Sanctions evasion dominated crypto-related illicit finance last year, with state actors including Russia, Iran and North Korea driving a surge in activity, Chainalysis said in a Thursday report.
Sanctioned entities received at least $104 billion in cryptocurrency, an almost eightfold increase on 2024, pushing total illicit onchain volume to a record $154 billion. The findings show how heavily sanctioned states are integrating cryptocurrency into national financial strategies to bypass traditional banking systems.Read in full https://www.coindesk.com/business/2026/03/05/sanctions-evasions-using-crypto-increased-by-700-in-2025-chainalysis
Very interesting. Today, most Americans don't take foreign policy very seriously, as as such probably don't take sanctions--and thus sanctions evasion--very seriously. That too could change if we suffer an attack that actually impacts the lives of Americans (if the price of gasoline goes up for example). What's also interesting is that they are NOT using Bitcoin anymore to do all of these illicit transactions, they are using stablecoins instead. So I guess Bitcoin is useless after all . If the Iranians chose the Euro for moneylaundering instead of the American dollar, will this imply the dollar is useless? Hheeheheh however, if you want your reply to cause the bitcoin maximalists to be triggered, I reckon you should try much harder hehehe. Their decision to switch from using euro instead of American dollar does not mean the USD is already useless. Also that shows that those criminals are better when in terms of diversification compare to those Bitcoin maximalist. We can't deny that even if dollar face lots of controversies this is still the most preferred reserve currency globally, they manage to make dollar have good liquidity then built solid trust that's why they became a dominant currency in the world. Its not surprising to see maximalist will leave some comment that Bitcoin will became a good replacement, but yet we the real situation happened is those launderers still prepare to use fiat than Bitcoin, because this is more desired and well established currency that they want to acquire.

If the Iranians chose the Euro for money laundering instead of the American dollar, will this imply the dollar is useless? Both the dollar and the Euro have other uses (mostly as a measurement mechanism). You don't use a currency per-se for money laundering, but rather a mechanism to move and/or hide money. I get what you were trying to do there but I don't think it worked. [...] however, if you want your reply to cause the bitcoin maximalists to be triggered, I reckon you should try much harder hehehe.
It's like shooting fish in a barrel with those snowflakes, trust me . I am only arguing against your argument that bitcoin is useless because a country has made a decision to use a stablecoin instead of bitcoin. However, if there is a continuance of people who will use bitcoin for moving money or for trading as a speculative asset to get rich quick or for different financial crimes, we can be certain that bitcoin is not useless for these people. It might be useless for you but it will not be useless for other people.

I'm still wondering why posts like this don't come up when bitcoin is bullish, the writer hasn't really followed bitcoin's market history to arrive at this conclusion, because if he has, he would understand that bitcoin had dropped in the past over 50% yet it still recovered. Then there were lots of propaganda claiming that bitcoin is dead and some claimed crypto was gone for good, never to recover as usual.
This writer, linking crypto, especially Bitcoin to Trump shows clearly his bias reasoning. I am going to ignore this one too, nothing meaningful to pick out.
"The technology is useless", that's the most annoying part while reading through that article. I was literally fuming out of anger, because that's not even a topic to be discussed. The writer is a Trump hater, obviously, that is the reason why he would say anything, even without a clue, to hate-talk about Trump and Bitcoin. Why dont he focus on the Epstein files, if he is so eager to deliberate on agendas relating to Trump? I'm not surprised because criticism blinds their sense of reasoning.

I understand your frustration with the statement “the technology has no value” when it comes to talking about specific technologies like Bitcoin. To me this seems to be an opinion rather than an accurate assessment of the underlying technology. There is certainly a place to criticize politicians and their policies; however, when we combine technology with political arguments, emotions become involved and the underlying technologies get lost.

The entire opinion from the op of this thread is just full of bias. This fact was made known when he linked Bitcoin to Trump. Recall that Trump was once a hater of Bitcoin, yet Bitcoin still gained more adoption despite the hate. Now another hater is attributing Bitcoin's growth to Trump.

It appears that someone has written another crypto is useless article to cause triggrance on you and also to trick you to sell your bitcoin to the whales who might be presently buying heheheheh. The Emperor has no wallet Why crypto still hasn’t solved a single everyday problem, argues VerifiedX’s Pollak.
For more than a decade, the cryptocurrency industry has promised to reinvent money. Permissionless. Trustless. Borderless. Immune to the recurring failures of traditional finance.
Yet, commonly cited estimates of global ownership all languish below 10% — and the proportion actually using crypto for payments and other tangible uses is likely even less. After billions in venture funding, endless meme coins and nonstop media cycles, crypto remains a niche product held by a tiny fraction of the world's population. The uncomfortable question is whether crypto has delivered anything indispensable to everyday people.Read in full https://www.coindesk.com/opinion/2026/03/12/the-emperor-has-no-wallet

What People Wanted: A simple and fast way to anonymously send a small amount of money to somebody as easy as sending a text message.
What People Got: A slow, expensive, complicated product that is great for running a pyramid scheme* but useless for small payments.
(* NOT that there's anything wrong with a pyramid scheme, they can be oh-so-entertaining ).

@legiteum. However, while these articles discourage people from buying what they imply is a pyramid scheme, the whales are buying into this implied pyramid scheme on very low prices hehehehehe. After this has pumped, the whales will pay writers to publish very positive articles on this implied pyramid scheme and encourage everyone to buy on very high prices and the whales will dump on everyone's faces with their mouths open and use them as exit liquidity heheeheheh.
