Aahh Japan. World’s biggest financial problem. No matter how much viagra the government mix into their food, those pandas always refuse to make kids for some reason. Now they want to stimulate them pandas even further? Gubbermint is distributing free munney buy something you fools. Make kids, have fun. Go to USA watch the world cup, best place to use your stimulation package. Stop being so grim. Life is gud. Work work work, you call that life?  Work can wait. These people are so smart, their smarts are actually working against them. C’mon spend and let the inflation flow. Mfing pandas what makes you think you are better than the rest of the world?

Hey mindrust, I thought pandas where endemic to China, not Japan Tongue

Although I respect their culture, I think that your comment is quite appropriate. Yes, I really miss a greater work ethic in my country (Spain is known as the country of the "pandereta" -tambourine- for some reason...) but the case of Japan is extreme. Like you said, they're so smart that it seems they lost focus on what is really important in life, like starting a family or enjoying simple contemplation.

Extremes are not good, and practical examples like Japan's exemplify it very well. Their latest greatest export to the world, the "Single's Day", should be taken as a warning. (Oh no! I just searched it and it's native to China, again... Never mind, the underlying idea is still valid).

I visit Spain almost every year. I like it a lot. Mostly the Catalunya areas though. Haven’t been to the other parts yet but maybe one day… Spain, Turkey, Greece, Portugal, Italy suffer from the mirror opposite problem Japan has. We don’t want to work, we are mostly lazy and want to spend everything we got to have fun. It is no surprise that Mediterranean countries share mostly the same characteristics.

And the panda thing, I am no panda expert but I always thought pandas were mostly a japan thing.

Anyway as long as they keep drawing them mangas and animes, Japan is all good. Sometimes they act weird but they are polite and honest. They go full yakuza on you only if you scam them.

I would say it's mostly cultural. We need to find the middle ground on this, which Germany has. Japan works a lot, they shouldn't work this much, they work so much that they have depression problem from working this much and that is not an ok situation at all. The nations you count do not have working problem, they have lazy problem and we shouldn't really do that neither.

So we need something in the middle, not work as hard as Japanese, but not lazy as those nations, which is basically Germany. Germans do work when it's time to work, but the moment work ends, they don't work a minute more, don't get me wrong when it's time to work, they are the best workers in the world, but the moment work ends, they have fun like no other.

This package will obviously increase long-term debt risks. These are short-term structural reforms. It already appears to have negatively impacted the yen price and government bonds. As we know, Japan's foreign debt was a truly bold move at the top of the world.

It might be beneficial for a year or two, but it won't definitively solve Japan's economic problems.

I see they keep slapping pieces of duct tape on the ever widening hole in the ship. This time it will fix it for real guys I promise!

The one thing which might help them in the near term is the hordes of tourists. Last year they had like 34 million, which was their best year since COVID. Yet you see so many of them and their politicians complaining about too many tourists everywhere. Brother please! You have to lean into this and be grateful that these people come to pour money into your economy, just because they think your country is cool and pretty. Monetize this as much as possible. Turn the country into a huge theme park if you have to!

spot on with the why question this stimulus feels like a bandaid on a sinking ship japan been fighting deflation forever and now inflation ticking up theyre panicking to get people spending instead of saving every yen their culture is all about work and hoard but with birth rates tanking and exports dropping they gotta juice the economy or face a real slowdown the handouts are tiny like 20 bucks in rice vouchers lol but the big picture is subsidies on energy and gas to keep things moving without spiking inflation more i doubt itll fix the debt monster tho just delays the pain

been following japans econ mess for years and this aint the end but smart move if they pair it with real reforms

People need a middle ground to have a good life, but working less usually causes even more problems than working more. If you take a look at the state of things of adults and children in the first world, you will quickly find data that shows that most of them are engaging in various unhealthy behaviors and these are the ones that are pushing them to ask for less work time. Some people think that if AI takes all the jobs and people get universal income that we will have artists, poets, philosophers everywhere... they could not be wrong.

We would have a nightmare where most people are fat and completely plugged in consumers, like some black mirror episodes. People randomly going crazy because they can't go on anymore, suicidal because they can't find meaning in anything and so on it goes. Most people are not mentally fit for such a lifestyle and this is not something that will change in one generation. Mentally fit would mean that you are exclusively engaging in productive and healthy activities and behaviors with all this extra time. No, binge watching TV shows on Netflix is not good behavior in case someone is asking.  Cheesy

I think you are under the illusion that inflation at 2% is good, this is a lie that is not proven to be true. As you see here they try to prevent you from saving money. Saving money is the key of a good economy and good long-term outlooks. If that is being discouraged then something is deeply wrong. It is not Japan it is the whole world of fiat currencies.

I'm not actually sure if those numbers, per person, is actually right, BUT what matters is the total amount of money that's being injected into the economy. They wrote that it's the largest liquidity injection since COVID-19, then it must be relatively massive.

Relatively massive to what, the COVID stimulus? It is not. The COVID one was in total more than $1 trillion according to AI. So this one is just a bit more than 10%. I guess the news headlines can be quite misleading since something can be the biggest stimulus since the COVID one but still relatively small compared to that one. Still that does not mean that it is small overall, when not compared to the COVID one. It is still pretty big since there is no observable crisis of that kind going on.

