Can there be positive sides of addiction?
I have never found a psychologist or my personal view of those who are addicted to gambling as having a positive side, on the contrary, substantially I see gambling addiction as being more negative. The negative side is mental damage, depression, physical, financial and so on which is worse than the negative impact, namely someone who is addicted can commit criminal behavior, debt which is the impact of gambling addiction can cause problems for themselves and many people.

Simply put, addiction to gambling or any other activities is not good and would surely lead to ruin. There is no other outcome that's to be expected from addiction to gambling or any other activity asides destruction in the long run. I'm not so sure about "mastering the craft" so well that you primarily depend on gambling to make ends meet. That's not healthy as the individual has taken to gambling as a means of making money to sustain his lifestyle. Gambling does not and would provide a certain amount of money on a regular and specific time like a literal job would. Gambling addiction doesn't have a positive side to it. It is dangerous and everyone should be cautious lest you fall into its dark and deep deep embrace.

We can be bias and say that there are some positive sides of it. But if we're going to open our minds, we'll all agree that gambling addiction is mostly about giving us negative sides of it. The effect that it is giving us can't be justified and debated because most results to every gambler is bad. So, with that having said, if there will be a positive side of it. It's about how bias we are in it and the minimal positive impacts that it has given to someone for which I can't think of any.

When someone is involved in gambling for a long time due to addiction, the amount of losses also increases over that long period of time. Addiction is mainly caused by loss of control, due to which they make emotional decisions instead of planning and making right decisions based on logic. Those who choose gambling as a way of earning income are the ones who are most addicted. Gambling should never be considered a reliable source of income because its results are uncertain. Those who see gambling as entertainment gamble within their own limitations, due to which their losses are limited. Due to which small losses do not affect a person much.

.. what do we call that? Can an addiction truly be considered positive if the outcome is beneficial?
I can consider addiction as harmful; it's a compulsive behavior that lets you do things without control, and if you have no control, you neglect everything, and you may even bet all your money. I don't see any positive effects of gambling. A compulsive gambler may be winning, but he will eventually lose everything once the house takes over and regains what it lost. If you think that you are addicted, you have to find a way to get out of there, even if you are doing well, because eventually you will lose your well-being. We should never praise addiction to vices because its bad for us.

A player that uses his gambling wins to fund another lifestyle cannot be said to be addicted to gambling. To such player, gambling is good and paying the bills which might be the lifestyle and if he need to stop anything or make any adjustments, it should be on his lifestyle and not the gambling because he is able to gamble, win and make withdrawals. Addiction is only noticed when a player is not making progress yet he cannot stop gambling.

Excessiveness which happens in the situation of addiction, eventually leads to negativity in one way or the other... And thats why moderacy always still remain the key to success.... Addiction is automatically bad irrespective of whether gambler's profit from it or not... The thing about addiction is that the affected individual is in a position of bondage whereby they literally lack the freedom to break free/ or controlling themselves and this alone proves why there aren't any positivity attached to addiction even though sometimes the outcome is beneficial(like in the case of having some win as exemplified by the OP)...And let's not also forget that consistent winning isn't always a reality in gambling.. There are times where losses may occur, and if one is an addict, he will not have the freedom to stop or take a step back to make reassessment...

On reading the op's title I was wondering and questioning myself how what could be the positive sides of gambling addiction that I am missing. There's nothing good to be compared from gambling addiction that should have to encourage any addict about his addiction problem. We shouldn't be encouraging people that there's any positive side of addiction else they might feel comfortable with what they should be fighting against to save self from.

When a person is able to make money through gambling and survive off it then outwardly it appears to be controlled. However the issue lies in the fact that gambling is highly unpredictable and you may win today but may lose tomorrow and treating it as an income that is here to stay is a little risky. Therefore, I believe that addiction is not fully comprehended when you lose it or cannot quit. In case a person is totally addicted to gambling in his life that is a type of risky situation as well. Since they are at that time playing not out of choice, but out of necessity. So I would say the real question is whether they can control and whether they can stop in case they wish. This is the most significant location.

Of course, we should not look for positive aspects in players’ dependence, but nevertheless, many players do not give up and try to fight, it is very difficult. I would like to say that it is probably positive when a player has experience overcoming addiction, although I understand that this is rare. In general, it seems to me that the player needs to personally think about different aspects of the game and work on himself.

I think it's really weird to call an addiction positive because no matter the outcome, it's an uncontrollable habit. So even if the person's gambling addiction is making them good money and it is supporting their lifestyle, I still feel it is not positive because they can't control themselves. Addiction is still an addiction because there is no freedom, no matter how good the outcome is.
I do completely understand the perspective of an addiction being the driving force behind someone excelling at something, like even mastering a skill or even being really disciplined in a wired way, so yeah, in some cases addiction can be positive for a while. But if you are addicted to something and you can not walk away from it, that is not a good thing at all. Real winning in life is doing what you love but it should be in your own terms, and not what you are being forced to do because you are addicted to it.

