Given this, what factors cause Bitcoin’s price to fluctuate - aren't there always buyers at the standard market price?
The same factor that leads to bitcoin negative volatility also equally leads to bitcoin positive volatility only that when it's getting bullish, you don't see people complaining that bitcoin is being volatile, it's only when it's getting bearish that you see complains that bitcoin is all of a sudden getting overly volatile. As long as there's buys, sales and the effect of adoption and a bit of political weight being pull into or out of bitcoin, bitcoin is going to remain volatile and each of these factors jointly contribute to the degree of volatility of bitcoin as well as the direction of bitcoin volatility. If there's more sell than buys, then bitcoin will be negatively volatile and when the reverse is the case, it becomes positively volatile. This is what every investor ought to come to terms with whole knowing that in most cases, the bull is always greater than the bear.

Bitcoin is not the only volatile asset in the world. It is not even the most volatitle asset.
Gold is very volatile as well.
Recently, tech stock were also very volatitle, and nvidia was way more volatile than bitcoin.
It is a high risk asset , with many uncertainties and regulations are being made. That causes volatility
To be honest, that was surprising to hear from a forum veteran like you, or maybe things really have changed now? But only or at least for a while? Only because those things that you have said there are now trending. And once their trend subsides, things are going back to normal again. And then Bitcoin is now the king of being a volatile asset again. The items that you mentioned here or their volatility are much better than the high volatility of the meme coins because if you missed the chance of selling them at the top, you won't get totally bankrupt and even have the chance to see a recovery or even earn more, as the price exceeds on your buying point. Nothing really changed about other assets. Stocks and commodities were always very volatitle. But bitcoin is becoming less volatitle as time passes. ... bitcoin isn't going to make 10x in a cycle as before.

Bitcoin is volatile because buying and selling determines it's current value, as some holders are willing to sell there are buyers who are willing to buy, the greater of this determines where price stands at every point. Bitcoin is volatile because it is a scarce commodity based on the fact that it has limited supply which makes it an asset that is in constant demand. The more holders are not willing to sell it's price will authomatically go up and this will entice some of the holders to sell and make profit, as more holders are selling it will become excess in the market and price will drop.
The only instance that con stop volatility is if there are no buyers and sellers but we know that it is not possible, some people must have reasons to offload their Bitcoin and others will have reasons to buy. Why Bitcoin is a store of value is that despite the price fluctuations in the market it always reaches ATH, this is the main reason that attracts more buyers into the market.

People are trying to buy it at below market value? Why? Why not just buy it at market value?
That's normal in the market. Because I sometimes set my average purchase price at a level that is relatively lower than the current market price. I usually place several orders at the nearest support levels. Sometimes my orders are filled quickly, and sometimes it takes a long time for them to be filled. Everyone wants to buy at a lower price to profit when the price rises again and sell it. Because there are many types of traders and investors in the market. Some are day traders, some are medium-term investors, and some are long-term investors who hold Bitcoin. Fluctuations also occur due to the various positions of traders in the market that are filled. That's the nature of trading.

The fact is that Bitcoin is volatile because not everyone views it the same way. For some it is digital gold, for some a trading tool and for others a risky experiment, because of these different perspectives not everyone can agree on a price, In my opinion going to ATH is not the only reason it should be called a store of value. The fact is that over time people come back to it, trust breaks then builds again. This uncertainty and fluctuation in trust is what keeps Bitcoin volatile and alive at the same time.

There may be many reasons for Bitcoin's volatility, the most important of which is that its future value is not guaranteed, as is the case with gold. All assets in the world are characterized by volatile prices, including gold, silver, and even real estate. Sometimes such an unstable environment in the price of Bitcoin is created only due to global negative announcements, such as when a country bans the free trading of Bitcoin. The most interesting thing is that when Bitcoin's price is volatile, investment opportunities arise in the market, especially those who could not invest in the high market, look for opportunities to invest in the low market.

