It clear that the era of slavery are gone and we Nigerians believe there is no slave trade activities going on in Nigeria now but right in Nigeria our corrupt political representatives have modernized slavery with a touch of democracy making us accept we have gained freedom when we have not.
Judging from the things happening in the country for the past few years, you will see the atom of slavery but in a modern way for example: Lack of accountability, high profile financial stealing, well organised corruption practice and so on. Because Nigerians have been enslaved by the same political representatives our opinions are not listened to and if we insist they have the right to do what so ever they want because the law is only made for you and i and not them.

When we talk about slavery it's a process whereby white Men or foreigners comes to Nigeria and purchase humans and makes them their slaves so if it's the political system you are talking about I won't agree with you that we are slaves because we are the ones that votes those politicians into power and we the civilians has not really demanded for accountability from them due to peanuts they give us in form of appointing us as SAs on media etc, this has shut the mouth of the Youths and they cannot demand for their rights.

Stealing doesn't start today, politicians has been stealing from time immemorial and they do that in form of building projects or awarding projects like building bridges, Schools and Remodeling of decayed building even the EFCC has been bribed that they can't probe any government officials for financial misconduct, the day Nigerian Youths begins to take responsibility and ask for accountability from our politicians that the day changes will surface and this endless suffering they have mounted on us will be uplifted.

The form of slavery that I see, is usually those sales girl and buys that they don't pay very well. There oga Dem dey pay 15-20k as monthly salary, instead of the normal minimum wage, that one for me nai be modern day slavery. Politicians dey do there own, no doubt, but you see employers of labor, na there own dey pain me pass

I hear you oga it's like some employers are taking advantage of their workers, especially those sales girls getting paid peanuts 15-20k is rough, considering the minimum wage is higher. You're right, it's like modern-day slavery
Low pay for hard work,Should be enforced,Employers should do better.

What do you think can be done to address this issue? Like, should there be stricter laws or more awareness because it get more confused sometimes

Democracy lost its credibility long ago because a government that is supposed to be of the people, by the people and for the people is now a government of few cabals while they left the citizens to their own fate. What is freedom if the voices of the people are not heard? what is freedom when they keep rigging elections to their own selfish interests, our votes don't count anymore. So, i agree with you that we are in a civilized and modern-day slave trade.

Talking about democracy, Nigeria do not practice a democratic system of government truly but does theoretically, it is said that democracy is the government of the people, for the people and by the people. But ours is only for the leaders that is why the citizens opinion do not count in all rectification. In Nigeria corruption has eaten up the system that even when you are right the law has its way of making you wrong in as much as you are not among the ruling party. Imagine an administration where the president have the right to remove money from the countries treasury without any reasons and nothing is done about that but if a citizen finds his way to same place and tamper with same money he will be penalised for his actions, where is the law we have in the country.