It's the largest since the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Although it might not be that large, it's still an actual liquidity injection that's still inflationary while inflation isn't in the country's 2% target yet.

Why are they doing it? Is the Japanese Economy stagnating?

Quote

I don't have "something" but a mere question. "WHY"?

If the economy is OK, then why the liquidity injection despite the rising inflation?

  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well that is fair to ask still, I just wanted to check if you had something more. The issue here is that economies all over the world are not in a good situation. Some are better off than others right now, but no place is experiencing those golden times. The question is always what do you do to improve the situation? There are many measures of relief that are tried, some work better than others. For example a direct stimulus that gives you money to spend on whatever you want is among one of the worst options. Many people, especially poor ones will squander it on shit that will actually not help their situation at all. People are just terrible with easy money. Something like reducing taxes on gasoline is slightly better, but more systemic improvements are the best.

I am not saying that there is no issue here, but I want to see some data that indicates this so that we can explore it more deeply.

It's either Stagflation or an incoming Liquidity Crisis.

Yes that is correct, but it is different than saying it is massive compared to the COVID-19. That is why I was trying to get a clarification here so that we are in agreement. It is the biggest since then and it is most certainly unusual as there have not been such injections elsewhere, other than some Trump plan to use tariff money to do a stimulus in 2026 I think.

It's either Stagflation or an incoming Liquidity Crisis.
We will find out soon. Perhaps you want to set a timeline for your prediction if you want to be extra honest, so this does not turn into a look they have the crisis that I foretold 25 years ago situation.. I was right.  Cheesy Anyway I think the situation is not limited to Japan but the problem is worldwide. The European Union is not doing so good either. Manipulating numbers and definitions to avoid declaring recessions, stagflation and high inflation.. we have seen everything in the world in recent years.

There could be other reasons behind this too. The US regime in its series of destabilization wars has been trying to get East Asian countries to fight a proxy war with China. Japan is the main proxy they are trying to use and the Japanese government has been stupidly increasing the tensions with China and the Chinese retaliation is harsh on Japan and could be devastating for its economy.

As I said this type of stimulus packages only help ease the suffering of regular people during economic hardship.

I don't know. I'm not actually good in making predictions/forecasts.

But it's probably fair to give it time until Q4 of 2026, Q1 of 2027? If the Japanese economy has improved by that time, and inflation has gone down, then it's probably safe from a sort of crash/liquidity crisis, no?

Plus Q4 of 2026 might be the best time to buy the Bitcoin DIP if it follows its previous cycles.

Japan is governed by a constitution drafted by the occupying American general MacArthur. If they could do anything, I think they would start by changing their constitution.

Negative interest rates, rapidly developing industry; some call these the Japanese miracle. The Japanese are very meticulous, disciplined, and wonderful people, but we all know that these things can only happen with certain foreign support.

The news is talking about a $135 billion stimulus package. It won't affect inflation entirely, but I'm sure it will eventually put pressure on inflation.

But why the stimulus package? I believe it's probably because the BOJ/Japanese government is expecting a liquidity crisis/economic crash and has front-ran it.
Maybe, but I think if they predict a "liquidity crisis" they would just increase the liquidity, give out more loans, lower rates and generally do stuff like that.

Paying people like this is only done when the economy is also in a recession and people don't want to or cannot afford to take loans. The stimulus packages are giving to the people to help ease their hardship during economic hardship. Like many governments did during the COVID19 recession.

I also don't think this has that much of an inflationary effect. They money these people receive is mostly spent on their cost of living (to put simply it pays the bills). That can't really cause inflation though.
I'm actually not sure it's because they are expecting liquidity crisis, the chances that Japan will have a liquidity crisis right now or in the next 2 years is quite low, this is because Japan central bank do print money aggressively, therefore if banks or companies need cash they can quickly get it, also japan owes most of its money to its self and not other countries. So liquidity crisis is something not to be bothered about for the cause of the stimulus package
Instead I strongly suspect that this stimulus package is like a means of stabilising their economy, Japan economy has been facing slow growth in the past few decades, the stimulus package can be a solution to strengthen business and keep a stable economy so things does not go worst.
You're on point about Japan's liquidity — they're the kings of printing and self-debt. A liquidity crisis is the last thing they'd fear.

But that's the whole poison. They can't have a liquidity crisis because they're hooked on the printer. The real crisis is solvency and currency devaluation. They're sacrificing the yen to keep the zombie economy on life support. The "stimulus" is just more of the same old heroin — makes the patient feel okay today while the body rots.

Bitcoin is the antidote to this exact playbook. When your entire system is based on printing your way out of trouble, you create a nation of people desperate for an exit into something hard. They're not solving the problem; they're just kicking the can until the yen is worthless. Savers get murdered slowly.

This is why Bitcoin adoption happens. It's not about tech; it's about survival when your money is programmed to die.

The recent interest rate hike in Japan is in line with this speculation of mine here.

Higher interest rates worsen the ongoing recession which would then worsen the economic hardship on regular people. Therefore giving out stimulus packages (to ease part of that hardship) becomes a necessity.