If the price of Bitcoin is not fluctuating i dont think their will be anything like buying and selling. Bitcoin fluctuating is the reason why bitcoin has value and why people will always buy Bitcoin. If you want to deal with bitcoin you have to first understand it that it is volatile with this understanding as a trader you have know when to buy and when to sell. Bitcoin is very volatile and this is why people are very much interested in buying it at low prices and sell when the price of Bitcoin increase.

Why is Bitcoin’s price so volatile?
Volatility is part of Bitcoin, characteristics like this are what make Bitcoin unique and attractive to most investors. On the other hand, fluctuations can also be an opportunity for investors who are ready to take risks and have the right strategy in investing, but for those who are not ready for very short-term changes in value, this situation can be a threat to them. Fluctuations are also caused by several factors such as changes in market sentiment which can influence the decisions of buyers and sellers. Even if buyers are willing to buy Bitcoin at the standard market price, if there are no sellers willing to sell at that price, the price will fall. Conversely, if there are many buyers willing to buy at a higher price, the price will rise. These are just a few of the factors that can cause Bitcoin price to fluctuate. Please feel free to add more information if you have more extensive knowledge about the factors that can cause Bitcoin price to fluctuate.

Bitcoin is often described as a long-term store of value, yet its price frequently moves sideways or declines for extended periods.
Why Bitcoin price is volatile and moves side Ways for a long period of time is basically the principle of demand and supply. People are and selling every 247 making the price of Bitcoin to fluctuate depending on the side that get more attention than the others. What I mean is that if there is more buyers and less sellers, Bitcoin will increase in price and vise versa if the demand is low and sellers are higher, the price of Bitcoin will drop making the market unstable. The market can only be stable when there are no buyers and sellers, and there will never be a time when buyers and sellers will not be available.

If you're thinking the only demand and supply that was controlling Bitcoin's price. it seems you're new in the crypto. Things are not going like what you expected as Bitcoin is also strongly driven by macro and micro economic. The political decision, Interest Rate, and etc also gave impact to drive the price of bitcoin up and down.
You can take a look at BTC's week chart, then put your attention when Bitcoin pumped to the 91k, then dumped back to the 86k just after Japan's announcement about the IR increase.
Thing is not as simply as you imagine. Things worsen with the manipulation created by the whales. So it's normal when you see BTC up and down even faster.

Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and cryptocurrency is one of the most volatile asset in the digital market. Other assets like stock and gold are also volatile and tradeable, but Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency that is why the volatility is high. Money inflow and outflow also causes bitcoin volatility. When their is a massive sell off in bitcoin, the market dumps very sharply and when their is cash inflow (buying) the market reams bullish. Because of the volatility of bitcoin, it demands to be traded with experience and caution. So you see people complaining of loosing money in their bitcoin investment, this is because they approach bitcoin with the wrong investment strategy and is mostly those who invest with short term strategy.

Bitcoin is often described as a long-term store of value, yet its price frequently moves sideways or declines for extended periods. In principle, buyers and sellers generally avoid transactions that intentionally reduce value, since buying/selling at a lower Bitcoin price weakens perceived value and harms both parties. the seller says “I will not sell any amount, even 0.00000001 BTC, for less than $1.43 per BTC.” the buyer buys what they can afford. Given this, what factors cause Bitcoin’s price to fluctuate - aren't there always buyers at the standard market price?
If the price of Bitcoin was not volatile, then Bitcoin would not have attracted investors. So when Bitcoin was created, these things were pre-planned so that it could attract the attention of investors and create a hype worldwide. And Bitcoin has been able to do this, which is why Bitcoin is now a digital currency discussed in the whole world that everyone trusts and invests in large amounts. Bitcoin's volatility can be called its religion. Not only Bitcoin, but every coin in the crypto market, except for a few stable coins, is volatile and this is why you yourself are thinking about Bitcoin and are interested in investing here.

But you mentioned nothing about scarcity and "offer and supply" which are the two main reasons for the volatility of any product including digital assets. Note that almost all the commodities in the market have their prices volatile, but not at the level to reach X10 in a short cycle like bitcoin did during few years. With bitcoin use spreads, the price is going to les volatility until reaching a certain level of stability.

