We will not see 2020 type of dump just because of the tension, we are seeing that and will see that because it's the same part of the four year cycle. Tomorrow Iran and USA could share a public peace and show Trump and whoever new Iranian leader is sharing a photo together, hugging, and the price will still go down. Sure short term it could go up, but will go down eventually.

Learn this, war or peace, happy news or sad news, whatever happens in this world, four year cycle always repeats and will repeat in this case too. It's just icing on the cake that we are going to see a war on the same year as the bear year, but by 2027, even if the war continues, we are going to see it start to recover, and by 2029, we could be in world war three and price will go up.

Thank you @summonerrk and @AmoreJaz for bringing the focus to the Operational Reality of this crisis.

In Risk Management, we often look at the 'Domino Effect' you mentioned. When the Strait of Hormuz is blocked for 9 days, we aren't just talking about 'market charts' anymore; we are witnessing a massive Supply Chain Failure. In my field of Quality & Safety (QHSE), this is a critical state where the 'Basic Needs of Humanity' (energy, food transportation) are compromised.

The fact that oil broke $100 and production is shutting down in Iraq/Kuwait creates a 'Negative Feedback Loop'. As @AmoreJaz rightly pointed out, the civilians and the global 'Quality of Life' are the primary victims here.

From a Bitcoin perspective, this situation is the ultimate Stress Test. If traditional logistics and energy systems fail, we see why a decentralized, digital, and borderless network was created in the first place. But as long as the 'Physical World' is in such pain, the 'Digital Safe Haven' might still be overshadowed by the immediate, desperate need for liquidity and energy resources.

Let’s hope those secret diplomatic channels mentioned by @summonerrk can lead to a de-escalation before the 'Systemic Shock' becomes irreversible.

Do you think we are approaching a threshold where the "Safe Haven" utility will finally outweigh the "Panic Liquidity" reflex?

I am not so sure, I dont think "safe haven" will outweigh "Panic Liquidity".

I am basing this on my belief that Irans leadership is more cohesive and the military more resilient then we
the general public are led to believe by the main stream media who are not providing us with the facts of what
is happening.

With Irans resilience in mind this will lead to a longer than expected war which in turn could pull China and
Russia in as well. If that happens panicshort term and pressure selling will increase because
of a possible global economic crisis as more and more oil is blown up which is NONSENSICAL .

I see your point, @aoluain. You are shifting the focus from a 'Sudden Shock' to a 'Long-term Systemic Failure'.

From a risk assessment perspective, if the conflict drags on and draws in major powers like Russia and China, we are no longer talking about a market 'dip', but a fundamental breakdown of global supply chains and energy security. In that case, the 'Panic for Cash' isn't just an emotion; it becomes a survival necessity for businesses and individuals to cover rising operational costs (fuel, electricity).

However, if we reach that point of 'Global Friction' where traditional fiat rails become tools of war (sanctions, frozen accounts), wouldn't the 'Safe Haven' narrative shift from Price Appreciation to Functional Utility?

Even if the market price drops because people need cash, the fact that the network remains 'UP' (Business Continuity) while the global financial system is 'Fractured' would be the ultimate proof of Quality. It’s the difference between a system that is 'Cheap' and a system that is 'Operational'.

I agree with you: as long as people can still choose between FIAT and BTC, the 'Panic for Cash' will likely win. The real decoupling only happens when the traditional choice is no longer viable.

Interesting take, @SquallLeonhart. You are basically saying that the Halving Cycle is the 'Hard-coded DNA' of the system, and everything else even a potential WW3 is just external noise or icing on the cake.

From a Quality & Reliability Engineering perspective, I find this fascinating. It’s like saying the Bitcoin protocol is an Inertial System: once the trajectory is set by the 4year mathematical cycle, external forces (geopolitics, news, wars) can create short-term friction, but they cannot change the fundamental momentum.

If I follow your logic, the 'Bear year' of 2026 was scheduled regardless of the Middle East tensions. In my field, we would call the 4year cycle the Primary Variable and the war a 'Secondary Disturbance'.

However, don't you think a 'Black Swan' event (like the 2020 crash you mentioned) could temporarily break the 'mathematical' path by creating a massive liquidity vacuum? Or is the network's difficulty adjustment and supply schedule now so robust that even global chaos is priced in?

It’s a bold perspective to say that by 2029 (WW3 or not), the cycle will simply do its job. It’s the ultimate test of Lindy Effect vs. Macro Reality.

