To get rid of taxes, wealthy people start buying their assets in the names of others. They know how to protect themselves from the tax laws of the government. One of the main reasons for buying their assets in the names of others is secrecy or hiding their illegal assets.

Most of the rich people of a country build wealth through illegal means, especially those who buy their assets in the names of others, most of them have a stock of illegal assets. Basically, to hide this illegal wealth, they do not buy all the assets in their own name but buy them in the names of others, this is also known as their backup assets so that even if the government confiscates their main assets, they have a backup.

In my country people buy assets in others' names to hide their wealth. Tax you have to pay, either you bought it in your name or in others' names. I am not sure if company names reduce the tax; I assume it would help reduce though. However, in my country corrupted people often buy land or other assets in family members' names or company names. So it does help to hide his wealth besides reducing the tax.

Otherwise, those are big individuals that pay high tax to the government for the big revenue; they shouldn't dare to buy any asset in their name. A lot of doing so in my country, but most of the corrupted people want to hide their wealth here. This is the strongest reason to me why rich people don't want to buy assets in their names.

A friend who is a financial expert sent me some documents on why I shouldn't buy a valuable thing in my name. And I began to regret why I didn't get the information before now. Applying this pattern is essential if you live in a place with security concerns. Buying property through a business or trust will hide your identity and protect you from criminals.

It could also be helpful during legal battles in court. Buying a property in a company's name separates you from the property.  So the property cannot be seized if you are indebted because it doesn't legally belong to you.

It's become a trend, although it has existed, the rich folks have a preference of purchasing assets with names other than theirs, they could use their companies, or even a third party brocker.

One would argue it as a way to reduce tax payable, or not to increase the market value of their holding companies.

What could be other reasons?
That's not true because company do pay tax on their income using company to buy assets can still be tax, most of them just like use their company to buy not to avoid tax, it's their way of life, secondly others do it for family reasons because of their wife, thr rate of high divorce in the society the men are becoming wiser to use their company and Third parties to acquire wealth Incase of divorce, I think  it's a personal thing not to avoid tax, everyone pays tax.

So many very rich people do not buy property in their name especially rich people in countries or from countries where they are heavily taxed(rich people who aren't citizens or staying in a tax effective nation don't have a problem), these rich people may not buy properties in their names but they aren't buying it in the name of others.
These rich people may set up a company, trust fund, charity organization and buy it in the name of their set up and then put things in place which will enable them escape tax from their bought properties.

Mostly it is to reduce the tax, when an individual owns assets, the taxes will be much higher relatively, it is in the name of a company because they can wirte off expenses while paying the taxes and buying in the name of others is to protect the assets, the trend is common among young individuals like atheletes, celebrities and who are in the stage of getting married because there is another trend that women come in a just claim 50% of their wealth when they want a divorce.

Spreading assets are sometimes advisable for wealthy people, commonly wealthy men always get back and forth with federal authorities in terms of money and properties. Owning this assets in a single account might get attention of so many not just an attention probably a questionable one that calls for arrest definitely this is a risky move when get caught and there’s nothing to prove not minding being a business owner or company besides company get tax monthly including individual, tax is also a major reason though.

There's possible two reasons why the rich do this, and one is to beat tax and avoid paying paying multiple tax which may come from these properties. The second thing is that this method is used by the political class and even sometimes by the rich and wealthy to launder money and even to hide property not to get to the notice of the law enforcement, if not I don't know the reason why someone will be using a proxy means in acquiring a property.

This has been happening much longer than they think. The contemporary form of LLCs and offshore accounts is new. But the acting of it? Ownership has been concealed by proxies by rulers and merchants over centuries. As soon as your name is connected with great wealth you are a political target. Visibly wealthy history is not good in turbulent times.

Normal people are practically deprived of privacy. Your expenditure is monitored, your property is on the books, your tax returns are processed by systems that can be accessed by various agencies. In the meantime a person with sufficient funds can own a half block of the city under a company incorporated in Wyoming and no one would know. The system is an incentive to be opaque.

It equivalent to ego protection. Sounds small but it's not. When you possess something in common and it fails, the failure is permanently attached to your name. Put it in a company name and the failure is within. Your image remains untarnished. Individuals do not realize the extent to which wealth management is reputation management. At some level, the two can hardly be differentiated.

We discuss it as though it is an option that rich people make, some brilliant thing they have found out. But in the real sense it is a reaction to a world that rewards conspicuous wealth. Unless the system turned ownership into a liability, people would not have to conceal it. The action is logical although the mechanism that creates it is not.

I think rich people are very interested in optimizing their taxes (that is, reducing the amount of taxes they pay). 🙋

Rich people got rich precisely because they know how to count money. Cutting expenses is a key skill for all wealthy people. And taxes are a social responsibility, so it's in everyone's best interest to minimize their taxes. However, this is disadvantageous for society as a whole. But rich people are cunning and smart, so they know how to find loopholes in the law and exploit them.

In my opinion, rich people aren't interested in reducing the market capitalization of their companies... Increasing a company's market capitalization is directly related to the growth of its stock price. Therefore, in my opinion, it's in the interests of company owners to have their company's market capitalization constantly growing.

At the same time, rich people want not only wealth but also power. To become successful manipulators operating in the shadows, they need anonymity and confidentiality.

