I have read through different reports regarding the ugly incident that occurred between the FCT minister Wike and the soldier, i have also seen different peoples reactions on the news and various platforms and majority of people are of the opinion that Wike was entirely wrong without putting other things into consideration.
First we should understand that both Wike and the soldier are both serving this country, the soldier is serving Nigeria in the military but we should also understand that wike is also serving Nigeria in his own jurisdiction as a minister, as a matter of fact he is not just a minister but the FCT minister, what this implies is that he is in charge of anything happening in Abuja and only answers to the president, i wasn’t present during the incident but from the video you will hear Wike making claims that the land wasn’t acquired legally which i feel was the reason he really wanted them not to work on it, yes the military should be respected but doesn’t mean if they have acquired a land unjustly that they should not be confronted and asked for the necessary documents, another thing i deduced from wike provocation was that maybe he might have called the Naval general that owns the land but they didn’t come to a good resolve and instead the general sent his boys to guide the place, thinking that Wike will be scared, anyone in such a scenario won’t be happy especially when he/she thinks someone else is trying to oppress him in his jurisdiction, maybe that would have instigated his anger, though it’s just my assumption, so i will advise everyone to look keenly before making conclusions on this subject, Wike on his part is also a bit correct because if he doesn’t stand his ground the military will feel they don’t need to come through due process, that they could just acquire any land, we have heard of stories of such in the past where they grab lands forcefully and use military might to oppress the owners, you know lots of big men that have handled different positions before are leaving in Abuja, hence you need a man that is fearless to be able to look them in the face and tell them that this is wrong, the only place i fault Wike is his approach towards the soldier, he would have just made his point clear that this land is illegally acquired and then call the necessary authorities without having a direct confrontation with the soldier that was there, the soldier isn’t the owner of the land he was just doing his job so to me Wike would have just made his point and call the owner of the land instead and also call other authorities, so as to resolve the case through due process.
Let’s not over flame this issue, instead let’s learn from it, stand on your right and integrity when necessary but do that within the scope of the law and also respect other peoples jurisdiction, thanks.
