There is a point in what you say but it does not work the same way for everyone. Those who plan their spending can avoid overspending even if there are stores nearby. So the main thing is not location but the financial discipline and habits of the person. Many times due to the proximity of stores people make small purchases according to their needs which reduces the pressure of spending big at once. On the other hand some people can use this facility smartly if they follow the rules. So without calling it a bad thing at all it is more important to keep your spending behavior in check.

Essential items can't be ignored, be it near the store or far in the woods, you should buy it and buying in bulk will saves you money that is the fact. But people who are stocking items may spend it more than what they do usually because it feels they got more than enough but one with the discipline even in consuming can be the one to save money here.
This ideology depends on what commodity is that, if it’s something that children get access to very often then be rest assured that it will be misused and finishes early but if it’s actually something that it’s adult that make use of it or have access to, self discipline is key because even if it’s it is not that in bulk an indisciplined person will still mis use it. But in both too cases there have never been a better option than buying in bulk. Stocking most especially essential things in bulk frees the burden and it has proven to be more cost saving. It saves cost on the resources for its transportation, saves cost in periods of inflation and also saves ones energy of going every few days to get same item

Both has it's advantages and disadvantages (that's living far or close to a retail or wholesale businesses), before you can now talk of personal difference which I think makes the major difference. The issue of convenience paradox is true for many people as some other key to their budget or buying list. Convenience paradox in some people is usually associated with over confidence that their cash flow is steady and healthy making them to buy on impromptu. Some buy as long as they like it and can afford it even when it's not part of their plan and this has nothing to do with businesses far or near to you.

There's always a double-edged sword. While you're right to say that being closer to everything within reach can lead to spending too much on unnecessary things, there's always a silver lining. If you have strong principles and good control over your spending, quick access can be a benefit. In today world, even if you live far away, for example in a rural area, there are online stores, meaning distance no longer guarantees savings. The key is always the system you implement.

Having the awareness of this paradox may only be the way to overcome it because if you understand that having shops and other retail outlets close to you may influence you into spending more money, I think you should be able to plan to avoid it. Many people are unaware of this, hence the reason they refuse buying from wholesale shops because there is a retail shop close to them that they can conveniently access. The convenience in access can hurt finance.

It doesn't matter if you have financial control, if you live in the opposite place, it will be very difficult to get access to economic places or job opportunities. And now there are even more delivery messages even though you are in a remote area you can still shop using your cellphone if you want, basically this depends on your personality whether you are disciplined or not in managing money, if you are not disciplined you want to live wherever it is useless because there is always a place to spend money, unless you really live in the forest.

Online shopping has also made it even easier to access anything you want, at least that’s the case in more developed countries. Sometimes I see people getting packages delivered all the time from Amazon and it makes me wonder if they really need all those things. I also prefer shopping online, but I only order supplies that are absolutely necessary. It’s very rare that I’m buying things that would be considered a guilty pleasure or non-essential items.

There are factors that may make these things true. Is it an area where there is nothing else that you will spend the money on? Is it an area where you can't order the things you need online? Are they things you can live a few days without, or are they things you can't live without?
So in my opinion, there is no straight answer to this. I spend more money buying things online than I do buying from the shops, because it's usually groceries I buy from the shops, but online, I buy gadgets and electronics, furniture and home appliances that are much more expensive than groceries. So staying where there are no things around to spend money on doesn't necessarily mean you would spend less money.
Your point about spendings is very logical and its true that our spending habits are mainly depends on out periorities and personal choices and its not limited to certain location. Lets see if an individual is located in a area where limited shops are available its not means that he spent less due less number of shops because online shopping break the physical harriers and now people can buy anything from anywhere. Your point is exactly valid the shops like groceries normally have less prices and on the other hand appliances and other electronics stuff are expensive and have great financial impact. So its shows that nature of priority have more impact then availability of stuff. So its clears that living in a location where less opportunities of spending s are available don't affects the spendings the only thing thats matter is your choice which vary from person to person.

