Scammers always set traps to collect money from ordinary users. As time goes on, their methods have also been upgraded, and they now try to deceive people in ways that are not easy to notice at first glance. I saw this matter on Twitter through a post made by CMC and you also highlighted it here to make everyone more aware, so thank you for that. Even though I am a CMC user, I have not received any such call yet.

Overall, I'm staying careful, I feel like something like this could happen to me since I use it regularly.

This is just a warning though to stay safe everyone.

and definitely by avoiding centralised platforms like CMC and giving any of your details even simply an email.

This is very common and no more new, but I wonder the reason people are using Coinmarketcap for their portfolio and register on the site. I use Coinmarketcap and Coingecko, but not for portfolio, and also not to set alarm for a price a coin should get to, before alarm. I prefer to use both without email.

I am trying to figure out the same, who is using CMC? are they heavily involved in various Altcoins that they
need to "Track" what they have? I dont need CMC to track my Bitcoin portfolio!

If you have to contact customer service in this sort of service where your details are compromised its definitely
a bad sign.

The number one red flag here is cold calling. No Crypto platform will call you just like that, neither will they ask you to provide them with sensitive information about your wallet. These are security consciousness everyone is supposed to have at the back their minds. Scammers will disguise as anything just to get information from their target victims. Be mindful where and who you share your information with and never act under pressure.

Its already a red flag if a potential scammer can "Call you"

Are we ever going to be able to solve the security problems in the cryptocurrency space? Whenever I read these type of news about crypto scammers and hackers is only points to major issue that is still in the crypto space which is the issue of security. And it is obvious because for scammers to identify and cold call crypto users is an example. The most vulnerable crypto users are those who lack technical knowledge about cryptocurrencies.

The first step is to keep things simple
! focus more on Bitcoin and less on Altcoins
! take full control of your funds
! treat your personal details as more valuable than Bitcoin itself

So they just released a public announcement in their social media that scammers and cyber criminals are impersonating their brand or company. Scammers are cold calling anyone. I haven't received any though, and most likely leak personal data of crypto enthusiast might have been used here.

This is just a warning though to stay safe everyone.
Coinmarketcap is a very big brand that has made it's name when it comes into the cryptocurrency space

I think that changed when Binance bought it in 2020!

Thank you for sharing this important information, this will keep us guided and our newbies as well because I believe many of us knows that most of these big crypto platforms, exchanges, and wallets can’t just call you, and we know that there are always impersonators who are always willing to scam innocent members of their money.

Let’s be careful and avoid answering calls from unknown numbers that will claim to be support from any platform, and also let’s avoid entertaining unknown people in our dms trying to help or claiming to be from some crypto platforms or so, they are scammers who are after your money, they are not here to help, rather they are there to get some sensitive information from you and use it against you.

This is no longer new; scammers are impersonating anything they could use to scam people, but in this coin market situation, who are really going to be their target? As I know CoinMarketCap to be more of a place to lose coins and tokens for tracking and some airdrops aside from project owners being a target, individuals are also being targeted. I'm not saying everyone should not be at alert, but I'm just wondering what convincing tactics they will be using.

The reality is that scammers will always come up with new ways and tactics to get hold of those unsuspecting to benefit from and the only security anyone or group of individuals can institute is to remain skeptical in the ecosystem as a best defense. No go loose guard fall prey because of greed.
I appreciate this warning though because to stay aware and constantly vigilant with these kinds of iny, is the best way to stop and counter  all these kinds of new schemes of scams from being effective.

So they just released a public announcement in their social media that scammers and cyber criminals are impersonating their brand or company. Scammers are cold calling anyone. I haven't received any though, and most likely leak personal data of crypto enthusiast might have been used here.

These scammers are probably targeting cryptocurrency developers who just created their cryptoprojects.  Since being listed on getting announced on coinmarketcap can give transaction to their project, scammers are targeting them for money or fees in return for the service like being announced on the landing page, or being listed as the upcoming project, or even announcing the support for the project.  After all this kind of offer is very beneficial for an emerging crypto project.  Sadly if the developer fall for it, they will just fall into their scam.

This is just a warning though to stay safe everyone.

Thanks for informing us about this kind of scam.

And  this is not the first time things like this are happening and just thatbi know one thing for sure when it is a scam you will definitely know because a lot if things is just going to sound very off because we coinmarket cap already and for the to come up with something different will just make it very clear for us to deal with and without any further falling for scams people just need to be more observant they need to pay more attention to things.

And people are always carried away that is why they don't even bother any more, people want to always make use of any form of opportunities but they should learn to channel that energy into something better than looking for cheap opportunities and another set of people are the greedy onces who feel they are the smart onces until they fall victim like I said before paying attention will help everyone a lot.
