The length of the replies doesn't really matter, what matters most is how precise, contributive and solution oriented a reply is. There are lengthy replies that might not even add any value to a thread and such hardly gets noticed nor merited. I have noticed profiles that grow rapidly are those with selfless and straightforward approach towards the growth, continuity and integrity of the community and the coin which we all shill on this platform and beyond. Just to add to your list, here are some feedback that I also have observed in the past eight (Cool years of my stay in this forum:

  • The goal is to learn cryptocurrencies. If you push too much on focusing on earning merits, then it will take you a long time to receive one;
  • Utilize the search bar located on the top-right corner of this forum. Instead of creating threads for your question or queries, search it first;
  • Signature campaigns are a good source of earning BTC, though only a few are chosen to participate depending on their post habits and history; and
  • Just have fun on your stay in this forum! As the biggest repository of information, almost everything is located here with regard to information regarding cryptocurrencies.

Those are some of the tips that I have learned from my entire stay in this forum. Always remind yourself that everything is all about the journey and the destination is just a part of it!

  • The goal is to learn cryptocurrencies. If you push too much on focusing on earning merits, then it will take you a long time to receive one;
Learn about Bitcoin is a first thing to do. Cryptocurrencies are too wide and need more time for learning and learning about Bitcoin is a very good start and it is also because Bitcoin is most important for investment, profit. Altcoins are abundant and they are low quality, useless, scams so don't try to spend time to learn about altcoins first.

-Short replies don’t help — you need to write like you're helping someone.
You were apt on others but that.

Brevity counts, not verbosity, when it hits the point. The important thing to watch out for while making posts on this forum is – let your posts address or solve issues. Be in an ongoing discussion.
And as much as possible, keep your post on topic and of high quality, otherwise it will never be relevant from the eyes of other members. The key here, post when you are highly knowledgeable or even experienced about the topic, but if you’re not, don’t act as if you know it but just skip on it, but learn from it as well.

The forum encourages healthy and productive discussion, so if you’re not capable to make one, better just learn from it but never join the discussion.

That part where you advised that people should contribute only to discussions they're conversant with and not pretend about it if they didn't know anything there, it's a good one. However, sticking to that will be really difficult for members who want to cover many sections of the forum so as to meet up with spreading out their posts so they can get their weekly pay from their various campaigns. At the end, they spam there rather than make meaningful contributions.

What every newbie on this forum might wish that they knew before posting and which they can learn quite fast if they are observation can be summarized in two words quality and originality . These are the two main areas that will keep them on the right path of not breaking the forum rules, they can also encourage members to reward their posts with merit. Never take credit for other people's contents, be original, even if your post is not quality yet but let it be your own idea, there is room for every serious newbie to learn and increase their knowledge. Originality first so you won't break forum rules then quality so that forum members can take your post seriously.

You are right, you need to study any environment before you can freely move in the environment, if you go ahead without studying the environment, you might get somethings wrong in the first place. Most newbies don’t take their time to study the forum well before they start interacting with other members in the forum that is why we newbies mostly make mistakes before we get things right.

Here are 3 things I wish I knew earlier:

-Short replies don’t help — you need to write like you're helping someone.

-Posts in quiet threads may never be seen — post where readers hang out.

-Original thinking matters — don’t copy anything, not even from your own posts.

All what you mentioned are very good suggestions, they can really help you rank up in this forum very fast.

However, consistency is required, you need to be consistent and be active in the forum.
Furthermore, short replies can be very helpful and needful and can be more important than some garbage spam from some spammers; therefore, just know what to write and compose it well.

New forum members don't join this forum to rank up fast or as fastest as possible.

They need to learn, learn as fastest as possible.
They have to contribute to forum community, when they have enough knowledge and experience, their helpfulness in the forum increases naturally and their contribution rises naturally too.

Ranking up comes naturally if they can do those first and most important things: learn and contribute.

I’ve recently made 10+ posts here as a new user, and I realised the forum works differently than typical social media. No likes. No shares. Just merit — and it’s earned, not given.

Here are 3 things I wish I knew earlier:

-Short replies don’t help — you need to write like you're helping someone.

-Posts in quiet threads may never be seen — post where readers hang out.

-Original thinking matters — don’t copy anything, not even from your own posts.

Hope this was helpful to someone

Paddy man

That's the concept behind merit but then again, it's subjective to individuals in the forum. If you take your time to some board like service board, you will see merits given to signature threads, it's just like kind of gesture thumb from users to managers for liking what they do. You also sometimes see merits are being reciprocate like "yea I kind of love what you are doing or love what you said", the thing is make sure you focus on you and give your best, don't try to impress people with more than you can offer.

An additional tip, try and make research about the forum, Bitcoin and many things you see or don't understand but are likely discussed here. There is 100% chance that such discussion is going to happen again or a newbie might ask such questions again, if you make contribution to answer such people, others like merit source and people with huge bank of merits are going to see your contribution and give you merit deserve. Just do youit's not a rocket science.

