About the 120 days merit summary

Somehow being bothering, what is really the essence of the tag on the 120 days data capture of the forums in the merit summary?


Again, as indicated with the arrow on the image below is an indication of total merits earned by users but why can't we also have such quick map indicators that indicates total merits sent and total received in the 120 days without using an external tool or going through the process of counting the merits one after the other not check it? I think it would save some stress if considered an added feature to the merits summary.

There's no need for that. The first question is why will I want to count the merit some one has sent in the last 120 days? So basically take it as it's not a very essential function hence it's not there. You can use any of the forum extensions and the good news is they do not only offer what you are asking but they also are fully open source.

Even if you don't want to embed an extension in your view you can use the tools separately there are a handful of them scattered across the forum. The 120 day history you see is just to show how actively you've been contributing in meaningful discussions.

I don't think that would be an issue if you just use the readily available forum tools and extensions. Members already taught of these in the past, so they had to make alternative for them selfs and for everyone to enjoy. So I don't see the use of this thread..

You talk as if bpip.org were a website created by aliens or enemies of the forum. External tools such as loyce.club, ninjastic.space, and bpip.org are managed by highly reputable forum members. I don't see the need to implement something here that forum members have already done on another website. It's like asking to implement a tool here that would allow images to be uploaded directly, when we already have https://www.talkimg.com/.

The forum isn't going to waste its time on that.

My insights is actually not about trust issues but a short cut to glance over the merit summary. However, I was only at suggestions so if you don't have same point of view like mine, then no problem. We will always go by what is achievable and possible. Your opinion is also considered welcomed.

If we can see the total number of merits earned in the last 120 on this forum just as the total merit is shown on the image the OP posted, it will be a very good thing.

Just use the BPIP.org extension. It does all that you need to see but if you hate BPIP.org extension and all those external tools for some reason, then you are going to have to do it the manual way

This. Today I don't need to go there to count my sent/received merits considering I've been in a hiatus and most of it was cleared up, before this was my go-to site if ever I needed it. I have it installed before but after I hard reset my PC I totally forgotten it, will check and install it once again. Thanks!

I think it's doable and possible but I don't think it's much needed right now. For what purpose? It's not like we have to do a daily POA or submit an application. lol

If not for a signature campaign that most of us often use to know how many merit we have earned in 120 days, do you think it's a responsibility of the forum to demand this from us, the summary is there, we can use it for anything we may have it applicable for our personal use, which includes the signature campaign we enroll, while the forum don't not demand this from us as a requirement for any application or acheivement, whereas the tool bpip.org is there to have the summary.

I agree. Although the forum doesn't have an automated system to count your recent merit, which is something that could have been done, there are tools created for this purpose. Personally, the Bpip.org website is saved on the landing page of my Chrome's browser, I can check whatever I want with a simple click of a button. I don't find it such a big deal, and Bpip has various statistics that the not only the Bitcointalk forum wouldn't provide if it was more advanced, just how the OP suggested, no kind of forum would. It's a website that specializes in showing your account statistics.

What's the use of knowing the total number of merits you've received in the last 120 days? Nothing, other than some campaign managers asking for it in their campaign applications, and in that case, you can easily find that figure by going to bpip.org as stated by others above. The forum has much more important things and updates to work on and implement, and I also don't think this is as necessary, although I wouldn't say that it's a bad idea, but it's not necessary, to be precise.

I would say, far better than implementing this would be to have the option to check the merit stats for other periods, such as the last 7 days, 30 days, 60 days, etc. But as I said, these things are only for convenience and could be implemented if there is absolutely nothing else for the admin or coders like @PowerGlove to do, otherwise, these are unnecessary updates.

It take a sum of forum resources when it is accessed that might results to server overload, i guess theymos have mentioned this way way back.

And you don't know? This is related to the conditions of the managers when applying for participation in the signature campaign (the total number of merits for the last 120 days). Some users seem to be too lazy to use 3rd-party services like bpip.org to count (or count manually).

How actively you were noticed in discussions, because merits are awarded by 3rd-party users, on whose subjective assessment the result depends.

The stats option was disabled by Theymos as a result of the DDOS attack of 2017

The reason is that they were disabled after the DDoS attack in 2017. Check this thread  User stats are disabled?

I might've figured it out. A bunch of things are currently disabled; I'll work on safely enabling them in the coming days.

On the need for merit summary, I believe its not really a priority since most times
We seek such knowledge as a result of applying for campaigns.
Though an hassle, there are tools that already helps with this as has been shared in this thread.

I think this was my first take on this thread when I saw the complaint of the Op, although I can relate to why the Op is saying this which is because not every users has that time (lazy) to use the extension tools but the reality is a vast majority of the forum members are actively using the extra handy tools to get their desired satisfaction so why is the need to add it when a small portion of users if not only you is complain about such.  It is fine to complain if you aren't aware of such tools but knowing fully well the purpose for the creation of these handy tools and yet still demand and easier approach is exactly what is called the laziness users are referring to.

Don't use userscipt does not mean they are lazy.

Reasons can be different like they don't know how to use userscripts or they concern about security by don't understanding well about userscripts or just want to calculate their merit in 120 days manually.

There are extensions but with diversifying reasons, not all forum members choose extensions to use.

Websites from BPIP and Ninjastic.space give people more easier tools to use without any technical steps.

We can always make use of the bpip in getting our merit summary and other data we may needed from the summary of merits received, which is even more better than if we assume the forum should make a summary for us for only about merits received in 120 days, what about 30 or 150 days as we may needed it, should the forum also be responsible other stats, this is about our own individual quest for using these numbers for merit in pursuing after something that may be of benefits to us, there are also stats like the favorites profiles you received merits form and the likes in using bpip, aside the overall summary of a user account it can give while using it to check a profile summary.
