The only time I remember winning a bet after doing a match is when I was in elementary school. I remember playing football in our village field, losing and winning in succession. We have to treat the winners to some big gains, not really spending a lot of money, since nobody is rich enough at our age. I think we're feeling some pressure when we did that, but everything was basically for fun. Probably not the same when you're an athlete or risking a lot of money.

Betting on yourself no matter how much you want to justify it is still wrong and obviously a disrespectful thing to do for yourself and to the spirit of fairness. Think of it this way, when there is a bet on yourself and the bet is you make bad plays but if you bet on that you would be making a lot of money, you would basically throw off your game for the sake of that bet. To me, this is a disservice to whatever you do because you are playing unfairly and not to the best of your ability.

Betting on yourself can be either a powerful motivator or a heavy mental burden but it depends on how, why, and what’s at stake.Betting on yourself builds self awareness, focus and it builds self trust.Little commitments, accountability, small, intentional steps that builds discipline.Betting on yourself becomes a mental burden when you invest in the most unhealthy ways.

What is the need of betting on yourself when you can personally motivate yourself be it gambling or academic achievement. I don't really like trying to convince myself by betting to show that I can do something. Perhaps I might do it for the fun but will not be something I see as regular thing to me. What I have done in the past is playing football matches and betting for my team to win. This is almost what most of us most have done in the past especially in the elementary schools or secondary schools. Then we bet for little gain we are going to make from betting winning.
