With what we see now happening everywhere including internationally, the law is only for the weaker countries and the common man. Stronger countries and people have the leverage of violating the law without consequences. Gone are the days the court is the hope of a common man, now it is only the hope of a common man if his fellow common man is involved, but if it is a powerful person, he likely stands little or no chance.

Do not get me wrong, laws are good, it is meant to shape people's behavior and ensure they are conforming to ethical and acceptable practices in the society. It is only very ugly that it now seems that the powerful are above the law and in most cases, they are not held accountable for their various violations of the law.

Society exists when people live in groups, if we look at the times when people live in small groups, say an ethnicity or tribe and there are not laws but rules, each tribe has its own rules and it is still categorized as a society, even if they don't have rules but they live in groups then they are a society.
You will get a comfortable life if you are a descendant of the chief's family or you are a genius in the tribe, you will get special treatment there.
I strongly believe that without law life is free, including harming others, there are no restrictions on doing anything, but living without law is very dangerous, we will not know whether there is an attack or not for yourself and others, and there will be no one to provide protection.

Nope, just take a look in the lawless lands. You'd see criminals pass by through your door and if they knock yours, you have no option but to just let them do what they want or else they'll be taking your life.

Too much freedom is also dangerous. We still need to abide by the law for the peace and order. Because without such, we're seeing people that are also abusing their freedom and justifying the bad things they do and it all points out to the freedom that they have.

Firstly, these are to be called rules since they all are subject to change. Rules can be changed overtime, but laws don't, they are core parts of our living just like working smartly and discipline being very important ingredients to success, these can never be changed, but rules guiding the society are changed overtime as societies evolve.

People can exist without these rules, but the end result would be chaotic, rules are given to ensure order and peaceful coexistence among groups, in essence rules are enacted to maintain order in the society and checkmate human excesses. Freedom without rules in a society is very dangerous, there would be lots of excessiveness and recklessness if freedom isn't checkmated. It is only these rules that differentiate human beings from wild animals.

What I understand is that not every country can exist without law, as a nation that disregards the law can easily be conquered by other invading nations. Additionally, it differs because there is a constitution that the government constituents are obligated to follow.  Thus, there are guidelines that individuals adhere to in order to understand the appropriate system they should follow. Even if some people are above the law, it is because they influence the judiciary with their power/position and we only have a few of them. A friend of mine left Africa for Europe some time back, and we started talking after he had stayed there for a while, he was describing to me how the society over there was working, he talked response time to emergency, he talked about tax and how they are very strict with it, in fact in general he was talking how the laws operate. The truth is that, if there where no laws in our society, we all would have been living as if we are in Banana Republic. If with all the laws we have especially about human rights, people still find a way to break it and infringe on the right of others, then imagine if there was no law.

Any society that doesn't have law there won't be orderliness so it takes the two to have a working society although some laws are not fair to all it can favor a part of the society and be unfair to others. Economically the rich and politicians makes laws that favors them also strong countries will take resources from weak countries while the people stay impoverished. But in all there are basic laws of life that should protect everybody in a society not minding their class in the society like right to life, food and water, to mantain ownership of what legitimately belongs to you like your wife, husband and children. If these fundamental rights doesn't exist anywhere it means that there will be chaos, the strong will oppress the weak while the strongest will oppress the strong.

Okay for me law isn't punishment rather it's an agreement that has been made to make life comfortable and workable because without these laws I don't think there will be trust and we all know that in a society without law the people in it will surely live with fear. What you've just said is very valid in an ideal society/world, but let's be realistic, laws in our today's world doesn't govern and put everyone in check. We still have those who don't find it hard to oppress others. We still have the rich escaping from the consequences of the laws while the poor only suffers. Money and fame has long before now, separated the society into two different parts. The bitter truth that a lot of us keeps failing to admit is that there is no such thing as equality in the society. Even if a system is built to make things equal, the typical human nature is going to find a way to cause an imbalance. We've seen those with reputation get away with things.

Law are intending to servers guidelines to help humanitarian affairs, this has been put in place to serve as guide and avoid people going against each other's wish to harm them or cause any unlawful at at their own discretion while at the cost of others, had it been there is no law, people could have been open to all manner of unethical behaviors, but law will restrict them from behaving abnormally and cause fear because of the consequences of breaking the law.

If there are people living like that then they should examine the way the animals live their life. They have no guarantee for justice when a follow animal bully them or even deny them off what is genuinely theirs. Animal kill animal and life goes on for them but that is not so in human society. In human society, life would have been 'solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short' if there were no laws  according to Thomas Hobbes. The social contract theory also supports this that a few people have been given the authority and power to lead, make laws and control the multitude of people for them to conform to rules and regulations made for the society to live above the animalistic nature of life being short and brutish like in the animal kingdom.

You are right, It's impossible for the people to live together as a community without any law. Because we all know before that there is a individual differences and way of our thinking are not thesame. Despite the fact that there is international law and human rights, see how some countries are violating the law and involve in war with other countries and and to the essence of killing some innocent people's.

So it's going to be a big problem for a community or country to be in existence without any constitution or law guiding them. I know some part of world, as far as you are part of the Royal family or possess some rank in the community, you can commit a crime without it's dangerous to leave in community that doesn't guide by any law or don't even work by their law.

Life is brutal and unkind untill law came to put things in place, so law is the basic fabric for human existence and if there must be a society at all, then law is the reason for such co existence between people, this is the fact, so we can not understand estimates the importance for law for the society, I think I read somewhere about this same topic, law and society, may be am assuming but thought I read something on this same topic elsewhere around this forum yesterday or so.
Bottom line of this is that law is there to shape human actions and give direction to how we interact with each other.

There is no way to imagine that people can ever live normally without law, especially if there is no law in a third world country for just a few days, then such a chaotic situation will be created, then people will understand how much law is needed. Without law, people will never be safe. We even see that despite the existence of law, terrorist attacks occur in many countries. The common people are afraid that the absence of law in those countries means that such a situation will be created there that no one can ever imagine. Although humans are social creatures, without law, it will be difficult for many of them to find humanity. I think law is definitely needed and it is not possible to live a single day without law.

This is not entirely true if you mean by law the modern laws made by human civilisation. With tribe societies, there was no laws as we know today and the human kind continued to exist in small societies called tribes where everybody share the responsibilities to protect the group. At that time it was allowed to kill persons from other tribes for several reasons.

After that era, I think the problem started when we wanted to build larger societies formed by many tribes. Human made laws to regulate life between persons not tribes. And despite we built great civilizations, and inventing developped laws and regulations, people didn't stop to offense each other and to kill each other for whatever reason. We even invent laws to legitimate killing and wars.

In some philosophies, modern civilization was our great curse. Living in tribes wasn't that bad and human kind might continue to exist in natural way just like other species.
