coin that can be next Bitcoin. The closest 1 to do this will be Ethereum. It has more then 2 times marketcap of XRP.
But Bitcoin has a lot bigger marketcap and it is more adopted then Ethereum. It is the only coin that if you invest in it you will make alot of profit to just hodl it.

Unfortunately the huge supply cheap price trick works on some vulnerable people who don't understand investing and thinks XRP might be priced like bitcoin in the future which isn't going to happen. I even prefer ETH in this case because the ETF inflow is huge and there are tons of large fund manager rotating their money from BTC to ETH these days. XRP on the other hand is watching from the sideline.

Ethereum is a somewhat safe bet, but it is already too high and its technology is shit. The reward prospect is slim. I would rather go with Bitcoin and for the risky side pick some new competitors of ETH. Unfortunately the huge supply cheap price trick works on some vulnerable people who don't understand investing and thinks XRP might be priced like bitcoin in the future which isn't going to happen.
I would not say some, but many people. This is the only reason why we have so many projects with supply numbers that are so high. It is used to trick people to invest in them. Sadly some of these people can't be fixed until they lose a lot of money.

Evidently, never. I never understood it neither, but it has survived this long. If you asked me 10+ years ago, would this stay, I would have said it would have gone down long ago. But looking at it right now, I can easily say that it's still surviving. We can't really consider these people at "mistake" neither, because the point is to make a profit, and looking at the price, they have profited, so did they reached their goal? They have. That means they are not wrong neither, we are wrong, for saying it's a shitcoin. Will I change my point of view? Of course not, I always said it's a shitcoin and I still believe it's a shitcoin, that won't change. But aside from that, rest will be the same and nothing will change on that part.

It is not a new thing that anyone can make wrong analysis and publish on the internet to catch attention, even when their prediction it doesn't matter just feel for people that will feel misleaded. How can the author of the article say that xrp will be like Bitcoin or the next Bitcoin, he is only over exaggerating XRP if you ask me, how come they never know that Bitcoin is decentralized and kind of untouchable while xrp is centralized? They didn't even compare it with the other valuable altcoins such as Sol or ETH and they ran too far to Bitcoin.
So for us who have been in this market for so long, we already knew that what the author said is very wrong. There is no comparison whatsoever, XRP is very centralized and it has been labeled before as a banker's crypto. Nevertheless, it's good that we have this kind of alternative coins as they have their own use case that is totally different from Bitcoin. It's the newbies that will buy into this idea that I am feeling for because if they use this note to invest and at the end they encounter huge losses, that how they will start disliking and talking against Bitcoin while they were mislead from the start. I really wish some wrong informations can be easily filtered out online because it's not every newbie that will know this forum before they start investing, some will make mistakes because of the information they see online. XRP is not the next Bitcoin even in 2 decades to come.

You can blame Coinmarketcap and Coingecko for listing it on their websites. One of the online debates I don’t deem fit are the ones comparing Bitcoin with XRP because obviously it can’t never catch up with the top 5 coins to say the least. However, the fact that many still believe in it can’t be ignored and personally I won’t tag it a ‘shitcoin’ because it has its utility. Though i’m not really interested in it, i don’t think it’d be easy to scrap it off. For Coingecko and CMC to list it, that means some still find value in it and it got significant demand and trading volume.