There are many kinds of people in the world, but one thing is for sure, if you are a frugal person ,then you are not going to have trouble wherever you live. You could be living above a store, and never buy from them, as long as you can be a frugal person who doesn't spend money like that.
I have a friend like that, and he lives off his cheap house, and pays no rent, lives in a rundown place, eats ramen and rice and potatoes, and saves every penny. He doesn't eat outside ever, even when we meet, he comes from home after eating so he doesn't eat outside and only drinks coffee, but that's only when he gets out, normally he doesn't even drink coffee, or tea, never spends money outside that way, and doesn't even have any subscriptions like netflix or hbomax or whatever. He owns 4 homes thanks to that.

Within the convenience paradox, spending becomes shorthand for irresponsibility. And, yes, financially, it is bad to spend money without a need. but some of that money is the only framework some people have in their lives. Walk to the shop. Talk to someone. Buy something small. Go home. To others that is literally the day that makes sense.
I do not mean that you should spend money and call it self-care or whatever. That's lazy thinking. But this notion of pretending that the shop is miles away, that is a sort of deceit to oneself that does not work. Your brain is aware that the shop is there. You can not fool yourself in the long run. Man is awful at self-deception in the long term, we always snap.
Living close to shops doesn't make you weak. It simply brings your patterns to light. And the majority of people do not want to see their patterns.

I don't think it's a paradox, it's just more like a convenience effect... more spending opportunities, more exposure. Online & crypto gambling are growing for the same reason... the easier it is, the more often we will engage. Accessibility... At the end of the day, we can choose to save more... but we like to enjoy many things, so we spend money on them. It's close, doesn't require effort or additional cost, so why not?

Wholesale markets, as a rule, differ with the city markets and prices for their goods. Wholesale prices are called wholesale prices because if you buy a lot, you pay less. Isn't that right? If you come to the wholesale market and buy groceries for a week, it still comes out cheaper than daily trips to the store, and the purchase is no longer possible at such "interesting" prices. In addition, such frequent trips, especially on an "empty" stomach, lead to reckless and minute-by-minute expenses that you had not previously thought about. All this is written in many books on the psychology of marketing and is very successfully used in practice.
You're right to some point because if someone keeps walking to the market everyday to purchase what they want, the price of food stuffs and other stuffs might have inflated considering how inflation has wrecked many economy now. But however, buying goods in bulk otherwise wholesale as you call it will mean that the finance has to be available but let's consider a scenario where it involves someone that makes their income on a daily basis, it mean that they will also have to buy things on a daily basis. Apart from that, there might be other needs which means that in order to be able to afford those things with the money you have, it will require that you will have to purchase them in small quantity each. Although, those who live close to the market often loves going the market almost everyday just to buy things, though i don't know the cause of this habit but it is mostly common in rural communities.

Based on below reseach, district which have more retail access has higher consumption figures. Checking to my wife habits, she prefer shopping near house, more closer more often especially for spontaneous shopping (small shopping). On these digital information openess era, people with high social needed tend to spend more that they need becuase social comparison, validity and image. So consumption not only about economy but also considering social & psychology. but we can not make generalization that people who live in desnde retails always has higher expenses or more wastefull, my often shopping but with small items per transaction and based on my wife experiences, do shopping near house more cheaper because can press other unnecessary expenses such as snacking, coffe or hang out and bulk buying, which mean rarely shopping but high expenses per transaction. Other insight, near retail center if we have wastefull habit with high consumption temptation, lifestyle comparison and visual exposure from social media will drive impulsive buying and lifestyle inflation and in the end accumulation of small transaction will be big. So, all depend on individual habit but environtment can make bigger existing tendencies. If you live in such area you must control your budget and cashflow, matter of fact my wife often failed refrain retail temptation, but thanks to God we moved to a small city now. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0969698925002024

This is just the reality of our spending habits these days. People will always choose convenience over anything else, but this convenience doesn’t come without a cost. The cost here is that convenience makes you spend more money because of ease of accessibility. Just like having retail and wholesale shops close by makes one spend impulsively without planning every expenditure rationally, the same way convenience makes people spend more through online shops and services that offer delivery to their doorsteps.
For me, I realized this a long time ago. Before deciding to go for convenience or planning a shopping list to a shop far from home, I weigh the benefits of both options. The option that serves the most benefit at that point in time informs my decision. Sometimes, convenience may just be what you need at a point to solve an urgent need. Both options are not bad; just use them wisely.

