Why do gambling addicts often believe they can “win back” losses despite statistical odds being against them? Is it because a weak mind or lack of will power that they have these doubts ?

Because they always feel that the next one is going to be a win and because they are already addicted to this way of gambling it becomes very difficult for them to stop , chasing losses is one of the attributes of an addicted gambler and it seems like they can't help it anymore and at this point they are driving by sadness of losing so much money and the best way for them to console themselves is by gambling continuously even though they know the consequences but they try to fix it by gambling more and more. And I also got to know that gamblers try to fix their mistakes by chasing losses hoping to win back the money they have lost because they know that people around them at already disappointed in them and they do everything to get back the trust without knowing that they are getting themselves in more deep mess.

The reason? They constantly remember their previous winning moments, which made them feel incredibly happy. This memory leads them to believe that they will win again to recoup their recent losses, but ultimately, they lose again.

I've experienced addiction before, and as I recall, hope and self-confidence are what keep gamblers coming back. Furthermore, frustration and emotion are also key triggers that lead them back to gambling. I've also gambled aggressively out of desperation, and as you might expect, the results are ultimately worse.

I'm more in control now, because trying to win back money is like digging yourself into another hole, and at some point, you just won't be able to get out of it, and I don't want to have to wonder what to do next.

I think that the main thing that prevents people from accepting a loss is their own pride. They do not want to appear as losers in their own eyes, which is exactly why they are ready to engage in all kinds of foolish actions just to save face. In such moments, critical thinking clearly switches off, and in the pursuit of self-assertion they drive themselves into even greater trouble and debt.

It will be unwise of those that feel pride even while losing, though you might be right about that and surely I think I have seen someone like that before, he vowed never to stop gambling unless he get all his money back else there's no stopping I tried telling him that he's actually making the worst decision but he never allow me to say a word then I decided to let go, though it's been a year since it happened, But funny enough that he hasn't gotten all his money back even till this time instead he's still adding more to the current one he had yet he have not realize that he has made the wrong decision.

It's not by their strength or will that this is happening to them, this feelings is being controlled by the brain which is caused by the disease dopamine rush which fuel the brain rewards circulation, because when you win, it cause a more inflow like floods of dopamine that makes the brain feel good and well relaxed gives a strong and high urge  ofof an addict wanting more, which makes it compulsory for wanting to chase their losses until they are satisfied.


Also they feel they have lost alot in their gambling activities and so they think they can regain it and start chasing their losses uncontrollably not knowing that gambling doesn't work that way

Treating it as fee for your entertainment instead of aiming to recover back the amount that you already spent, on that way you'll be able to cope up easily, unlike with those who thinks that they can quickly recover once they added more and play for another session, always need to be in the safe side, limiting the amount of allocated budget for gambling to make sure that you'll prevent yourself from getting deeper engagement, that kind of thinking will save your butt losing more.

I don't think the majority of addict people actually believe they can win back all their money, which was lost to the casino. To me it seems to be rather an excuse for them to continue to engage in their casino games and have little to no accountability for their actions.

From my own experience, those who believe they can get their money back are newbies who are not fully aware of the edge of the house and the mechanisms used by casinos and bookies in order to guarantee their profit. Actually, it is a mistake which is made by most gamblers when they start in this ecosystem, eventually the fortunate ones learn about this mistake and move on from their losses.

The loss that occurs in gambling can be used as a compensation for the game we get and the fun we have before (even though we may not be happy with the loss) but it is a reasonable cost to be used as a reason not as a revenge by continuing to play and trying to restore the defeat that occurred before.

Because it is certainly difficult and maybe even impossible to do in gambling because after all, we as gamblers must realize that the conditions that occur in gambling and the defeats we receive are like a certain thing even though it will be a different story where some lose quickly and some lose and lose slowly but the results will still be the same.

It can't be said that whoever think like that are weak minds.
Because it's for sure that all of us have the same mind when we're having a bad day and huge losses.

Addicts try to recover their losses by all means necessary, even when they are losing a lot of money they still end up losing more because they are constantly chasing losses. in most cases they don't actually believe that they can win their losses back but they just hope to get lucky. It is much more healthy to accept this harsh reality, and now you can win all the games that you have lost statistically speaking, which are virtually impossible to take back.