@DrBeer, you raise a critical "Worst-Case Scenario" regarding infrastructure. You are right that without electricity, a private key is just a string of characters. But looking at it through a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) lens, Bitcoin is the only asset that can be "re-activated" anywhere in the world once you cross a border and find a socket. Gold is heavy and risky to move; cash devalues. Bitcoin is portable intelligence.

It’s not as simple as we might like it to be. Blockchain is a massive infrastructure.
Key components:
- mining farms
- network nodes for transmitting transactions

And that means you can’t just show up, find an outlet, and have everything work—it won’t happen. Miners need to be running—without them, transactions won’t be signed. Nodes need to be running. You need the INTERNET.
As we know, Iran’s terrorist regime is now officially declaring and attempting attacks not only on peaceful neighboring countries but also on high-tech hubs—data centers, offices of tech giants. I suspect they will soon start cutting the cables of the global network.
They want chaos and a “Stone Age”; that is their goal, where they will appoint themselves as “gods.” Therefore, I wouldn’t be so optimistic about cryptocurrencies, which are critically dependent on high-tech infrastructure.

@DrBeer You raise a very real concern, DrBeer. Physical infrastructure is indeed the Achilles' heel of any digital system.

Writing from Morocco, I often think about this because we are at a major crossroads for undersea cables connecting Europe and Africa. If those physical links are cut, a whole region could go dark.

From a QHSE perspective, we look at this through the lens of geographic redundancy. Even if terrestrial cables are cut in one area, the network is designed to survive as long as nodes stay connected elsewhere. Projects like the Blockstream Satellite are interesting here because they decouple the ledger from the undersea infrastructure.

The difficulty adjustment is another built-in safety measure. If 50% or even 80% of mining farms go dark due to infrastructure attacks, the protocol self-heals to ensure blocks keep moving with whatever hashrate remains globally.

In a "Stone Age" scenario, gold is king for local trade, but Bitcoin remains the most indestructible archive of property rights ever built. You might lose local access, but you don't lose your assets.

Oil volatility has once again become the main global macro factor, forming a domino effect throughout the financial system.
Brent above $100 creates a chain reaction throughout the global supply chain.
Businesses cannot plan costs, logistics is becoming more expensive, and margins are shrinking.
As inflation risks and expectations rise, bond yields rise, while rising oil prices and the risk of stagflation weigh on stocks.
The DXY broke through the 100 level today, its peak values since the end of November, and continues to draw liquidity from other assets.

You are touching on the economic side of the "Stone Age" risk @DrBeer mentioned.

From a QHSE perspective, $100+ oil isn't just a price tag; it's a massive increase in "Systemic Friction." While DrBeer is right that Bitcoin needs high-tech infrastructure, we have to remember that traditional banking and SWIFT are even more dependent on stable energy and physical logistics to function.

Writing from Morocco, I see how energy costs immediately impact our trade routes. If global supply chains break, the value of a neutral, borderless settlement layer might actually increase, even if the "on-ramps" become harder to access.

In a world of broken logistics, the most resilient system is the one that doesn't need a central physical vault or a massive administrative headquarters to prove you own your assets.

Do you think we are approaching a point where the market will finally value "Uptime and Resilience" over simple "Liquidity"?

I agree, it is really not that easy to defeat a oil price hike, it is not an army, it's not a nation, it is not terrorists, it is just an asset and a type of energy that we use. When you have all of that, it becomes a bit harder to handle all of this, and we suddenly become a bit more troubled with it.

We cannot defeat "price increases" because that's not how it works and we just have to handle whatever we can and save during this time. It is not going to be easy, we are going to see this be a lot more troublesome and as long as we can save during this time, we will do better when all goes up again. Investment when it's all down, is the best way.

You're right that we can't defeat price hikes, but we can opt out of the system that debases our purchasing power to fund these conflicts. Oil and logistics costs are tied to the legacy financial rail. Bitcoin's resilience isn't just about price; it's about the network's ability to operate independently of the shipping lanes or oil pipelines. This is the ultimate stress test: seeing if BTC can hold its role as 'digital gold' when the traditional supply chain is breaking down.

Yes, the internet is designed to be fairly secure, but... It is designed to ensure continuity in the event of accidental network disruptions, not deliberate sabotage. For example, damaged backbone links will keep network segments operational but cannot guarantee the functioning of the GLOBAL network.
Nature can disrupt part of the network, but humans can deliberately destroy critical nodes....

And yes, I agree - a good service that you can’t use is a useless service!

