This thread introduces a small experiment called LitecoinII (LC2).

About LitecoinII:
Similar to BitcoinII (BC2), the idea behind the project is simple: launch a fresh blockchain starting from the same strong foundation.

Only this time with LitecoinII, the goal is just to follow Litecoin’s development and keep updating the code whenever Litecoin releases new stable versions.

Litecoin (LTC) itself was originally launched in 2011. Many people discovered it years later and often mention missing the early days when everything was just beginning.

LitecoinII is not meant to replace or compete with Litecoin. Litecoin already proved itself over many years.

This is simply an attempt to create a clean blockchain based on the latest stable Litecoin software and see whether a small community forms around it!

The project starts from the same Litecoin release (v0.21.4), but uses a slightly different tag: v0.21.4.0. This makes it easier to keep Litecoin’s original commit history in the repository while clearly separating the commits related to LitecoinII.

The master branch is used as a development branch and will stay synced with Litecoin’s own master branch so new upstream commits can be followed as they appear.

For stability, the default branch is currently 0.21, which corresponds to Litecoin’s latest stable version.

What's different?
LitecoinII follows the same parameters as the original Litecoin: the same block time of 2.5 minutes (4 times less than Bitcoin) and the same block reward schedule with 50 initial block reward, 84 million max supply, halving every 840,000 blocks, a difficulty adjustment every 2,016 blocks and of course the SCRYPT mining algorithm!

The only differences are a brand new genesis block and different network magic bytes, which ensures there can never be any conflict with the original Litecoin network. Different ports: 9223 for P2P and 9222 for RPC.

From there, the chain simply starts from zero — similar to how Litecoin began back in 2011.

There is absolutely no premine and no blocks were mined before this announcement.

Some basic infrastructure is already prepared, including servers and domains. The blockchain side is running currently at block height 0, but a project like this really depends on people who want to build around it. I will try to compile wallets for Windows and Linux and publish them on Github.

Help is welcome from anyone interested, including miners of course, mining pools, mobile wallet developers (Android / iOS) if possible, non-custodial wallets (web wallets, light wallets, etc.), mempool explorers would be amazing, standard block explorers and other developer tools!

Nothing is rushed and there are no big promises — just a simple open project built on Litecoin’s technology....

At this stage, the project is very open and community-driven. Anyone interested in contributing to the ecosystem around LC2 would be very welcome.