Anything in excess is not good, addiction cannot be justified even if you get massive profits to meet your needs, but in gambling it is very difficult to achieve having such great skills, many people still fail until old and there is no clear victory from gambling, even I think that professional gamblers are less than traders whose success rate is below 5% on average.
Addiction is poison to you, because it can kill any person with silly actions.

While writing a reply to a thread, a thought about addiction crossed my mind. We usually describe addiction as something that ruins a person, whether through gambling or other destructive behaviors. However, I started wondering if it is possible for an addiction to have a positive impact on someone's life. Consider a gambler who is addicted but has mastered the craft so well that their winnings consistently fund their entire lifestyle. Even though they cannot stop gambling, their success supports them financially. In this scenario, should we still view such a lifestyle as an addiction, or is it something positive? Generally, society imagines an addict as someone whose life has been ruined and who has become a liability to their family and community. But if the compulsion leads to success and stability, what do we call that? Can an addiction truly be considered positive if the outcome is beneficial?
There is no positive side to gambling addiction, once one gets addicted to gambling, he will not get any benefit in any way. Because when a person is addicted to gambling, he always likes to gamble and continues gambling with big dreams. And no matter how much he loses, no negativity is created in him about gambling. So he gradually becomes such that if he does not have his own money, he takes loans, sells his hobby things and gambles. And when all the roads are closed, he does not hesitate to do things like stealing and robbing. So I would say that a gambling addict can never be good for anyone and there is no positive side to it.

I don't see any positive aspects to addiction either I've seen cases of addiction in alcoholism, and not much in gambling addiction, only very briefly but any addiction is delicate and should be treated quickly so it's not too late,I agree that stealing shouldn't be allowed, but some gamblers, in their desperation, resort to it, Knowing that the first symptom should be addressed immediately prevents a potential tragedy it's better to come forward to get help.

Addiction at all forms will never bring good, just like any abuse you done will stay irrelevant and undesirable as it is. So I don't see any possibility that addiction creates positive outcome, but in fact it only ruins everything you have even from simple addiction down to severe addiction.
With gambling addiction, who makes a gambler more greedy and restless, even if it means winning a significant amount because you master some strategies and attract luck, but that does not justify that addiction is somehow good, it will always be a form of abuse, and any abuse will always lead to negativity in life.

There is no positive side to addiction, addiction can completely destroy a person, when gambling becomes an addiction in the life of a gambler, the gambler suffers financially, besides, his loved ones start moving away from him, the addicted person does not have a reliable income, as a result, he gets involved in any bad thing for the money of gambling. Gambling takes a terrible form in his life, as a result, the gambler well-organized life is gradually destroyed. Gambling addiction takes a terrible form in life, so it is very important to keep a cool head while gambling and gamble in a disciplined manner.

Yes, it's true if you are addicted to gambling, it is very dangerous and sometimes it leads to a bad place but another thing is that it's not the gambling, it's the addiction. If a person is not in control, then anything can be dangerous. But the thing is, in this case, for gambling, it happens very fast, so it can be said to be more harmful than anything else, It is very hard to break this cycle, so I think the expression there is no good side is not completely untrue but the key thing is to stay in control otherwise it will always come out the same.

It's obvious that what causes addiction in gambling is when your desperate of making wining through gambling, so anyone who is desperate to win, that also lure the person to be addicted on gambling, sometimes, we need to know our limits in gambling and also know that we most not make a profit from gambling always... Without having such concepts or ideas, that a gambler needs to have a budget, limits, and is not suppose to be expecting wining almost every time, the gambler will be fully addicted from gambling without knowing, so it's better to have a particular budget foe gambling so that you will not exceed your limits...

If you are still on the verge of battling addiction, then I don't see any positivity that would result from it, even if you are winning a decent amount but because you are a gambling addict, you still lose all of them in the long run.
But positivity only happens after you have managed to surpass gambling addiction. You learned about better financial management, good emotional disposal, and increased in discipline, everything happens after you successfully addressed all the threats that gambling addiction brings.

Have been thinking at the same time making research to see if there's any positive side of addiction but I seem not to find something reasonable so that is to prove to us that there's no good side of addiction, but if you ask to know the bad side of addiction I'm sure that you will get a lorry loads of informations concerning the bad side of addiction. Yes, there might be a good side of addiction but not in gambling addiction it could be in other activities but not in gambling addiction, but truth is that being addicted is not.
