Want to share a cautionary story about something that just happened to me with Apple and the iPhone storage system.

Apple has a feature called “Offload Unused Apps.” As far as I understand, it removes apps when you’re low on storage but keeps the app data so that when you reinstall the app, everything is restored. The important part: on my phone this feature was turned off.

At some point my phone ran low on storage and iOS showed a message saying it was removing an app that I supposedly didn’t use often. It also said that when the app is restored, the data will come back.

The problem is that the app it removed was Trust Wallet, which I actually use almost every day. I had recently created a new wallet there, received funds, and hadn’t backed up the seed phrase yet because it was meant to be a temporary wallet.

After the app was removed and later reinstalled, the wallet data was gone.

I contacted Apple Support and their response was basically: “This is not typical behavior for our system. We will investigate.” But they also made it clear that they don’t take any responsibility for data loss.

I know that I am an idiot that didn't backed up seed phrase, but this is risk I was never warned about. I always though apple is top on the market and can be used as reliable data storage, but it's not. So want to warn you about that.
