Everyone knows Casascius, but few people talk about the "Solid Gold Physical Bitcoins".

Back in the early days, some fanatics were crazy enough to cast actual gold (1oz or more) and load them with 1 BTC. I built an archive to document this insane part of history:

I need the community's help:

The Missing 20: Early intel suggests at least 20 of these gold coins are currently located in the US. Has anyone actually seen them in person?

Data Verification: If you spot any spec errors in the archive, or know any holders, please let me know.

Museums: Are there any crypto museums actively collecting these early artifacts? They belong in a display case, not a melting pot.

CRITICAL WARNING: Last month, on-chain data showed the 1 BTC from one of these coins being swept to an exchange.

If you are lucky enough to own one, please check the archive or contact me before peeling it. The historical premium far exceeds the BTC value inside. Don't make a mistake you'll regret.

Considering that these are collectible pieces, why don't you try asking the experts in the field? You can open a thread and consult collectible OGs in the Collectibles board. They've been in the game for many years, perhaps they've come across the piece you're talking about.

There's actually an "Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoins and Crypto-currencies" written by Elias Ahonen. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy. So, I can't verify if "Solid Gold Physical Bitcoins" is included. You can try ping him. But I'm sure many members in the collectible community have a copy. They can verify it for you.

It has been confirmed that it is included in the "Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency". Thank you for guiding this newbie. I will go to the Collectibles board to inquire now.

That is painful to read.

It is like melting down a rare historical coin just for the gold content.
The owner likely saw "1 BTC" and acted on the spot price, completely missing the numismatic value.

Ignorance destroys wealth faster than any market crash.

This address, "17Paj2YodiEzRxyNEAh2dc3GRBvGxV47v4", was the site of a heartbreaking transfer last month. It had been sitting idle for over 11 years, and its cost was 5 BTC. It was destroyed just like that.

Haha, love the deep cuts! Solid gold physical bitcoins are pure O.G. madman energy. Who in their right mind would melt one of those now? It's like burning a Da Vinci sketch to light a cigar.

heart breaking why?
The owner cashed it in for over $87k paying just $11.1 in fee. Back in 2014, 5BTC was worth maybe $1k or so plus they still have a 1oz gold coin.Sounds like a big win to me...

@OP Roll Eyes
this topic belong to collectibles board... anyway
Are you sure that you can handle such BIG transaction? Have you any proofs of previous transactions or can you show funds for buying this kind of coins?
It's very common to "peel" and sell the carcass. Anyway, we agree that loaded coins are the best but we can't hope that other people will not peel.

Fanatics? Go to the collectibles board, its full of fanatics.
"actual Gold" which turned out to be less desirable than the loaded Bitcoin.

CRITICAL WARNING: Last month, on-chain data showed the 1 BTC from one of these coins being swept to an exchange.

Whats the warning about? Anyone owning any legendary loaded collectible
is free to peel it and redeem it whenever they choose. There was never any
term and conditions to owning one.
