Why do we usually end up losing more when we start chasing our losses?

It depends, it's pride if you can't admit defeat and you want to prove that you can win your losses back or restore your confidence and greed if you want to get your money back or earn more even if losing. In short pride fuels your emotion that you need to win it back and greed is when you think you can turn it around and make a come back, both are not good in gambling as its driven by emotion, and we all experience this and been through here and the results is always losing.

Some of us have trouble controlling our emotions since most of the time we are not aware that our emotions are taking control over us.

I think the answer to your question is greediness or high expectations and sometimes it can be the act of gambling as if your whole life depends on it, seeing gambling as an excape route from poverty, and not pride. All this things I mentioned are what makes a gambler keep losing when they begin chasing after loses. Because they are not yet certified with what they have, but always aiming higher even when they know that what they sick is difficult To achieve, expecialy when they begin chasing loses with high odd in expectations to Wing huge.

I think it’s because we’re stupid, honestly.

You have already said it all, the moment we start letting our emotions decide how we gamble then we have already started losing all our bets, this is because strategy has been thrown out the window and we are no longer even playing to win we are playing to prove a point so in order to prevent this we should endeavour to always keep our emotions in check when ever we gamble to ensure that we don't end up losing everything, strategy always beats emotions.

I think when frustration and pride kicks in wanting to win it back just to feel in control again but the more we chase the more we dig ourselves deeper. Yeah, we might understand that, but it’s different when you’re really aiming to win. That’s the reality, it’s not impossible to win, so in our minds we stay optimistic, thinking we’re part of the winners even if most people lose. But sometimes that optimism turns unrealistic, especially when the strategy we’re using isn’t the right one. You can tell something’s off when emotions start taking over logic.

It is because the games are designed that way. There is that thing called “house edge” and its job is to protect the profits of the casinos. We forget that losing money can make us forget about the limitations that we set before. We want our money back and by continuing to play, we will get it. It's more of a psychological factor. It sucks to lose in general, but it sucks even more when money is involved. Some people just can't control the urge to win it back and overestimate their chances of winning, when in reality, it's just wishful thinking. There are others who actually get lucky, and this is also something that people tend to rely on.

The main reason why we continue to chase loses when we're not winning is desperation and hope, when you are continuously losing you want to recover it all and you have the believe that it will happen. What do you mean by we? I don't chase losses because I understand perfectly that once you chase your losses you will always lose more, this happened to me once and I never repeated the same thing again.

The error begins with risking what you can't afford to lose, if you find a way to avoid risking money you aren't ready to lose there will never be any reason to chase your losses, this is something I learn about very fast and I started risking small amount of money, most of my gambling session always end in losses but it was expected and I don't see any need to chase after the losses, they are too little to even get me worried or sad about.

Someone chasing losses will never be able to breakeven that easily and miraculously win jackpot. I believe if we are destined to win we will able to get that since gambling is a game of luck most of the time. Yeah there's some sort of strategy but thats a calculated risk with certain profits potential based on our funds. But lifechanging money is won via raffle or big lucky break.

You said it yourself that once emotions take over in most cases is game over. In fact even when I was not feeling anything, I played the same game over and over again, was expecting different results which is called insanity as the same results happened again that made me lose after I was winning big. The pride then takes over and one deposit leads to another which in the end led to the casino sending me an email no more deposits for today, take a moment for yourself. It was that moment that made reflect a lot and said to myself what the f*ck am I doing with my life and decided to stop and follow loses again. I feel good now that I don't chase them anymore.
