According to World Bank, over 139 million people are still living in poverty, here in Nigeria. On paper, the Federal Government is currently celebrating the achievement of their goals. The increase in GDP, and the reduction in prices of a few commodity goods, but in reality the economic reforms have driven more people into abject poverty. According to research, children around age 0-14 years have poverty rates of over 72.5%. Those without formal education have poverty rates of over 80%. In terms of region, the northern geographical zones face far much worse lack of income than the southern ones.
Inflation is very high, especially inflation of food items. The cost of living don dey destroy the living. The continuous insecurities make it difficult for people to work or produce food.
With every new reform tailored towards growth and development of our country, the poor seem to pay a higher price way too often, as it comes with little hope and alot more hardship. How long do you think Nigeria will keep reforming without truly transforming the lives of it's people? And what can be done differently this time around?