By the way, I read that most of the world's wealth is anonymous.  It's owned by trust funds. The ultimate beneficiaries are unknown. I think this allows the very rich to engage in politics and pass laws. If they owned their wealth publicly, such actions would be difficult. These thoughts occurred to me as I was writing this post...💁
Tax is definitely the reason. If you do it under the company name, then the company has spent money, while making you richer, you did not "spent" money, you still own that home, or land or whatever, whereas you are no longer paying taxes because of your profit.

So let say you have a company, it made 200 million revenue, and had 100 million cost, that means 100 million profit, so you would have to pay taxes on that 100 million, but if you buy 10 houses worth 10 million each, now you have zero profit, and you pay no taxes, whereas you are still richer, and you still did make a profit. So "growth" is something they are contributing to the market, but it's actually nothing that is helping us at all, and only hurting the nation.

Just as DIMarxist said surely they might be doing that to beat tax, although there might be other reasons as to why the Rich don't like buying assets with thier name. And if you ask me I can't give an accurate answer to that question even though I agreed with what DIMarxist said, and that is because a Rich man have said it in my face before but I believe some might decide to do it for other reasons best known to them.

Generally, wealthy people are never keen to disclose their assets because they feel that if the information about their assets is disclosed, then they will have to pay taxes on that asset, and if the wealth increases, then there will be a matter of accountability to the government. On the other hand, those who acquire wealth quickly know that they did not acquire that wealth through legal means, which is why they try to hide their wealth.

People involved in corruption never purchase any asset in their own name so that they do not face any problems with the law. If the asset is purchased in the name of some other third party, then his asset is safe if that person does not cause any trouble. Keeping the asset tax-free and giving priority to one's own financial security, purchasing assets in the name of a third party is often seem to risk free.

Yes, you are right, I don't see any other reason, rich people do this to avoid legal problems, also they sometimes buy land in other people's names so that no one knows how much wealth they have. Because rich people have many enemies. And they don't want to reveal their wealth for this reason. Again, some people do this for their heirs so that they can easily understand their rights.

However, there are also rich people who give this wealth to do good deeds for people. The calculation of these is different for each person. That's why everyone takes such steps because of different thoughts

Several people have mentioned among others why the rich buy assets in someone else's name, the plausible reasons being avoiding high taxes and importantly privacy reasons where their name is not wanted by many people.

I think the rich would know the reason behind it and would not be able to explain the reason to the public... unlike me where buying assets in one's own name is feared to be a dispute that results in personal loss, now in my country there are many land mafias.

Some times, buying assets and using a different name is not just to avoid or reduce tax payable as you said, it makes it hard for it to be traced especially when they are using that different company to launder money. It's a smart move by them to not only grow their wealth, it also saves them the public scrutiny and attention like paying taxes or debt situations.
This is common with government officials who are fond of stealing funds, and they buy property in the names of relatives who don't bear the same names or even friends, so that it will be difficult to trace.

But there are some genuine investors who prefer to use names that are not theirs, and I think the reason for this is best known to them. I think, as an investor, it is kind of better not to tie everything to your name because anything can happen. I have come across some investors whose companies fold, and they have so much debt from the bank, and their property was seized by the bank.

Its a pretty common legal move.  Rich people set up trusts and shell companies to protect their money and pay less in taxes.  It is not really about privacy, at least not how most people think of it.  Rich folks hide their money so they can hold on to it.  You are hiding yours just to protect yourself.  Thats a totally different situation.

It's become a trend, although it has existed, the rich folks have a preference of purchasing assets with names other than theirs, they could use their companies, or even a third party brocker.

One would argue it as a way to reduce tax payable, or not to increase the market value of their holding companies.

What could be other reasons?
Some may be because the source of funds for that asset may be illegal, so they try every possible best to protect that their reputation by doing that. Some high income hackers who loot heavy sum off a DeFi platform may acquire physical asset on others name for their safety reasons against regulatory bodies.

Not all rich people that doesn't acquire multiple properties with his name or company name, the rich one that get afraid of purchasing assets with his name or company name, is the one that is into illegalities, and it doesn't want government to know his assets so that it will not be confiscated during investigations..

But anyone that it's business is legal and legit, it purchases assets with his name or the children's name, so many rich people who is into entrepreneurs, expand their businesses with their brand name.

I recall one of the wealthiest influencers recently having to face a divorce. Learning from that, everyone has their own reasons for doing so, primarily to avoid the risk of people exploiting the law to seize even a small portion of their wealth.

Money often has a greater allure than anything else, allowing people to ignore moral values.

Op. Seriously I would also prefere to buy an asset with other name, but not mine because of privacy, I knew one of the popular wealthy man in our area that used his name for all his asset either businesses and others. I learn a very great lesson from there which I later concluded that he made a very big mistakes of using his name, the taxes where so high and people's eyes will be on you,but instead, using different types of names that would take some people for some several Years before they get to know that it's your won, although some asset were not owed by one person, bit once your name is being used, all the pressures would be on you.

It's probably dirty money that they'll spend it on so that it won't be connected to their name. I think that most people with dirty money does this and they're not putting it into their bank accounts and instead, they're using it to buy properties and assets that will be someone else's name than them. It's easy for them to use either dummy names or relatives or far away friends and relatives for them to have those properties. In short, that's another way of laundering money.
