Losing by half a point or one basket, should we just treat it like a normal loss

What do you guys think, how do you personally handle those “almost” covers? Do you just shrug it off, or does it still mess with your mood for a while?

This kind of near misses opportunity can be heart broken on us, because that slightly point could be the only reason to missed the entire winning opportunity and that alone can't be overlooked, but there's nothing we can do to prevent such from happening, in life, we all live to gamble with either the expectation of winning or losing and once it comes, we take it as it is, but at a close range like this could be more perplexed to us.

But we have to accept that its part of the game, maybe we don't expect too much so if our expectation will not happen it will not hurt us.
We will experience this from time to time, but we don't get use to it already. and honestly, its one of the reasons why sometimes we get more aggressive and not noticing we already loss our discipline in sports betting, which, by the way we know what the ending is.

Some near missed hurts more than others especially those that can be attributed to be carelessness and could've been avoided. I've played a game going nicely into the 90th minute and I had a cash out that was almost the whole pot. Winning but I ignored the inner voice, only for an equalizer to come in the very last minute of added time. It hurt more that I could've saved the day by just clicking a button, but unnecessary over confidence denied me a good win. Normally I do brush it off but knowing that I could've won a good amount of I clicked just a button 3 minutes earlier hurt me so much.

Unfortunately, this happens a lot. The feeling that the team could have won, a goal disallowed, a legitimate penalty not awarded, all of these give me that feeling. But there's nothing I can do; I just accept it and move on.

This is main mind problem in betting, near miss effect, in which we feel bad because we lost by such little amount due to fact that we are focused on difference other than loss itself. In order to keep control, you have to treat small loss as big one because loss is loss. This is dealt with by good bettors who only focus on their good betting plan and not bad result because they know that near miss only serves to show that they have good guess even though they had bad luck. Main point is to take loss and go forward as soon as possible and maybe have rest so as to stop bad feeling leading to careless betting in future. Only thing to do is to not worry about such close calls and save your money in long time.

Yes, you are right. We must learn to move on quickly with these kinds of incidents because they can be frustrating and can become nightmares for us. It happened to me many times, and I think I have shared a lot of those kinds of tickets in the NBA betting thread.

It's still lost, and we cannot do anything about it. The other frustrating part is when you are picking spreads. Let's say you took -2.5 and the team you bet for won, but by only two points. That sucks. You will tell yourself that you should've just bet on the moneyline instead of getting greedy for a higher amount to win.

Right now, when I do place a bet, I usually say to myself "This is a lose bet" so I wouldn't expect much, but if it wins then it's a good feeling.

That is how gambling is meant to be because is a game that luck plays a significant role in determining the final outcome. Honestly, any gambler that normally follow this step when gambling would definitely be free from much stress because it is only when your bet is green that you would see it as your own, without it is totally not yours. Loss is a loss no matter how close it is, just treat it that way, considering that you missed it by a very little margin isn't going to change things so why should we beat ourselves over something that we can't change. To be honest, that is the most painful loss you will have in a bet. Specially when you are watching the game .
Imaging that intense? a pin in the heart and a pocket aching. I just want the game with 10+ deficit and accept the game than watching it intensely and ended up nothing

I feel you, bro. That’s why sometimes I’d rather not watch the game, especially if I have a big bet riding on it. I don’t wanna waste my emotions if it goes the other way. It’s easier to accept losses on moneyline bets since it’s just about who wins, but with spreads? Man, it’s tough. Imagine your team wins, but just one point short of covering the spread, that really sucks. I’ve experienced that so many times, both in the NBA and even in the PBA.

I will still choose to watch brother, that is the feeling we always want. those head to head win from our favorite teams with a good amount to win from betting is really something that can give us absolute fun from watching sports and betting at the same time. Those bets with close games and nerve breaking shots, wow I can still see the jump i made and hear the scream i did.

Well I can still remember the PArlay with 10 USD and winning a massive500 USD with 9 team on the line (NBA)
I wond the 8 games shoot on my bet but Jokic and the Denver still playing with -7.5 on the line..
It was a 6 points lead of Denver with 7 seconds on the clock and i hotught it was a sports game and i lose the bet.
but jokic took the pass and make a turn around shot while the opponent  give him a foul . The joke made the 2 FT and made the lead at 8   I WON

I think by tapping my chest and saying "you can do it next time" lol. I think just shrug it off, you can't control or reverse the outcome anyways. It really got me sometimes like regretting it like I should have get that other spread or the low odds or should have bet on the other team/player, but that's just gambling.

