Whatever maybe the cases just only use what you think is okay for you to lose, but then I would say you should go clear your loans before you could start your investment in bitcoin, look you must understand it is too volatile and very risky to deal with, especially when you would want to diversify by  investing in other coin that is not bitcoin then you have worsen the case, so for me is better you uses 10-20 percent for DCA'ing then it would help you get more accumulate than buy once at a go.

Accumulating with the DCA method is the most appropriate step for long-term investing. However, for investing, I only recommend using discretionary income because it's much safer, especially with Bitcoin, whose price is quite volatile. This allows us to avoid panicking when corrections occur and to remain consistent in our long-term investments without undue fear.
If we use other funds, I believe the investment will have negative consequences in the future, so proper money management is crucial before deciding to invest.

As a young professional you have to make that decision for yourself, your lifestyle is different from the person that you are asking for advice. From my research I know that Bitcoin investment is a secondary need and you have to use small amount that will not be a burden to you in buying it.

The percentage to buy Bitcoin with from the money you make will depend on the importance that you place on your essential needs. If you don't have many financial responsibilities you can increase the percentage to buy Bitcoin.
This is actually good with what you've said.

My situation differs from OP and a small amount from him, could be big for me. And the risk that I'm saying that's bearable could be big for him.

That's why it really depends on his situation and whichever suits him that he's going to have a problem at all, that's what he has to do.

Small amounts that are not forced him to invest to Bitcoin and can still live a normal life as a young professional.

Starting to invest with a bigger amount of capital may be a smart decision as it may also yield higher returns, but it also comes with higher risk of losing especially that you are still in the learning phase. My advice is, start with a small amount of capital at first, and once it profit, you can start to adjust your capital a little bit more, and at the same time set aside some of your profits to pay your debt. Investing while thinking of your unpaid debt is quite a distraction, as you may start overthinking what if you lose from your investment, you could have paid your debt if you never invest your capital.

This is the reason why you need to invest using your extra income, that is not allocated to pay your bills or your debt. Otherwise, you will feel the pressure between your investment and your current debt.

I experienced the same around 2017, although with different numbers but with the same underlying panic on whether the systems we inherited are still working. That is what Bitcoin is to many of us at our age: a bet against institutional failure, not only inflation.

That 30 per cent is already aggressive on normal standards, and that normal standards had assumed that all pension systems that work, housing markets that clear, currencies managed by competent central banks. I do not know whether or not those assumptions are true anymore. The QE infinity problem is real. In 2020-2021, we printed more money than there was in 2008 and we are all pretending that there are no consequences.

That being said, I would reason in another way: time is your greatest resource. When you earn that kind of income at 22, a complete Bitcoin crash will not hurt you, and still retire comfortably. That's rare. The majority of Bitcoin buyers are spending money that is relevant to their survival. You're not, which paradoxically means you can take the bet more seriously.

My instinct: keep the 30%, kill the student debt for psychological clarity and focus on the fact that your income trajectory matters infinitely more than asset allocation right now.

If you can save that much, then I am pretty sure anything could happen. Because even at minimum wage, if you can save 550 at bitcoin, after 10 years you will be able to buy a whole house, and if you act quicker you could literally just use the 20% method for getting loan at a bank to buy the house with a 30 year mortgage and then keep doing this until you have enough houses. Why do people do not do this?

Because even at young age, they can't save 50% and that is the issue, and many who could possibly do this, can't wait that long and that's their issue, only a small part can wait and can earn that much and that is who make this decision. I am sure of what's going to happen, and it will work for the long term.

This is a good advise mate, for him to take a good decision that will favour him with any amount of money he can afford to lose in BTC investment. Even though he want to use the emergency money to invest in BTC in this current price, it will lead him to a great opportunity in the future that will make his BTC to multiple to bring out plenty profit in the bull run. If you listen to the guy very well, you will know that he is a newbie, because is only newbie that will asked that kind of question, when you know you are working to earn salary weekly or monthly, because any amount of money he want to accumulate BTC will surely work out for his favour.

Since, he is not depending on BTC investment only, which he can still be earning salary from his place of work to continue hodling his BTC for 4 years before he can sell to earn plenty profits.

It is not someone else who needs to tell you the amount you can invest in Bitcoin. It is you yourself who knows the amount you can afford to lose, because we are advised to invest only the amount we can afford to lose, despite having proven to be a great investment over some periods, still carries risk.

Another thing is that you are the only one who knows your discretionary income. From your calculations, I don’t think you included all your needs. There are some necessary expenses that you didn’t calculate, but you must consider them. Only after those needs are covered will you know your true discretionary income. If you think you have enough discretionary income, you can invest the amount you can spare in Bitcoin. If possible, you can even invest up to 90% of your discretionary income.

If you are looking for a long-term investment, then it is a good idea to invest a portion of your discretionary income in Bitcoin. There are many people who want to invest in Bitcoin, but they have lost money in Bitcoin investment due to lack of proper planning. If you start accumulating Bitcoin from the age of 22, then you will definitely be able to make a lot of profit from Bitcoin after a long time. I think if you keep most of your discretionary income only for Bitcoin investment, then you will be the most profitable investors. Considering the debt and risk, if some part is invested for the long term now, then it is possible to build a large portfolio of Bitcoin.

I am currently 22 about to start my first real job in HCOL. I am wondering what % of my discretionary income I should allocate to HODL BTC vs traditional ETFs, bonds, stocks. The only debt I have is about 19k in student loans. Currently have a 10k emergency fund, and 27k in my brokerage. Income first year is 240k, and after that its about 190k recurring until I get promoted in a couple of years.