P.S. Back when I used to travel the world a lot, I visited Morocco - it’s a beautiful country! Smiley

Thanks for the welcome back to Morocco, @DrBeer!

From a QHSE risk assessment perspective, your point on deliberate sabotage is the real black swan. If physical backbones are cut, we face network fragmentation.

Do you think Satellite-based nodes or Mesh networks are the only way to bypass such physical censorship, or would we simply see regional BTC prices in disconnected zones?

Resilience must become physical-layer independent to remain useful.

A satellite network—as strange as it may sound—depends on ground-based consolidation points. A satellite network like Starlink isn’t self-contained; its traffic is routed through ground-based channels via “base stations.”
Disrupting their backbones or consolidation points would also lead to negative consequences. But here the situation could be even worse—if the Starlink network’s core nodes were taken out of commission, the satellites would simply be floating in the air… but there would be no traffic.

By the way, I’ve been using Starlink since 2022.
I have it in the office, at a rural location, and in my car—it works perfectly!

P.S. When the war in my country ends, I’ll continue traveling and would love to visit Morocco again; this country makes a very strong impression, plus the history,  nature, cuisine, architecture, ...

My vision for physical layer independence is that true resilience against Black Swan events requires us to eventually bypass even those stations using Mesh/LoRa hybrid protocols.

Safe travels back to Morocco once peace returns to your country. The first tea is on me! Best of luck with your setup.

Middle East escalation: Another 2020 style crash or a real decoupling !

Hi guys,

I’ve been following the news about the Middle East tensions lately the risks between Iran, Israel, and the US are starting to feel like a real "war spirit" is hanging over the markets. It’s hard not to think about how this is going to hit Bitcoin.

I’m currently finishing my Master's in Quality & Safety (QHSE), so I’m always looking at how systems handle extreme shocks. If we look back at March 2020, it was a brutal stress test. BTC dropped 50% in a day because people panicked for cash. But the real "Quality" wasn't in the price, it was in the recovery it proved the network is more resilient than traditional finance.

Now, with talk of WW3 or major regional conflicts, are we heading for the same scenario? In my field, we say a system's true strength is shown during a crisis. If global systems face real friction, Bitcoin's borderless nature becomes its main safety feature.

What do you think? Are we going to see a 2020 style dump for cash first if things escalate, or is Bitcoin finally ready to act as a "Safe Haven" from day one this time?

Stay safe.

Talking about middle east tension, i want to see these conflict not from technical or financial perspective only. Lets discuss it from psychological and global narative perspective. In many parts of the world, especially among Moslem, Middle east tension being observed and studied based on the prophet's explanation. So every movement in there especially the areas around Palestine, Syria and the surrounding areas are believed to be the center of major conflicts before the end of time. For Iran, there are narative that the worst person in human civilization will appear with its troop from one of region in Iran. Another narative that existing, political entities including Israel are not permanent, and will experience collapse or significant change in the future. Before moving toward new structure, middle east will face phase of full conflict, crisis even starvation, and uncertainty. The most important thing is the narrative that states, only the gold and silver will be valid at the end of time.

Regardless whether it is true or not, what we learn that narrative influence behavior, human perception bring real risk, with this narrative sense of urgency and fear increase and change the way people reviewing risk and can trigger or encourage impulsive / panic or even extrem decision. Matter of fact market moves not only based on data, but also on perceptions, fears, and collective beliefs. Existing system questioned and loses trust, in these situation there are tendency people seek assets that don't rely to state institution and Bitcoin will be an alternative asset with its ability to recover from a crash, but for survivability i think gold and silver function can be use during extrem condition.

I’m glad you brought up the psychological and narrative side of this, abhisheshakana. Everyone is staring at the charts, but they forget that markets are just a collection of human fears and beliefs.

Working in Quality & Safety (QHSE), we’re trained to look for "single points of failure." In a major conflict, the biggest failure point is trust in centralized institutions. You mentioned gold and silver they’ve been the go to for thousands of years because they don't rely on a government's promise. But in 2026, physical assets are a liability if you need to move quickly. You can’t put a gold bar in a brain wallet. Smiley

Bitcoin is the first Safe Haven that is both borderless and weightless. ....If we see a 2020 style dump, it’ll just be a panic for liquidity. The real Quality test is what happens next: does the network keep producing blocks while the legacy system freezes?

Narratives change, but math doesn't care about borders or conflicts. Bitcoin isn't just a hedge; it’s an exit.

Stay safe.

