When is the next bitcoin?

Asking something like this on this forum, I think the majority of people will defend Bitcoin and say that it's the best right now, and I would also say the same thing, that Bitcoin is the best right now.
Regardless of whether in the future there will be a much more advanced invention that people might call the 'next Bitcoin', but I believe that for the next few decades, Bitcoin will still be the choice of more people because you won't be able to find another digital asset with the level of decentralization, security, and trust that Bitcoin offers.

This is more than Bitcoin being the best right now or we here in the forum defending Bitcoin. As long as the world exists, new innovations will keep coming up; innovations that may bear some resemblance with Bitcoin or that may have features better than Bitcoin. We can never say never, anything is possible. But what is wrong with the op is the idea that another Bitcoin may likely come. Bitcoin is already fixed at 21million bitcoins and it will remain so for ever. What ever innovation that would come will not be considered an addition to Bitcoin or a duplicate Bitcoin. Bitcoin is Bitcoin, anything that is not the Bitcoin we have now can never be said to be Bitcoin.

The Bitcoin you use today is certainly not the Bitcoin of 15 years ago. Satoshi did the right thing by handing over all further improvements to contributors, ensuring it will continue to meet the fintech challenges of the future.
If there were to be another "Bitcoin", it would probably run on infrastructure other than the internet. Let's say it worked on bluetooth, radio frequencies, or something else; that's if Bitcoin hadn't been developed that far.

We have even seen a lot from several projects that exist today that from the beginning wanted to try to become the next bitcoin but all of them failed which made them switch to following bitcoin so that things like making “the next bitcoin” will continue to exist only for the final result it is clearly difficult especially for now we know that bitcoin is something that can even be considered impossible to pass for now.

Although the future is increasingly sophisticated in terms of technology but trying to create the next bitcoin is not easy because there needs to be other beliefs that must be owned like we believe in bitcoin today and it will not be able to be done for a short time because even if there are new projects and claim they will be the next bitcoin then it is certain that it will die first.

Bitcoin has already lasted longer than its predecessors. I don’t see it being easily replaced at this point. Digital money will continue to evolve, but I don’t necessarily believe there will be a “next Bitcoin”. Bitcoin could continue to improve technologically to where we wouldn’t need a newer alternative. If something did come along to supplant Bitcoin, it would likely be more centralized and make many tradeoffs for the sake of having greater adoption.

I think he's asking about it metaphorically. Since bitcoin is upgradeable based on consensus, instead of creating the next bitcoin we could just upgrade it to be the better version of bitcoin since bitcoin is founded based on existing cryptography knowledge.

It's hard to think we could create something better than bitcoin while bitcoin itself is state of art technology.

Bitcoin is perfect. What do you mean by "a better Bitcoin"? Do you have any ideas about how to make Bitcoin better? Why do you share them with us? I believe that there won't be a "next Bitcoin". The AI economy(or AGI economy) that is coming might make cryptocurrencies and fiat obsolete. Or maybe World War III will happen and the human kind will disappear. Or maybe AI will get crazy and kill all humans with a deadly virus. Nobody knows what will happen after 30 years, so making predictions about a "next Bitcoin" is kinda pointless. There are 100 forum threads about Bitcoin's predecessors. There's no need to make one more.

Will there be another or a 'better' bitcoin in 30 years or so?

There is only one Bitcoin, and the good news is that Bitcoin is upgradeable, so there is no need for another Bitcoin to meet future needs. If in case, there is a new form of monetary system, it would not be called Bitcoin nor can be considered another Bitcoin, but a unique system itself.  But is there really a need for another monetary sytem in the next 30 years?  I think no because the world have yet to capitalize the potential of the current emerging monetary system.

