There was a time in my life when I was very active in sports betting and I was doing very well, so well that I'm in a significant profit against the sportsbook but I gave up on it because soon I had to enter the university and I didn't have time to watch sports events.
To my mind and from my experience, key to success is to be occupied with sports all the time. I was mostly betting on soccer and I was successful because I was watching every soccer match, I was reading every news that was published on soccer clubs. I was doing a deep analysis of how matches ended between two opponent teams in the past, where the match is planned for the upcoming day, how each team performs at home and outside, is there a beef between these two teams and etc.
