Many people say casinos make money because of the house edge, and sure that’s true, but I don’t think that’s the full story.
You know why they really win more, it’s because they understand human behavior. I’m pretty sure most of us can relate to that. The moment we lose control of our emotions, we start chasing losses, and that leads to gambling more than we were supposed to. That becomes extra money for them. So in a way, what really reduces their income is when players stay in control.
And another thing, those near misses, like an almost win, or even small winnings, can push people to gamble even more. Casinos understand how people feel. The system is designed with house edge to beat us in the long run, but there’s another side running at the same time, and that’s the psychological side of it, almost like marketing.
In my view, casinos are not just selling games, they are selling emotional traps wrapped in entertainment.
I know that it is exactly here that casinos are making money, near misses or greed and rage while losing or winning, in both cases the human behavior because of dopamine making us do these sort of chasing either way. Some casinos I find it they are responsible as one time when I lost 10 deposits in a row they told me enough for today, take some rest and it helped me at that time to not lose even more. This though only on few casinos, most do not care at all, they think that only the person is responsible for his deeds and only he takes responsibility for what he does, either of this thinking do not make the casinos in a bad light, both are normal acceptable behavior. In the end the people who lose the most are the people most vulnerable to their emotions and the ones who are the least vulnerable, they are the one to suffer less.

If casino understands human psychology but doesn't have a significant house edge they will not make a profit. Those near misses that propel gamblers to gamble more are all strategies by the casino designed to increase participation. So I would have to disagree with you because the main reason why casinos make money is due to the house edge. Emotions contributes increase participation but profit comes from the casino's advantage.

Emotions are one of the greatest part of human behaviour, if you can keep your emotions in check always, you will always have an edge in almost every works of live and truly, the casino does understands this and relay on it to build their house edge on the casino. If the emotions of the players are in check, chances are that the casino will not have their edge having good grip on the players, mostly when the players get emotional they make some irrational decision and just gambling at random to the advantage of the house. The emotional traps are real and once you fall for it, you will be trapped before you even realise it, you may be carried away by the entertainment that would come along with it too, as a gambler, here's a clue for you to try and take charge of your emotions as that will give you the advantage that will get you not to be so consumed by the house advantage.

That is correct, but the house edge is already built into the games we play. Every game has a different house edge, and even providers are different. But casinos do not stop there. They still spend on all the things we can already see, paying staff, advertising online, and giving attractive bonuses. That’s one of the main reasons why casinos keep growing. It’s not just the house edge alone, it’s the house edge plus marketing and everything behind it. Without that side of the business, survival is not even certain.

House edge is why casinos win. Theoretically you can profit from a casino and quit and than you will be the winner, but this never happens with the average gambler. Casinos know you will come back and than the house edge will take advantage over you and you will eventually become the looser from being a winner. This is sadly how it’s created. You can beat the casinos by taking some advantages but they will not let you do it for long.

Casinos are not forcing anyone to comeback, it's the players choice and they eventually see gambling as easy money so they keep coming here to make money while losing more. Games are designed to favour the casinos, let's say dice you got one chance while the house got 5 chance to make it but it's merely a theoritical value, if you can lucky you can keep ripping the casino with each and every bet just with 1/6 probability and that is why we say luck plays the major role here.

Then perhaps it's better to say psychological traps that take into account human behavioral habits. But who doesn't commit this sin these days? Almost every marketing department (of any company) abuses it. We now live in a world where the basics of human psychology are well known, and many exploit them to make money. Casinos, in this regard, are no worse and no better than others. Now a question for the OP: do you still continue to play despite knowing about "emotional traps" in casinos?

Though, even though casinos are very sharp on understanding human behavior and feelings in order to maximize their gains, in the end all comes down to the capacity of house edge to guarantee those gains for the casino. i would not work for them to implement all the "psychological traps" in order to keep people playing if they did not have the edge of the house for them to collect that money effectively. It would be useless for a casino to keep people playing, but the casinos was slowing but constantly loosing money to those gamblers. In conclusion, the edge of the house is the foundational stone for the gambling industry to function as we know it today.

