Never buy tokens at low prices, CMC positions below 100, let alone low market capitalization, usually will not last long in the market, for the long term the average token like that falls 90% more.

Why do you want to invest in altcoins? If you don’t want to invest in bitcoin, and you prefer altcoins, just take your time to do some research’s about the altcoins available now, and choose the one which you think is the best for you to invest in, but if you are choosing altcoins, it’s better you go for the ones that have been in the market for long, don’t invest in all this new altcoins in the market now.

OP since you are thinking of holding for long term then there is no other alternative for long term holding than Bitcoin as Bitcoin is best for long term holding. So the best advice for you is buy Bitcoin and hodl. Now you can add some altcoins to your portfolio along with buying Bitcoin, if you want you can look at the top coins in the market like BNB, SOL, ETH (but remember altcoins are not best for long term holding) but stay away from shitcoins or memecoins as they are like gambling.

Bitcoin and then few other altcoins in your portfolio os very OK for an investment, most especially for long term sake, when I say few altcoins, I don't mean memecoins, either ethereum, BNB or any other promising coins in the market,  but also try as much as possible to make your portfolio very small in other to be able to mentain it effectively, let say you put in 70% of your total capital in bitcoin and the remaining 30% into other coins since their habe high risk.

I tell lot of people to Do your own research and Do with your own risk, Bitcoin is really a good investment atleast for some people here in the forum I bet 95% people here love bitcoin. The other is have lot of answer we talk about altcoin here.

Altcoin is a little bit tricky because there are tons of it, and altseason does not seem to be here, but my suggestion is try to look the top 100 by marketcap learn each project and you might notice a good project from there and avoid memecoin

Just like OP said, bitcoin is a great investment. If you want to invest into anything that is not bitcoin then the rest is up to you and nobody else. If you really must follow what you are doing as good as you can, then you are going to end up with a bunch of advise because everyone will say their favourite altcoin, and none of them will be a single correct answer.

Because every coin has its day, and you can be right today, wrong tomorrow and you never can know which one will happen. So aside from bitcoin, I suggest everyone to make their own analysis.

Since you already have info on Bitcoin, I will advise you to keep most of the budgeted funds for investment in Bitcoin, and then you can slip the rest into a few top altcoins, but I will never advise you to leave it for a long time without checking up on the roofs to know if things have changed or not because anything can happen during that long holding period.

Doing his own research before anything is the best advice perhaps his every decision should be based on his own conviction and not entirely what anyone is saying, this because if anything goes wrong he will not blame anyone by feeling being mislead, I still recommend Bitcoin also and if he decides getting into  others coins coins then his Bitcoin should be much more than what is going to have in other coins because Bitcoin is what has proven the best among all why it should have more percentage of allocation.

I still feel like SOL was too close to reaching second place and get over ETH, and that failure was something that is not going to happen just once.

There is a good chance that we could see SOL try that again, while it may or may not achieve it, that just means that it will go up in more and we should be considering it doing a lot better for your return.

I will not suggest any cryptocurrency for you to hold for a longer period than Bitcoin, we can do our own research on any coin with sea with prospects but at our own risk, it is also important that we don't suggest any country anyone so they don't get disappointed at the end and we feel guilty of misleading them to make the wrong choice.

I don’t think it’s safe to invest in any altcoins with the aim of keeping it for too long hoping to make profit off it. Most of this altcoins are just pump and dump tokens with no real value or potential, they vanish anytime. The best you could do is to get them while it’s still hot and don’t keep too long before selling. Bitcoin for me is the only cryptocurrency I feel more confident enough to buy and keep for long because it have proven to be one of the most valuable asset in the crypto space such that even if it goes down at some point in time, it still have the potential to improve and increase its price and reach new all time highs.

There is no doubt that Bitcoin is the best investment in crypto industry and if you have spare cash then one can select top alts (in terms of market cap) on CMC. Why I am strong advocate of Bitcoin is because the entire crypto industry depends on price of Bitcoin. If Bitcoin goes up only then we see upward trend in alts, then why not go and invest directly in Bitcoin. By season you mean bear season? Why would you want to buy anything in bear season, especially altcoins? Well technically there's one right in top 20 that i am still planning to buy, but i am afraid that i ran out of time, as if and when it moons it truly moons.

It's UNU SED LEO. Reason why it exists and tokenomics of it are completely different to anything else out there, so you can't really project the rise by looking at the market cap. I am not recommending anyone to buy it, it's just something i am definitely going to buy. I am honestly weirded out how few people are even talking about it.