-Short replies don’t help — you need to write like you're helping someone.
I disagree on this, short replies are always direct and straight to to the point and most forum members prefers short posts, they often carry more quality. Most lengthy post usually discouraging to read through and most times they deviate from the point they are trying to make making it difficult for the audience to understand.

It's true that posts that are too long can discourage many members and prevent them from reading them, but it is also true that shortest ones can go unnoticed, especially if written by newbies.

There is a healthy in-between, not too short nor too long, but in the end everything has more to do with the quality of your ideas rather than with the length of your writings.

When I saw the title "Things I Wish I Knew Before Posting on Bitcointalk" I thought maybe this user might probably be either a year or month old on this forum, but only to be surprised he is just 3days old and yet coming up with a thread like this. Lol... Shah. It's quiet impressive, as he seems to be a quick learner, and I wonder the kind of topic he will come up with when he stays on the forum for a whole full one month.
However, it's nice to know you were able to observe and study the forum so quickly before falling victim to any mistake. And as such, my sincere advice will be to always stick to the Unofficial rules of this forum, which prohibite the use of A.I in post creation, plagiarism and disrespect on this forum. Because if only you can abide by these rules, you will definitely not have any problem while you stay on this forum. Hence, I wish you all the best.

Nice one, when i signed up i used to write length post, as newbies as i continued to learn and read other people posts, i adjusted my writing. The most important thing here is the quality of your post not the length of it, people with short and quality post will have merit on their post while you with length post will not even have a reply from your post.

The only way to grow is to keep reading post from legends, and hero members, at times read from those on same level with you that is getting merits on their posts. We learn from the best, that is what has really help me on this forum.

Here are 3 things I wish I knew earlier:

-Short replies don’t help — you need to write like you're helping someone.

Posting a short line is not supposed to be a big deal as long as it is meaningful. Many people are posting two lines in the forum and are still not criticised because it is meaningful and helpful to the community people, but some newbies are trying to copy the high-rank members by posting short-line posts when their own have no meaning, so sometimes if what you are trying to write can be meaningful with a short line, then I don’t think there is a problem with that, but it needs to be meaningful.

The key here, post when you are highly knowledgeable or even experienced about the topic, but if you’re not, don’t act as if you know it but just skip on it, but learn from it as well.
I see your point there, that is why before trying to engage in a healthy discussion in the forum, familiarize first the different boards and study their list of threads. DYOR if needed because that will open up more valid concepts and insights that will help you out in the forum discussion. With that, spamming will be avoided and you end up contributing well in the discussion.

Well it's not all about making a long sentence without a meaning, a brief of words with some many meaning can get you higher than long sentence without a contribution to the topic,

When you come to a topic no matter how long or short words you were able to contribute try to make pact to the topic, let known that you truly understand what the topic is talking about, and give more sense to the topic and make more people attracted to the topic and let the discussion follow very well, I think that is the most important thing in this forum,so it's not about how long or short your write up is,..

-Short replies don’t help — you need to write like you're helping someone.
You were apt on others but that.

Brevity counts, not verbosity, when it hits the point. The important thing to watch out for while making posts on this forum is – let your posts address or solve issues. Be in an ongoing discussion.
I think that’s how a forum serves its purpose and create more engaging discussions that would benefit one another, not only the forum audience, but also the thread’s starter as well. Yes, brevity counts, that’s how it should be. Let’s just go straight to the details, by using concise and accurate words that would highlight the effectivity of the post, and not making it verbose which turns out unnecessary in the end.

Short replies don’t help, but long replies either will only make the main topic goes round and round, to the point of creating more confusion rather than clarity and effectivity.

Paddy man

Big posts definitely have more sentences, more violence, and these posts are definitely good. But I can't say that small posts are not of quality, where only as much as is necessary is used by unique users. However, small posts contain more summary of the answer, big posts indicate big sentences, and small posts are used in this context.
Especially I see big posts about sports, that is very respectable, but in other places I also see big posts and small posts, so I can't ignore any of them.

Long-form posts are great but don't just ramble like a lot of the people in the Gambling Discussion board do. Nobody is really going to read that. Your content must be interesting to read and actually hold somebody's interest for a few seconds. It should not be something that people just scroll past.

Well that was bad of you to realize too late that the forum is not like one of the social media platforms full of entertainments and the unverifiable (fake) news there.

However, learning processes could be gradual while some may learn by experiences probably their mistakes or others else, I think you did not go through the LINK were you made your first and introductory post in the local board which contains the "Unofficial General Posting Guidelines" as necessary, it would had helped you buildup earlier without being taken unaware about the terms and essence of the forum and the compliances of users.

At all, it is good to know that you latter realized the actual processes but a little advice, don't take reading for granted, make it part of you if you must grow here because it is all about being intellectual with what you have to offer and how you communicate with others.

I believe there's a lot I still need to learn here and most of the time I just to my spare time to go through threads and replys from the various threads I come across. I will read just to learn and not say anything regarding it because I'm still learning. Some said merits are earned and not given, I have come to understand that statement even more.
