I saw the post two years ago on Reddit, and if you take a moment to read people's comments, the majority were critical of his decision. Also, if I had commented then, I would have criticized his decision too, just like everyone. But looking at how the price of Bitcoin has appreciated over the years, he was right after all. His calculated risk paid off.
The post on renddit is 9 years old and the price of Bitcoin was low at the time compared to today. If we look at the post now, we'd certainly say he was right, as Bitcoin continues to see an increase.
But at the time this decision was certainly wrong because Bitcoin's price can't be predicted and when we take out a loan, there's a deadline for repayment, even if it's secured by a house, but all loans have a deadline. This also applies now. If you borrow money now using your house as collateral and then buy Bitcoin, Bitcoin will certainly increase in value in 10 years, but the problem is that you have to repay the loan within a certain timeframe and that's the problem. So in my opinion, even though Bitcoin is the best asset and a long term asset, taking out a loan to buy Bitcoin is a wrong idea and will be dangerous for your future finances.