I still believe in cases of people winning more than what they lost, but it would be a probabilistic oddity, rarer the more they bet. House edge is key, otherwise all the tactics mentioned to make users come back and keep playing wouldn't make sense because it would mean that casinos could eventually lose money. But casinos don't gamble, and the system is usually flawlessly designed so as not to bankrupt them in the event of an unexpected twist in randomness.

It's like a psychological warfare on those gamblers especially those near hits, damn it hit the nerves to play more considering it wires your brain that you're good at it but in reality it's just you speculating on it. House edge was more like a sauce but the real recipe you will probably take you come back are those things. Well, I think they're paying a lot to those marketers and wouldn't be surprised if they got to pay psyops.

Please understand the full context of the post. What stompix meant is the house edge is a guaranteed way for casino to make profit. And I agree it’s the highest contributing factor for casino profit because it’s guaranteed in every bet while casino rely on huge volume in their casino to make this huge profit to be generated. I do understand your logic since player usually play against casino bankroll and there’s some scenario that they will bust all their bankroll when they do greedy bet but remember that there’s also someone winning which casino use this profit to payout winners. Like for slot, the RTP is less than 100% which means most of the money wager on this game will return to player while casino will just get the house edge percentage as profit. It’s hard to calculate how much casino generated net profit from losing players minus winning players while house edge is always guaranteed so it’s safe to assume that house edge generates most of the profit because it’s already calculated unless casino release their total profit and total wager on each game to determine if they are earning more than the house edge.

Well, you are not wrong, but the house edge is the primary feature that makes the casino profitable. Every other thing is secondary.
I understand that casinos have a way of toiling with our emotions by offering bonuses and rakeback. Any promotion that tilts our mind to chase after something in gambling, but without the house edge, the casino wont be profitable. The casino has full control of the house edge, while gamblers have full control of their emotions if they want to.

That's the whole design of Casinos. Casinos capitalise on human behavior to bring in people and keep them gambling and keep them coming back, but in the end of the day, the casino's house edge is still the one that brings in the profit. The house edge is the biggest revenue for the casino but the casino will also benefit from other providers as this is the most popular game that many people play. We already know the casino place where many people burn money with greed, emotion, annoyance, addiction is in the casino place so it's not strange that some people think casinos are like traps but we as players often play too much.

@OP, yesterday there was a topic that inspired me to search for casinos major source of income and their others sources of income apart from players losses. The result I got gave a detailed explanation of how the casino make their money majorly through house edge on the different games they have on their casino and the house edge also differs among the many games they have in the casino. You can do the maths yourself based on house edge of casino games and you will understand that the casino does not necessarily need gamblers playing with emotions, all they need is millions of players playing every day.

I agree with you, the house edge is the biggest revenue for the casino. No matter how a person plays, that small advantage the casino has will always favor them in the long run. Casino doesn’t only gain from house edge alone, they still benefit from other popular games that people like playing regularly. The more people play, the more money they gain. Casino can only be a trap, when a person finds it difficult to control themselves. Casino doesn’t force anyone to stake, it’s greed, addiction and anger that pushes people to overplay. So for me, casino is a business, but discipline is the only way that players can protect themselves.

You have a point, although the house edge is one reason why the casino makes more money but that's not the only thing. Gambling is a psychological game and the developers use one thing against gamblers and that's "their greed". No matter how much a gambler wins there is always a high chance that they will keep on playing. As long as you gamble constantly you are definitely going to lose more.

Which is why, when you are playing in a casino, it feels like a roller coaster ride of emotions; it's playing with our emotions, and if we have no control over our emotions, we are bound to be exhausted and lose in the process. Exhaustion and confusion are the two results if we are looking to make money in a casino. It's different if we are playing for entertainment and playing within our allocation; we end up feeling fresh and good.

Yeah, if you check slot games, there's no such thing as a winning streak. Most of the time, after 1 big win, a losing streak will come. That means, the gambler just got there at the right time, where it will give an amount that is big. So, as much as possible, if we can withdraw the money, we do it. That way, we will feel the profits coming in, and maybe that will somehow help us calm down and be in control. We can always go back anytime we want but taking that stress out of losing so much is the important part.