Regretting Is really of no use because there's no way you could have known that the other spread you didn't pick would turn out to be the outcome, that's just how gambling works, the expected outcome doesnt always happen. Like you said, it's not possible to control the outcome. Personally, I don't even encourage myself that to try again, I simply go on a break for a short or long period of time

I think this is something we bettors should train ourselves on mentally. Whether you lose by 0.5 or by 20 points, the ticket still ends the same. If we keep letting those close ones get into our heads, frustration builds up, and that’s usually when bad decisions follow.. chasing, doubling down, emotional betting.

It's a familiar feeling, but I mostly experience it when my "beautiful" multi-bet with high odds is ruined by some outcome that I added just for a boost, and the odds for this outcome are around 1.10. It looks exactly like you were close but lost "accidentally". I prefer when the main outcomes (with fat odds of 2+) lose than such unpleasant situations. Of course, I try to forget about it right away, but naturally such defeats are remembered and until some time (and other bets) passes, I remember about them.

Near miss hurts more than losing more point beyond normal but then my people usually say, nearly can never kill a bird, as long as it didn’t hit it never did and we shouldn’t kick ourselves too hard for that because we didn’t get it but however, if we ever loss at a very slit point when we have the cash out button then I know that is pure greed on the bettors side because at some point losses can be mitigated with cash out that’s why it’s provided.

Even though we are going to accept it's a loss eventually, but it will hurt at that initial time. Unless it's a robot that doesn't have feeling that won't feel the pain and reflect on it for a while. We are humans and we have feelings. At that point all what will be going through your head will be what you would have done with the money you were so close to winning. If I lose a bet by a higher margin I don't feel it, but if it's a close margin like one game cutting it, I feel terrible for a moment and that's it.

First of all, as a gambler you must learn to accept your losses, in that way you will gain more peace of mind that ever. Every gamblers is liable to lose their bets. None of the gamblers is exempted. As a matter of fact, sometimes you lose and sometimes you win. Gamble is just another game of fun which I believe everyone already knows. And it's common these days that losing is more often than winning. It only takes luck to win a bet, that is why some gamblers mostly gets more of near miss.

This is one reason why it is important to be emotionally stable and matured when it involves you using your resources and funds to try to better your luck, because sometimes it ends in misery and mood distortion that nothing ever makes sense all through the day.

Emotional maturity is more or less risk management practices and it should be mastered if one is to ever win big in gambling mostly when it comes to near misses.

I always try to stay calm and exit the game or bet another if I still feel there's a good chance of winning that day, but once I start chasing losses, I quit for the day.

This absolutely sting, yet the way to go about it is to accept it just like other loss. The moment you realize the almost winning, that still means losing, it gets easier to move on. Remaining on it or pursuing immediately after normally ends up in a worse decisions.

It’s frustrating AF especially if the last points made were already unnecessary. I experienced this on NBA when I bet on a huge point spread handicap.

Normally team enter their bench player on the last remaining time until the game clock was zero. On a blowout game bench player usually performs like a wild dogs with the pure intent of attacking without zero hesitation since it’s already a no bearing play.

The problem is some bench player just keep scoring even though the clock is already near to zero instead of just dribble out the game that cause an additional points and destroy a point spread bet.

This is so painful but I deal with it by a taking a break from sports betting for a long period of time.

That is all we can easily do because you have no option than move sometimes most gamblers find it very difficult to accept any outcome that might comes out along the line knowing fully well that you can not afford to anything after the results. However the earlier we gamblers take any outcome freely better for us because is not our power to decide.

Whether it's a minor or major point, it's still a loss; we have to take it as it is and move forward. Nothing can change the outcome, and it will only frustrate us more if we keep thinking of the outcome.
When betting on a game, we have to accept the outcome. Things like this happen. There are game-winning buzzer beaters, and it's part of the game. It hurts because it's almost a win until it happens in the dying seconds.
In sports betting, you can only be sure until the buzzer that ends the game.

There’s nothing to handle, the result is “almost” which means you made the right decision(either with the spread or not) it just didn’t come out right which is normal..
Those loss could actually give us some better way to make predictions in our next selections  but sometimes , i personally don’t regard it that much so far i'm confident init, the loss was just inevitable..
I don’t miss the cashouts for sports betting btw so maybe i can’t relate very well
