Well from one angle you’re right and from a different angle I’d slightly disagree with you. I’ll start with the areas I feel you’re right. First of all, it’s true that a person’s or institution’s self interest mostly dominates global behavior. A lot of countries, individuals and groups we see today reacts towards certain global issues primarily in their own political or economic interests, so when they make certain policies, it’s mostly not to salvage the problem at hand, but to shield themselves from getting tangled with those global issues.
But even with all these, that’s still doesn’t mean that some people or institutions are not trying their best to render their help in the best ways they can, even when they know the can’t really take on those issues alone, they still give their best. For examples, there are numerous individuals, NGOs, philanthropists and even governments genuinely working towards ensuring that lessen and even solve (if possible) certain problems that have become a complete menace to humanity on a global scale.