We can not predict the future because we don’t know what the future holds but with the way bitcoin is going now I don’t think there will be another that will be better than Bitcoin, we have seen many things like before bitcoin and they did not get to to the level where bitcoin is today, in the next 30 years we don’t know what will happen, maybe there will be another big investment that will get close to bitcoin but I don’t think it will be do better than bitcoin, we all see the way bitcoin is and how it has wins people heart, it takes time before people start believing in bitcoin and we see as the best thing to do to have a good future. For me, it will be very difficult to have another investment or coin that will be able to surpass bitcoin.

I think the next Bitcoin is Nowhere near but it doesn't mean there will be no Progression in The financial system and Bitcoin will be the only Asset or Choice people Will Have. With Time New technologies Emerge and Who knows Some place in Time Bitcoin Becomes an asset with Privacy flaws because of Super Computers Etc, so I think Advancements won't stop On Bitcoin and there will be better things but For at least 150 to 200 years BTC isn't going nowhere as the Risks that may arise in this time period it can be fixed with forks and updates but only till there is no flaw that is too Big or Severe to be fixed.

The economies of some countries are already weakening, and policies are increasingly leaning toward total control and higher taxes. Even in the past, futurists and ordinary paranoid were concerned about this. Bitcoin, in essence, was and still is one of the possible solutions to such issues. We can invest in it to preserve what we’ve earned, and we can use it for transactions to avoid involving government financial control systems. For now, it seems to be one of the most reliable options.I think a new alternative will appear when bitcoin itself starts to weaken. Whether that will happen within the next 30 years is possible, technology is developing at an incredible pace, and information and opinions change almost daily. That’s why it’s important to stay flexible and be able to adapt, and not to focus on just one direction, even if it’s bitcoin.

Before bitcoin became what it is now, there were numerous attempts first from others back then. Obviously, none of them were able to reach the success that bitcoin was able to reach. But it is still good to acknowledge the steps humanity have taken in order to arrive to such a sophisticated and advanced technology that bitcoin is today.

In 1981, David Chaum already had an idea about untraceable email addresses. His work pioneered privacy and led to the creation of privacy tools like Tor browser. 8 years later, Chaum founded DigiCash which paved way for what we would know now as digital currencies. It was bankrupted though but he had the right ideas even before the 90s. The problem with DigiCash was stated by Chaum:

Chaum said in an interview in 1999 that the company's problem scaling was due to a classic chicken and egg problem in the technology industry: "It was hard to get enough merchants to accept it, so that you could get enough consumers to use it, or vice versa."

The next milestone was e-gold. Founded by Douglas Jackson and Barry Downey in 1996, e-gold as stated in its name was backed by gold reserves. The struggle with e-gold was two things: it only had one point of failure because it was only maintained by a single company. The next struggle was that it faced regulatory issues because e-gold was used by launderers. While Jackson and the team tried to counter the criminal use of E-gold, they were ultimately found guilty of running an unlicensed money transmission enterprise, and the venture was shut down.

In 1998, Wei Dai proposed the b-money. This was an alternative peer to peer financial system. B-money never actually launched but Wei Dai's proposals seemed very similar to what we know now as stablecoins since b-money was tied to a certain commodity.

Finally 2008 was the year that bitcoin was invented. It took almost 30 years since David Chaum's first idea for someone to finally get it right in the form of bitcoin. It may have been even longer. Technology took a long time to come to where it is now and technology may keep developing in the future. Will there be another or a 'better' bitcoin in 30 years or so?

Before Bitcoin, there were many earlier attempts, including digital ones. Nick Szabo created Bit Gold, but it was never successfully implemented.People tried using all kinds of things as money: shells, glass beads, livestock, salt, tea, rice, Rai stones, whale teeth, feathers, and many others. In the end, gold prevailed because none of those things had the monetary properties that good money needs as well as gold did.Only with Bitcoin and the digital age did it become possible to create a superior form of money. People have been searching for good money ever since they began to trade.Could something better than Bitcoin appear in the future? It is possible, but very unlikely. Gold remained dominant for around 5,000 years Bitcoin will most likely be the money we use for the next thousands of years. Maybe sometime in the distant future, a better technology will appear that allows us to create an even better form of money.
