We as sports fans, maybe we all started as a kid, maybe dream of playing in big league in soccer. However, not everyone can be in sports so the next big thing is become a fan of it and follow it will all our hearts in emotions.

However, do you agree that it can also lead to gambling problems later on in life as we're going to bet on the sports that we follow. Like small bets in the beginning and then later on we become so addicted to it?

What I think is that most bettors where already used to different sports before they even thought of sports betting, like me for instance, I've been a fan to a particular football club before I even thought of gambling although there are people who ain't like me but they later picked interest in sporting activities to aid them in gambling better, however it doesn't me we'll eventually become addicted because of it well some will if they don't learn to gamble responsibly, the problem is not with gambling but reckless gambling.

I think that if people place bets on the games they watch or on the team they support, it won’t lead to addiction. After all, these aren’t systematic bets, it’s more about supporting their team and buying a bit of extra excitement from the game.By placing bets on the teams we support, we’re essentially paying for the emotions we’ll experience, the game feels completely different when there’s a financial stake involved. I don't agree with this. I know a lot of people and groups that into sports but not participating in any gambling, some are already happy watching and discussing it with other people or group of people, so even they don't gamble they already enjoying.

For me, gambling on sports that you are into is just a another level of excitement and enjoyment, so it's just a bonus for me.

I don't think sports betting is the way that people get into sports. Most of the newbie sports lovers I know don't gamble (at least for now). Before betting got to this level of popularity, fans watched football matches without attaching bet into it, like most of our fathers back then. We saw some of our fathers liking sports like football, wrestling, boxing, tennis, basketball etc, they get stationed to their television with their family watching these sports mentioned above. Then betting wasn't very popular like it is today but the older generation still had strong passion for the games.

I think things just changed with the Gen Z world and since COVID-19, online businesses sky rocketed in popularity and sports betting too have grown, creating such awareness not particularly that it sports betting that has lured people into sports.

Advertisement and awareness created by the media and most people are now on social media especially the younger generation. So if you ask me, I can suggest social media hype to be part of the reason sports affiliation have grown.

I think sports betting can only involve people into try sports, but people will be very selective. They can try football because it is easy to buy a ball and start kicking it. But they do ice hockey just because they bet, or tennis, because you need a court.

I don't think people would be involved with sports betting if they don't know what they are betting on. Usually, the first time you deal with sports betting is if you know the sport. I think it seldom happens the other way around.

I don't think it will lead to gambling problems if you know what you are doing. It's most likely that it would be the other way around. More often than not, it's the persons character that dictate if the person is susceptible to gambling or not.

I don't think sports betting is actually the reason why people get involved in sports but to some extent it can have a bit of influence on a person to develop interest in sports. Although mostly people participate and bet on sports they already have idea about, because when you bet on sports u don't know anything about your chances of winning will be slim.  If you know nothing about a sport and bet on it frequently even if you're losing you be knowing more about it.

I am a fan of soccer and had the dream of playing at professional level so betting on soccer games are easy for me but as I engage in sports betting more I now understand Basketball and Tennis better even though I started without knowing much about them.

I agree it can be addictive without self control so whatever you do you just have to limit yourself and control how you engage in it even as a fan of the sport.

I think it's the other way around, those who start getting into sports, like watching matches, try to make predictions about the matches, and when they think they're good at making predictions, they try to place bets. But if you watch sports simply because you're betting, I don't think it works that way. If you lose, that'll actually lead to you associating watching sports with losing, and that'll also be a turnoff.

None of us can say whether a person or gambler will be addicted to gambling or not, it depends on the personality of that person. There are many people who are involved in sports and play sports regularly but they do not gamble or are not addicted to gambling. On the other hand, there are many people who do not play sports and are connected to sports only for gambling and they are addicted to gambling.

That's why I don't think gambling or sports betting can ever make a person interested in sports. It might just encourage them to get updates about sports, but it won't make them play the sports they want.

Sport betting is sport betting, football player is football player, football fan is football fan. That`s all.
Playing football or being football fan can help in sport betting. But it doesn`t work in another way. If you know the odds, league tables - you wouldn`t play football. You may become a fan of some team while it brings you profit, or while you bet on it, but not more.
If you want to play football - just do it. If you want your kids play football - play with them. If you want make them fans - go on the stadium.

That’s the problem when we get too biased, we stop treating sports betting the right way.

When we place a bet, it shouldn’t be based on emotion, but on how good the team actually is.

It's not etch in stone in my opinion. There are people that I know that love sports but don't gamble. But majority could be that once they hit the right age that they can gamble, the first time that they will go is the obvious sports that they love. But it doesn't mean that they are going to be addict or what. Not to be judgmental, maybe they just love that sport and bet on their teams and watch the fight with friends on TV or even at home with bbq and drinks. So yeah, you could involved yourself in sports but not necessarily involved in gambling in some case.
