This left me in awe, how good can this scammers get? And I am still curious on how possible it was for the cloning of someone's closed friend for scam, what if it actually happens that this clone friend has something to do with the fraudulent act, just saying though.
But getting scammed through social media (X platform) is possible because someone can be tracked through their bios, but through zoom, that is really strange because on a norms zoom is usually for some official meetings or events with group of people. Except it is a one on one meeting which requires just two people, even at that person is aware and knows the cause of the meeting. How them will the person still fall for the scammer.

Scammers became more wiser and been updated with tech now, that's why we also need to upgrade our learnings so we can avoid those potential AI scams.

To detect and avoid deepfake scams, ask these people in the video calls to smile, shake their heads, move their heads right and left. These things are basic steps for detecting who is a person behind a deepfake video call as quick moves can show some abnormal things on the video. It's applicable at the moment with deepfake quality now but in the future, perhaps these tricks will no longer work.

I support your idea of using another phone to call that person is like another effective way to detect possible fraud calls and scammers.

I know i have be making this emphasis, that whatever that have advantages also have a disadvantages and it's disadvantages that maybe more dangerous than the advantages..

I knew that soon Al will be use for different illegalities, the only thing is that we should be careful on the kind of things we should be interested on...they're different derivatives of scam and if we are not careful we shall be victim..

Scammers will always take advantage of everything to be able to improve on what they are doing, its our job to be more knowledgeable and better on everything that we do or atleast be more careful, because they will always find a way.
because if we just sit around and learn nothing there will be a moment that we will realize they are already in the system, and monitoring everything, they are just waiting for the right moment, and worse they will sold everything they got from you even do a ransom and ask you to pay for it.

I don't think this is enough to know who is your friend you trusted the most to go into a Zoom call or whatever app that you weren't used before.

I also don't think that knowing your friends on Facebook and other social media platforms is enough. The attack must be much more targeted and involve real social engineering to find out more about the victim, for example, who the victim regularly talks to on the phone and when such calls take place. If, for example, one of my “Facebook friends” whom I hardly ever see in real life or with whom I hardly ever talk on the phone were to call me, I would immediately be suspicious if this person actually called and then asked me to install something.

So I don't think the whole thing happened purely by chance.

I can't take calls on telegram from non contacts except it's a well known member from a group I have been chatting. Where I usually receive invite to join a live streaming is on TikTok but I don't also accept the invit because I'm being careful because of the rise of scams this days. I added 2f authenticator on my telegram and also put it on password before logging in and just on december last year, I received a telegram code to my email, meaning that someone was trying to access my account but they could not hack it because it was on password and 2f authenticator. I advice us to set our telegram with 2F and password, it will make it difficult to hack.

What do you guy's expect, definitely as the whole world is celebrating AI helps for the global work space, as tools to execute several task's, scammers and hacker's will definitely take their own turn to take advantage of whatever liphol that can be abuse to scam potential victims.

Many times I have recieved such video invitations or even direct contact via telegram,  but I chose to ignore them for my own safety and peace of mind.

I blame the victims of this scheme too, because is very easy to slot an AI generated video.

And aside from avoiding them, if someone has already messaged and tried to scam you, block them already.

Delete all the conversations and them so that you won't be part of their contacts anymore. Because what they can do is to use again the contacts where they've sent that scam attempt in record.

I believe this one. Everyone doesn't have the experience to determine such scams and even some people believe something just by seeing it once. I'd just say the same thing which is to avoid it and never download such application if ever they want you to install an application that we are not sure if it's safe or not especially if we don't know if it's from the safe source or legit.

Yes, not everyone can avoid these scams when they have no idea of how to avoid it. I think if they're researchful, they'll get it from this thread and other sources that teaches them how to spot these scams.

So with guides, threads and articles that are existing on the internet and forums like bitcointalk, it will help them determine and avoid those.

But for as long as they have not encountered one, they're likely to be targeted by these scammers because they're their number one targets.

The risk of having large bitcoins stored in hot wallets  connected to the internet is what every crypto user would not give the excuse of not knowing about it, cause it is an unbranded topic in the lips and words of any crypto group/community.

In light of this, people have to resist the urge of connecting their device into other systems that they can not verify the safety of that device from a malware, or clicking links they are seeing for the first time or do not recognise.  And have your large bitcoins in cold storage, these wallets are not that expensive comparing to losing your coins to internet attack.

One thing about hackers is that they look for a way to install a malware on your device, but you are the one that will unknowingly install the malware just like how the person that posted on X was affected. Do not download anything from a source you do not trust.

If you don't trust the one that's saying it, please don't do it. If you are having some skepticism towards it, follow it because most of the time, it's true. Installing some random things can lead to loss of money. TBH, I'm not surprised that AI and Telegram have been used by these scammers to lure those newbies out there. Unfortunately, there's no other way to stop these scammers. Yearly, there are millions of dollars that are going to these people, and there's nothing that we can do about it, but to just educate, educate, and educate them. Telegram has been the den for scammers for long time alongside Discord. At the same time, I'm not surprised that AI has been utilized by these scammers to make better ways of scamming.

At the end of the day, what I always believe is that, there will be investors that might get scammed once in their whole life, and that's okay because I look at it as a "learning curve" for them. Getting scammed twice then there's a problem with you as an investor. Getting scammed thrice, and you need to stop investing already.

Good thing none of my friends and I use telegram to talk or do anything, on regular basis. I have been using telegram only to get crypto news updates, get certain resources, use bots such as btt notifier bot, as well as doing things not involving crypto/money. I am aware how easy it is to impersonate users there, so I always avoided doing financial deals there..When sending money, I always make sure (and this is a must rule for me) to call them on their personal number that I have saved on my contact list, to confirm whether it's really my friend, making sure they are the ones taking then loan. Impersonating users, using their faces in deepfakes might be easy, but cloning their "voice", the "tone", they talk in isn't an easy job. So, yeah, this is how I have been dealing with things forever.

Telegram is not a good place to negotiate business or having any good conversation, there are genuine businesses going on there but the fact that people can change their details and delete their conversations without traces is enough reason for people not to trust anything they see on telegram. Different scams happen on social media but that of telegram is too common and now AI helps them to get different videos and do things that will look very real but all are just to attract and scam people who do not know who they are.
