For my own understanding so far, I have never seen on any social media or network of this kind where two persons are using the same name without no difference between them, the system always indicates that the particular name you want to use is already existing choose another one and if you really insist on using that particular name then you must one thing to make yours little different with anything of your choice and then it becomes similar but not the same, but if you are talking about similar names I think this can be allowed because there is a little difference between the two,in as much as they look alike,so it's left for us to always be very careful and go through every information so as not to be confused with similar names .....

Nah. But, for hypothetical purposes, Imagine trying to find all combinations of established usernames, and restrict those names, it'll be intensive task and new 'established' users will keep coming, so labor, labor and more labor. This suggestion should be disregarded without a second thought. Satoshi I believe is the only username that you cannot create a parody account for, the registration will not go through for good reason.
Are you sure about this? Just search up Satoshi and replace one of the character with let's say "0" instead of "O" and see how many results come up Reading Upgrade00 comment, I went on to create new account and could create one with name, 'Satosh!' — should have just read comments first, so needn't have to create account to 'check'.

Personally I think this will be difficult because looking at name it actually carries Zero (00) instead of the letter O so there is no way such names can be treated as same and similar names either can be stopped.
I assure you that the user who registered that account already knew about the existing one. Therefore, we can argue that there was a sinister move there. It's the same thing we see on Telegram. It's a crazy place to be as scammers are having a field day there. We don't want such here. That user's intention registering that account can't be genuine. More so why should a reputable member who hasn’t messaged you before start all of a sudden and if it does from real account and the issue involves money you can simply ask for signing of message from a very old address of the member
Not everyone will be as smart as you're, especially newbies. I'm sure you weren't this smart a few years ago as a newbie. Were you? I believe OP raised that awareness so that those who don't pay attention to details will start doing that, especially newbies. Such a name trick can't hoodwink you and I but then there are those it will definitely deceive.

If you read through again what the OP wanted you can see that he wants the forum to have software that doesn’t allows any new user to register a similar name with an already existing member which I actually stated the forum cannot do that because similar names doesn’t in any way means same name, it’s actually not ok to do. Even in trade mark you have to trade such name in 45 counts(businesses) if not someone else can still claim that name, and I went on to say that with if you find yourself in situations like this where you having an encounter with similar account, this is what you should have done. The issue of actually having address signed is actually using this thread to solve the problem if any one or myself reading this thread encounters it later not that it is what I will do. So for me yes OP raised a good awareness but his condition of the forum stopping registration of similar names is flawed because this two names in question are actually not same and forum cannot dictate it as such

If you read through again what the OP wanted you can see that he wants the forum to have software that doesn’t allows any new user to register a similar name with an already existing... Yeah, I read through it. I actually wanted to react to the OP and throw my weight behind them. It was several minutes after I had posted my comment that I realized I didn't react to the OP. I couldn't go back to edit to include my response to them. Even in trade mark you have to trade such name in 45 counts(businesses) if not someone else can still claim that name...
I pray thee; tell, are you team Blord or Team VDM 🤔. The issue of actually having address signed is actually using this thread to solve the problem if any one or myself reading this thread encounters it later not that it is what I will do.
That's mainly used in account recovery, not in solving scam issues once it happens. If someone registers an account similar to another's here, their aim obviously is to deceive. To deceive is to scam, except preempted. I hope you will understand me there.

I guess I had DYING_S0UL try to steal my identity? I wasn't aware the was a zero in his name, luckily no other user has registered DYING_SOUL or else my message would have gone to a scammer! There is no way you could program something like this; you'd restrict thousands of good names. Also, we should never give an illusion of safety but making such tools - they can always be bypassed.

After all this time, now you are noticing that zero? Lol. As for my username, I really don't know why I chose zero instead of the letter O. I can only vaguely remember, initially, I tried registering using the normal alphabets, but couldn't for some reason, and later I added that zero. Probably a technical glitch at that time. If there was a way (even if there is, assuming), we would be able to name some of it's examples. But i can't think of anywhere where I have seen such thing. I don't believe I will ever, as the wholee idea of it, is not practical.

It is good that you did, except you intend to use it, it most certainly would bring a lot of confusions for sure with users having to look again and again to note the difference but still, many wouldn’t hold it against you, probably would get some neutral tags. The good thing about it is, you’ve just made that username unavailable for the individuals that might sort it for illicit purposes. I expect more character combinations to work and with this being the other of the day, more would turn up.

After all this time, now you are noticing that zero? Lol. Nah, I'm sure I noticed it before - maybe even commented on it. But I have an interesting condition where I can re-watch movies for the first time. Of course there is no difference between a seasoned member forgetting and a newbie misreading. This is an opportunity for the BPIP extension. @ibminer Monitor new posts/pms at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=post and change the font color of the recognized username (in quotes) based on BPIP score. So it would look like: " DYING_S0UL", " DYING_SOUL"

Difference is fairly obvious with exclamation mark at place of 'i' compared to other similar gymnastics, imo. If somebody gets fooled with such, it'll be on them. ...I wasn't aware the was a zero in his name, luckily no other user has registered DYING_SOUL or else my message would have gone to a scammer! Yo, I also realized just now that it's, 'zero' too. Lol.

When going through some red tagged account I saw this account, and I have also seen familiar accounts that registered with similar names of old members in this forum, and I?m sure other members have seen things like this. To be honest the forum should be programmed or set in a way that anyone who is trying to register new account in this forum and the name he or she wants to use is similar to already existing name in the forum, the registration should not go through. Some people are registering with similar names of old members for scam purposes. Some of you will say red tagging them is just okay but let remember that before we may discover them they may have already achieved their purpose. Same name registration is not allowed, same thing should also go for similar names, especially like the example above. Identity Theft should not be given a chance here. I had never thought about this. Am i at risk for using my old username, with 4 and 1 instead of letters? I understand that this is only valid if you are trying to imitate famous or historical users. like if i type satosh1 i could risk it, it's totally understandable: i had a heart attack.

Let's come up with a nickname sale; it'll be fun. The recent news that the Telegram nickname was sold for two million bucks is good motivation for those who want to throw their money away. https://cybernews.com/crypto/criminals-sell-telegram-username-for-2-2m-ton-blockchainers-celebrate/Last month, someone wanted to use my nickname to punish me for seemingly interfering in someone's life on the forum. Although there really is no problem with the same nicknames. In order for a scammer to achieve his goal, as OP writes, you need to at least stay on this forum for a while and go unnoticed, while newcomers are very impatient with their revenge.
