It's better one owns an asset generating system that meet all their needs. Workers do all the hardwork and the owners reap all the reward. So hardwork can just make you wealthy alone. You mentioned some assets that's generated wealth. In as much as that is correct, it won't work for all countries. One has to find out what works for their country. For example, my country. I agree is some of what you said and not agree in some. Let me point out the once I agree on first.
1. Your mental and physical labor is valid. One has to work hard and smart to actually become wealthy.
2. I agree on what you said about shifting from worker to owner to actually becoming wealthy.


This is what I don't agree on.
1. For me, I think manual and physical labor are actually the same thing. I stand to be corrected.
2. Capital is a big problem. You can't use one country and classify all the rest country as the same thing.  Where I am from, capital is indeed a big problem.

Hard work doesn’t guarantee wealth, this has been a major quote for long reason why it’s advisable to work smart also smart working still needs finance. One of the reason I don’t like private sectors basically they intend to stress workers and with a long time duration at work yet the pay that comes with working is either not worth it while other private sectors allow their staffs to find other means of survival along the line.
I can’t advise everyone to own a business or asset without a sufficient amount of money, this is the reason why many still depend on others before acquiring wealth although it takes longer time, the pressure that comes with hard work might end a person in poverty still if they don’t work smart.

In today's economic condition the older idea of working hard and getting Rich is breaking down. In past working hard on any reliable source and earning was a  granted way of having a comfortable life but in todays evolving situation a single set of labour is not enough to full fill all the needs. As you have stated that working more hours will bring more profit but the workers salary will stay nearly the same. No doubt hard work is the real fuel of success but other assets like having stocks, shares real estate or vehicles is giving boost in today's economy. For building long term wealth it is a good idea to transition one self from trading time for money to owning  another source of income. Success is achieved by adding value to yourself and how you can also add value to others.  How can you add value to yourself without working had? You are going to have less time to sleep and more time to work, hard work is not only by doing a very tough job that will consume all your energy and drain you. I do not know how many decades you've lived on this earth, neither do i know how many decades ago you are referring to here, but yes, hard work is an important ingredient to success. The question is, is it the only recipe to success? Nope it isn't. Of course you have to work hard, but you also have to take risks, be lucky, stay disciplined, save, invest, garner knowledge, build connections, etc, etc, in order to get rich and many times you still wouldn't.

The level of success depends on what we do and that includes the value we have. Hard work will lead us to success and I still believe this but it does not mean that all jobs can be categorized into this because in the end there must be more value from ourselves to support so that we can achieve success.

The OP only takes examples from manual laborers but does not pay attention to other workers who have much greater connections because the business people that are successful today of course they are also hard workers.
Then what is the difference here? You spoke well Op but me add to what you have said. Has said hard work alone won’t give riches again which I don’t agree no doubt. Currently the price of bag of food is more higher then our minimum wage. And alot of people are working for 12hrs everyday and are still broke.

But the true fact is that hard work it what keep you going to achieve the goal. Allot of us aren’t born with silver spoon but we work towards saving up little bye little in other for us to buy BTC or get something great doing so it a process.

I look at hard work and see that it has something to do with effort. You need to be ready with what you would be doing for yourself in the long run. That is true. Hard work, diligence and patience are needed to really attain things that you want in life. There are no short cuts in this life if you do really want to make good or at least alleviate your economic status. It is not that it is given to you unless, you were born with silver spoon. But the hard thing if you have been rich since birth is that once you suffer pain or losses, it would be very hard for you to get up because you are used to good life. Whereas, if you started at the bottom and you go up, once you go down again, it won't be a problem for you to rise up again as you've been there already and you know what to do in those challenging times. This is why it is better for an individual to go thru the hardships of life because he will be a stronger person as compared to the individual who haven't experienced any suffering in life.