Without volatility of market demand and supply bitcoin price will not have reached the all time high standard it is presently at but, many do not think about that, they enjoy the beauty of the volatility when price is going up, surging to the profit of their bitcoin stash and complain when it dropping, both from volatility.
The demands and supply of the bitcoin is very high and that’s why it very difficult for the price of bitcoin to reach the all time high. Let look at how the price of bitcoin has been fluctuating all this while without stable, those are types of things that will prevent the Bitcoin from reaching all time highs, but everything is all about time we hope the Bitcoin can reach out the all time highs in this coming year which is 2026. It is a common phenomenon with bitcoin price moving sideways creating opportunities for all traders and investors to enter the market at their own timing where profit can be made. While a handful complain, others are taking advantage of the price reverse.
Honestly this is a big opportunity for the investor to enter the market with any any amount of money and again huge amount of profits in future. But for the traders I don’t think they will be happy with the current situation of the Bitcoin price.

The problem with Bitcoin today is that it is speculative in nature. It's unpleasant to admit, but that's how it is — the value of a “real asset,” “digital gold,” cannot just jump around like that! In other words, its price is MANIPULATIVE! At the same time, it is very difficult to determine its real value. Yes, you can calculate the cost of mining equipment and the cost of electricity consumed, but these are costs without any useful work being done. As unpleasant as it may sound! Therefore, for now, we will observe waves of price changes. By the way, I assume that now they will not be related to halving! PS No, I am not against Bitcoin. In fact, I believe that in the long term, Bitcoin will stabilize and its price will rise. That is why I am accumulating it. More precisely, it is one of the assets in my diversified portfolio. But this should not be taken as a call to action or inaction!

Interesting topic, OP. Are you asking from a trading perspective or just general curiosity? Volatility affects hodlers, traders, and miners differently, so the “why” can have multiple layers.
Are there really multiple players to this or it’s simply demand and supply playing its normal role with the Bitcoin price. Understandably, there are certain forces that might push price to take a direction not just expected such as, institutions flooding the market with more coins than expected or topping their portfolio to buy more Bitcoins. Still, it’s the constant buying and selling that is happening on the blockchain or through intermediaries that is reflected in the price. It’s not meant to be stable, at least for now.

I see that most people are still critical of an OP rather than simply attempting to answer the question. It's annoying when you ask a simple question to be told all the ways you don't understand. Anyway.. I too wonder why it has such frequent and significant upswings and downswings, even if not of the scale of times past. Some possibilities I see are: First, it's an asset which isn't regulated and so open to manipulation by large market movers to improve their position and make profit. Second, people sell bitcoin when their other assets dive, still (sadly) seeing bitcoin as the first to go in a pinch (I hope that will change). Similarly they buy in on upswings that where they can use profits or leverage for bitcoin purchases. So in this sense it's still connected to other assets. Third, it's still a mystery to most people - poorly understood and its volatility is terrifying to those people. This magnifies up and downswings and people pile on. Either to get rich or get out before their fear of collapse. Like most I expect I wish the price was more stable. But I also believe it won't be until it's still more widely adopted and no longer considered a scam by so many. And so we wait I guess.

Because of it volatility, it is good for an investor to invest in a long term investment so that he can gain profit in the long run. And as I explained earlier in another thread. The bitcoin you bought does not change value but it is the exchange rate with dollar that changes. If you look at the market the total number of bitcoins you have is still intact but in dollar price it has reduced. That is why you are not ask you sell when the price is low so that you won't lose, you have to wait until the price rise above your capital investment and that should be years to come.

Given this, what factors cause Bitcoin’s price to fluctuate - aren't there always buyers at the standard market price?
The sideways alteration is due to a change in the market that tends to affect its value sometimes making it unbearable for investors and holders to sell at loss. There are buyers no doubt but what's really the major cause of Bitcoin price fluctuations is basically due to an insignificant price increase and decrease resulting from a high demand from buyers that way the price tend to fluctuate cause it ain't stable at the moment.
