This problem have always been there with defi projects, they are very prone to getting hacked and it is why I don't like getting too involved with them, I would choose a crypto exchange token over DeFi tokens if I feel like investing in any, but altcoins is a big mess all together, every year they keep getting worse.

Some developers are just stingy as hell cutting corners with the security aspect of their project even though its very crucial. On top of that, most of defi projects are shadow banking. Giving you trash token in exchange for your stablecoin promising yield bearing.

I only trust to put my money on Hyperliquid's HLP and nothing else at this point after drift protocol getting exploited for $285m for dumb social engineering.

drift never was among the most trusted and reputable projects.

there are still no reasons not to trust the defi flagships like uniswap, aave or sky (prev. maker) and they offer nice yields.

The more low level people who do not understand a lick about coding end up doing it themselves or hiring someone else and use AI to code something like this then we are going to see a lot more exploits as well.

If you are not a coder yourself, and you just use AI and do not understand a single thing that is written on that code, or you just hire someone else and because you have no idea about coding they also use AI and give you a working product and you think it's fine, you are going to face problems and this will keep happening. Even before AI it was happening because people did subpar coding, and nowadays it's a lot more because they keep having corrupt and terrible codes in their projects and then they get exploited.

Claude is like 20 bucks a month, and you can use their latest (I think it was named opus 4.6) to make any type of coin or token you want, and it will take 10 minutes of it to make that work, you will not even know what's not working.

It requires literally less than 100 dollars to build a website, and a coin/token and then put on a launchpad if you want to. This is why you are right, there will be a lot of terrible defis out there, with terrible exploits out in the open and keep getting exploited.

This is the reason i'm getting tired of this defi BS. Whenever it gets hacked, it's gonna be the end of defi unless hackers return the funds back. In some cases, the defi developers were begging to hackers to return the funds, which is hilarious.  

Well it's not end of DeFi in general just like it's not end of Memecoins or altcoins when majority of them are rugpulls. Or when centralized exchanges get hacked, people still tend to use them, as only alternative for them is DeFI.

Also asking or begging money back doesn't cost devs anything and it's the least they can do. Personally i see these these as excellent arguments against cryptos, and why experimental blockchain / smart contract tech isn't a greatest choice for financial institutions (or anyone) to trust money with.

The biggest exploit in recent times has to be the exploit that involved Drift Perp DEX on Solana. I say this because people have always paraded solana as a chain that would never get busted in this kind of large exploits and the Drift team have always given the impression that they're better than some of the best teams in the space and I figured that's why they just built in isolation and didn't collaborate much with other projects.

Personally, I don't think DeFi is secure enough for mainstream capital to flow in yet.

Always happens on some forgotten relay chains with 6 figs TVL....

Literally impossible to imagine some exploiter minting new Ethers or SOL on mainnet...

That's the whole point of DeFi. No money = no security.

Naah --- now there is another DeFi Rhea finance NEAR protocol that was exploited with a loss of $7.6M, more and more DeFi are easy to hack, not directly breached but they add liquidity to the new pool, this kind of thing still has weaknesses that they cannot understand, DeFi hacks are now numerous, maybe there will be more exploited Defi in the future. Just be careful.

There are tons of old protocols getting hacked these days. Hackers are getting more sophisticated with the use of AI to analyze smart contract 24/7.
Staking money in an old and low usage protocol is not safe anymore. The developers can't keep up with the attack surface anymore unless they got sufficiently funded.