Spending out of desire or necessity could be influenced by the proximity of your living space from a retail or wholesale business, which presumes that while one may think they are saving money on wholesale item prices of goods and transportation, they might spend more due to frequency and psychological triggers, which leads to what is called 'the convenience paradox'. Convenience in reality therefore lowers one's psychological barrier and prompts more spending. While many people may decide or be forced to live in high-access areas to cause what is called digital friction just to save themselves from this cost, those that live close by may be wise to plan their list of expenses as if the stores or pubs, both retail or wholesale businesses, were miles away, so as to avoid the trap of the daily walk in. Thus, living in a place close to local retail or wholesale shops with both major and minor businesses, makes one spend more money as compared to living in a place that is far from local retail or wholesale businesses, do you agree? Your opinion is welcomed!
Well... just a random thought, in my opinion To be more precise, the problem you described will arise if a person doesn't exercise self-control, doesn't keep their desires and needs in check, and doesn't know how to manage their money! In my apartment complex, there are tons of stores right in the building, and in my building alone-which has three entrances-there are two stores, two cafes, one pharmacy, and a post office. I take advantage of this when I don’t have the time or desire to drive to a big chain supermarket for some small item. I even often stop by a café for breakfast before work-it’s tasty, convenient, plus it gives people jobs, and I get enjoyment and save time and energy! If I need a kilo of meat right here and now, I’ll buy it at the specialty butcher shop near my house. Especially since they also have a good selection, competitive prices, and personalized service But once every 1–2 weeks, I get in the car and drive to a large supermarket, where we buy our main groceries for that period, and, for example, household cleaning supplies once every 1–3 months. But if I run out of soap and I urgently need to wash my hands-I’ll buy it at the store near my house I think the bigger problem is buying UNNECESSARY goods and products; that’s where we’re really throwing away, in the truest sense of the word, a ton of our money....

Both has it's advantages and disadvantages (that's living far or close to a retail or wholesale businesses), before you can now talk of personal difference which I think makes the major difference. Convenience paradox in some people is usually associated with over confidence that their cash flow is steady and healthy making them to buy on impromptu. Your observations is very real and its true that spending habits of a person is not completely depends on location infact its depends more on individuals mindset. And its also true that when shops are near then many people loss self control and spends a lot of money on spendings without any purpose and these type of individuals have mindset that they are stable so they spend money without any planing and they purchase things just because they like it and for to meet their needs. No doubt distance may effects like if shops are near people buy more but if shops are far away then just little affect is held because the actual thing is mindset. And the wise person always planned the budget and spends according to it. So manage money wisely is an important thing than where you live.

I have a friend who doesn't owe, but recently his habit has changed and he has started owing for groceries just because the shop is just opposite our apartment and the sales person is his good friend. He will always send someone to get anything and it will be given the person after a phone call confirmation. Month end, my friend will calculate all he owes and send to them. He started complaining that it seems he is spending more than usual for groceries. Both myself and him understood why.
What kind of spending is this called?

i may not completely agree with you on this, because they are almost the same thing. living in a place close to local retail or wholesale may make you spend more than a place far from local retail or wholesale, but the thing is that those who come from far will buy those good cheap but the transportation fee and the stress will make the goods to be expensive in the location they are selling it. thus making it the same as that which is close to the local retail or wholesale shop within the neighbourhood. so i prefer living close to the retail or wholesale shop within my premises where i can buy those goods expensive than leaving far away and buying it cheap and still pay transport to my destination which include risk or life and stress involved. sometime the money we pay high is because the goods was shipped to our own convenient that's why it becomes expensive. the high price you pay is for convenient and nothing more.