In my brokerage, I allocate 30/70 between BTC and traditional investments, but with QE and lowering rates, I am concerned about inflation and want to hedge with a higher BTC allocation.

I would keep around 20% of my portfolio in Bitcoin. Considering your young age, I would also add around 5% in altcoins. I would focus on major ones only. Furthermore, I wouldn't neglect to add plenty of silver and some gold.

I see you've a lot at hand, I wouldn't have to go through mathematically analysis with all you've outlined here.
To get straight to the point, you should only Invest on bitcoin with what you can afford to overlook during a hard time either economically or when bitcoin market is going tough over high liquidity when whalers and traders are selling massively which drops the bitcoin price down affecting hodlers portfolios and causes Fomo amongst investors over short term trends.
It's well advice to invest with discretionary incomes. So after your expenses you should know how much you can afford for this investment journey. I honestly wouldn't want to be specific because I don't know about your risk tolerance as well.

It is important to calculate your expenses more carefully because you can't leave them to start an investment. But paying your student loans first is the important thing so you know how much money you have. If you can use your funds in your brokerage, that will finish your loans so you can focus on your expenses by calculating them.
Yeah, he acknowledge it but he only need some help. He already know how much money he have and I think it is not hard to minus his expensed for it. Loans are a pain in the head, so yeah that it is important to clear them first, so that we can focus on our real interest. OP has two sources of fund. One is brokerage and the other is emergency. You are right, that it is better if the brokerage is the one he must use because emergency funds says its name. It should be only use for a more important or emergency situation.

Before anyone should think about going into investing he should first of all sit down and know how much he is receiving, bring into account his monthly expenses and also don't forget about saving too before you can be talking about investing. You have to make sure that some certain criterias are fulfilled before talking about investing into any business. This is the reason why financial experts will advice people to always use their discretionary funds in investing.

Because discretionary funds are funds that are not budgeted for, so that it doesn't affect your day to day activities, planning is key in the process of trying to set up an investment plan because if you don't plan before investing, you are likely to hit the rock on the long run.
If you are earning then you can start considering investing in Bitcoin, just invest in Bitcoin after you have settled your personal needs and keeps some for any emergency then you can get Bitcoin with what ever you have left no matter how little.
OP is young at 22 so with little investment and he giving himself a long term investment plan he will definitely rip the reward in the future but all that will be possible if only he can remain consistent.

In my opinion, his financial management is still chaotic, and indeed, the debt must be settled immediately. This will allow us to be more relaxed in managing our money when we don't have any liabilities or debts.

He must have the right approach to managing money, navigating expenses first before discussing other matters such as basic needs (living expenses), secondary or tertiary needs, which also need to be navigated, then calculate on a monthly basis. When looking at the amount, it will be clear how much money must be spent each month, and that must be prepared in advance. Then, create a reserve fund of 4x or more of his income to maintain his long-term financial condition when he can no longer work (due to being fired, etc.). Once everything is clear, he can use the money he has and set aside cash for unexpected needs.

From there, create an investment scenario. There are short-term and long-term options if you want to use them, and then move on to asset types, such as Bitcoin, property, gold, or others as a form of asset diversification. The percentage is subjective, but since you are still young, unmarried, and have no dependents to support, you should be more aggressive in your investments, such as 50% in Bitcoin and the rest in alternatives such as gold or altcoins.

Using BTC as a hedge doesn't seem right to me. Although I also invest quite a lot in bitcoin, I prefer to say that bitcoin is high risk but also has high potential in the future. So, as it falls into the high-risk asset category, I don't really like to refer to it as a hedge. Gold might be more accurately described as a hedge against inflation. However, with all its volatility, Bitcoin is more accurately described as an investment with its own risks.

Therefore, in this case, you also have to start thinking about a more appropriate allocation. First, you have to budget your finances for several things, such as savings (must be in assets that are not affected by inflation, such as gold), reserve funds (emergency funds can be in the form of fiat), and long-term investments (BTC, property/real estate). Once you start allocating your funds according to the portions you have, then you can decide what percentage to put into Bitcoin and what percentage into other assets. Remember, diversification is always better, in my opinion.

And remember, this allocation should also be done after you have finished allocating funds for your daily life.

Investing a lot of your discretionary income into Bitcoin only is not a good idea, because we should never put all our eggs in one basket, that's a bad way to keep them because if the basket breaks, we lose all the eggs, and even though we trust Bitcoin and believe that it has the potential to just keep growing in value over time, it's still better to diversify your investment portfolio into multiple areas so that if one of the investments don't get you desired results, the other might do that, so it's better to invest in different things instead of just one.

OP is still pretty young, 22 is not an age where one should be worried much about what they should do with their life, because he has a lot of time ahead of him and he can plan accordingly and he should take his time, explore different markets, learn about them, gather as much knowledge as he can, and then he should decide what he should do with the money he is making, because it's important for an investor to have knowledge about the areas where they are investing their money, because investments done without knowledge or research usually don't end well.

You are free to allot more in BTC if that's the sole plan you have. But is this not going to hurt your other allocation and expenses if you do so OP? Because there are a lot of young professionals and working folks that have been allocating a part of their salary to buy bitcoin. But in the end, they can't be consistent with it and that's because of the things that they have to attend first before spending it to the likes of any asset and investment like Bitcoin. You're young and free, you can do that if you have no obligation and there is nothing we can do with the inflation but to do the necessary thing like investing more instead of keeping it in cash.