Iran's numerous attacks on European infrastructure (including ports, NATO logistics hubs in the Mediterranean, and LNG terminals in Italy, Greece, Romania, as well as bases in Cyprus and the UAE with a European presence) were part of the escalation of the war, but markets reacted muted.
BTC near a $70k.
The key risk in the coming days is an escalation of the war in the region: further attacks on infrastructure and the sustained closure of Hormuz – the IEA already describes the current situation as the worst in history in terms of the scale of disruptions.

I think your thoughts is more factual, no sign of crackdown or backing out many threat keep pumping left right and center, people can't complete state what the war will end because the more the people are push to the hardship as oil keep increasing in price due to this war or closure of the strait of Hormuz so will panic in investor to sell some asset, it could be vise versa dir those who is planning to invest if there is a price drop or dip in the market. Iran could be tough to be overpowered by the Us and isreal force as planned but before they achieve such there must be some level of damages both economically and otherwise course by their resilience one should not expect same thing on COVID as this is two different senairo even the Russia war with Ukraine is two different because of the global oil market strait of Hormuz.

Dump-or-safe-haven is a traders question. Traders questions are boring to me, especially right now when the thing that's actually happening is so much weirder and more significant than price action.

As soon as the strikes began, Iranian citizens began transferring money out of the Rial into crypto. Iranian exchange outflows shot up at once. And this is a group of people who have been utilizing crypto over the years due to the fact that their banking system is a political weapon against them. It is the wrong screen we are viewing. The significant one is going on in Tehran. Or in Kyiv. According to the source, Ukraine got between two hundred million and a million crypto-help. UNHCR is testing the payment of displaced individuals with stablecoins.

When all other financial systems turn into a geopolitical weapon, weaponized, frozen, cut off, does a monetary network continue to operate? That's what you're studying. And that by that measure Bitcoin is passing tests that gold could never pass. Gold is physical and physical in that it is capable of being captured, clogged, banned, purviewed.

The 2020 comparison doesn't hold anymore. Today is an architecture that is different. Same foundation, re-built it underneath. Such as stress-testing a building, and then re-engineering the foundation. And then compared the new test and the old one as though it is the same building. It isn't.

The discussion of WW3 becomes mad within a short time. Since in the event of large-scale conflict, the price chart ceases to be the point. Survivity of the network infrastructure? This and submarine cable failure scenarios were actually studied by Cambridge research, and the conclusion was approximate that you would need to cut off more than 72-90 percent of all undersea cables in the world to significantly disconnect Bitcoin nodes. It is physically not possible to coordinate that. But blackouts of the internet regionally? Internet kill switches? Governments blocking the CEX? Those can be and are likely and none of them appear on a price chart.

@bubilas @Uhwuchukwu53 @slapper

The "muted" reaction Bubilas mentioned is perhaps the most fascinating part of this cycle. In previous years, an escalation involving LNG terminals and NATO hubs would have sent BTC into a decoupling frenzy.

I think we are seeing a shift in the "Panic Liquidity" reflex. People are starting to realize that in a world where the financial system is used as a kinetic weapon (freezing assets, SWIFT bans), holding a neutral, non-state asset is no longer a "hedge" it's a requirement for operational continuity.

However, we must be careful with the "Safe Haven" narrative. As long as BTC is tied to the global liquidity taps, it will feel the pressure of a margin-call economy. The real "threshold" is crossed when the Rial-to-Crypto or local-fiat-to-Crypto volume outweighs the USD-pair speculative volume. That’s when the network truly passes the resilience test.

My vision for physical layer independence is that true resilience against Black Swan events requires us to eventually bypass even those stations using Mesh/LoRa hybrid protocols.

Safe travels back to Morocco once peace returns to your country. The first tea is on me! Best of luck with your setup.[/size]

Yes, from a technological standpoint, decentralized, distributed networks without central control nodes are perhaps the only viable solution to potential global problems or limitations. I hope technology will provide such a solution!

It’s very nice to hear your words! Thank you for your kind wishes and for the Moroccan traditions of kindness and hospitality! I will gladly accept your offer with great joy and gratitude!
Peace and prosperity to your country, your people, and to you!

Thank you for your kind words, DrBeer! It is truly heartening to see that technology can build bridges where borders often create walls.

Regarding the network, I believe the real challenge for Mesh/LoRa will be managing the throughput and latency at scale, but as you said, decentralized solutions are the only way to ensure we remain connected even when the "plugs" are pulled.

The invitation for that Moroccan tea stands forever. May we all see a future where these decentralized tools are used for peace and progress rather than survival.

Peace and prosperity to you as well!
